To ask how much you've spent on school shoes this year?

I took DDs aged 10 and 6 for new shoes yesterday and it cost me EIGHTY TWO POUNDS.

DD1s were 42 and DD2s were 40! Since when did little kids' shoes cost 40 quid!?

I remember them being much less last year! Something like 28-35 pounds...am I imagining it or have shoes gone up a LOT!?

DS £20 black leather reeboks (more shoe than trainer, but more practical than actual shoes! Sports Direct for my boys shoes!)

Also indoor shoes came in at £12 for 2 pairs.

And they spend more time in the indoor cheap shoes than the outdoor expensive shoes!!

£82 all in then faints for shoes.

However I have brought from m&s shoezone and others and not found them any better than Clark's or any worse so what ever suits at the time is my motto

£0 on ds as he has a friend with same width size and we get his hand downs. They are always in OK condition and Clark's.

Ds1 school shoes £65 and plimsolls
Ds2 school shoes £39 and plimsolls ... So about £120. This will last till about February when they will need bigger sizes.

Both mine have long, narrow feet so I've always felt Clarks a necessity to get a decent fit but the quality has gone massively downhill (IMHO). Clarks have stated more than once that their shoes are designed to last 3 months and I've had enough of shelling out for sub standard shoes. I've just discovered that Tesco does a narrow fit school shoe and it fits better than any of the Clarks styles that Brantano had in stock. Happy! What I'm going to do about DS who is 8 years old and measures adult size 7 is another question!

I bought them all in the John Lewis sale after Christmas. They were between £10 and £14 a pair, I bought a few sizes per child and they have lasted all year. So maybe about £100 (3 children).

£15 from Tesco for DS. His feet grow at a ridiculous rate so have to replace them every term anyway, he is already in adult size one at the age of 6.

18 months ago I spent £65 on a pair of doc Martin shoes for dd and they are still going strong and luckily for us her feet have not grown she is size 5. When these shoes start looking ropey I am going to buy another pair as they have lasted so well

Ds is 11, just started secondary school, he's in an adult size 10!!
His kickers cost £65.

Dd is 3, is at a preschool with no uniform and is currently between a size 8-9 so have been buying her new shoes as and when.
I hate Clarks shoes on her, she had them as a baby, mostly buy from next, George etc but if she had it her way she would wear peppa pig wellies every day:)
Shoes can be very expensive but I do look after ours, ds shoes are polished every night for school and I've found that wellies and jelly shoes do well in the bath after dd has got out.

I stupidly brought my daughters shoes from M & S after buying them from Clarkes since she started walking. The cost £24. After a few days her feet were so sore I had to go to Clarkes for a decent pair. There were a few parents in there swapping shoes as they they had made their kids feet sore, but the staff swapped them with no problems. The women in M & S said my daughter should just get on with it! Also had to buy trainers for PE. So wasted £24 on a crappy pair of shoes but Ive learnt my lesson.

Having had painful foot surgery myself and being likely to need more I try to save money by buying the kids second hand clothes but always get their feet measured and get good shoes. I would spend £40 on my shoes so think it's okay to spend that on theirs, it's just unfortunate mine last years but their feet grow! Its just so important that growing feet have good shoes that fit well as the bones can so easily go wonky like mine - especially if they have feet genetically most disposed to go a bit wrong like people in my family seem to :(

Ds1, 14 (size 10!!) Cost me £65. The last pair he had lasted ages!
Ds2, 11 (size 7!!!~the same size as me!!) didnt need new shoes as he still fits the shoes we bought for the year 6 graduation ball They cost £45.

DS 2 aged 8 1/2 ......£18 from a Clarks outlet. Exactly the same shoes that are in main shops for £30+.

His feet are small 12.5 and slow growing and so far he has only had one pair a year of school shoes

No4 son's cost me £36, and no3 son's cost me £12.
I feel a bit guilty because no4 got Clarks, and no3 didn't, but no4 son destroys shoes, cheapo ones literally last him a fortnight at most, whereas the Clarks ones will last until he grows out of them. Cheaper ones are just false economy for him. No3 son somehow managed to not even put a scuff or a teeny bit of dirt on his shoes, it is amazing and I have no idea just how he does it, but they will be pristine until at least Christmas.
DD has the pair we had to buy her in the last week of term in July so she can wear them until next month's pay day and then she will get Clarks too - she mangles her shoes just like no4 son.
Out of 5 DCs, I have had one who keeps shoes nice, one who wears them "medium time" so to speak, and 3 who trash anything less than the expensive "best" Clarks/Hush Puppies ones within hours
Shoes are by far the most expensive part of their clothing/upkeep.

Crazy I would love to buy my DDs in Asda but the one time I did, DD2's were bald at the front within a week. :( She kicked all the leathery coating off and they were grey.

£32 on school shoes - that's for both of them. From Shoe Zone. They're mock Vans - black canvas with black laces, completely within school regulations. They have two pairs each. DD1 had them for her last term at school and at the end of the term they were immaculate. Her previous two expensive pairs were destroyed within a term - Clarks take people for mugs.

PE schools a bit more, but not too much as no regulations on what colour they can be, thank goodness!

About that much for one pair, OP. My boys do a lot of walking in a day, so want good, leather shoes, and they can no longer buy "school shoes" - DS1 ( 15) is size 11 and DS2 (13) is size 10. Whereas there is no problem buying school shoes for DD (17) who is size 6 and doesn't actually need school shoes.

Why are girls' school shoes sold in "adult" sizes, but boys' not?

As for the price of "adult" size football boots . . .
