Ok so DH finally caved in after 7 years and bought me my dream Christmas present, a kitten. He's delightful and I love him. This means that I won't have anything at all to open on Christmas morning as the present from the DC and any others from relatives will be Boxing Day. This makes me feel a bit sad and grumpy. WIBU to expect a tiny pressie on the day? Just a mug or a £5 sweet bracelet or similar.

I didn't receive a single present at Christmas (or birthdays, etc) for decades (and I'm not complaining, it's just how things are). One friend, realising (not because I'd mentioned it but because I have no (adult) family or DP and she put two and two together), has recently, very thoughtfully and kindly started giving me a gift at Christmas. I treasure that one gift! It is the only gift I will receive throughout the year. My children are so happy to see I have something to open too.

I'm not saying YABU, as such but I do feel you're fortunate :)

YOU HAVE A KITTEN

YANBU though, a little something to open would be nice. Even if it's kitten treats.

Just to add the kitten / holiday was many years ago. Now I'm lucky if I get a card. The kitten is also now a 7 year old (spoilt) cat.

Awwww. To cute.

OH got me well us a kitten for my birthday many years ago. We didn't get her until a month after the actual day though so I had nothing in the actual day. We were in Kefalonia for my actual birthday so I guess I can't complain. .. and I didn't. I was spoiled rotten that year

Get DH to put a bow on the kitten for Christmas morning.

I know, but you have a kitten. Surely that's better than a boring dressing gown or whatever. Your kitten will snuggle around your neck and you will feel happy Smile

DH and DS will both have presents to open so we won't be depriving him of the joy of wrapping paper destruction Smile

DH and DS can play with DS's scalextrix and I will cook lunch whilst quietly sulking in the kitchen and downing a bottle of prose co

hmmm, have you any idea of the chaos that will ensue if you open presents with a kitten in the house? You will still be finding bits of shredded wrapping paper in unexpected places for years afterwards.

Be thankful for the peace and quiet and that you will not be facing a huge repair bill for your vacuum cleaner..... Grin

You never know what he might have planned, so don't count him out yet. I will admit I am Envy of your kitten though. I might feel better if I saw a picture though

YANBU. DP and I went on holiday instead of doing presents last year and we didn't see family until the 27th so I had nothing at all to open on Christmas Day and it was SHIT.

We've all made sure to exchange gifts before the day this year so I won't have a face like a smacked arse again Grin
