AIBU?

AIBU to not pick up my dogs poo?

Went for a walk today with the dog. He's not been out for a couple of days other than in the garden. He's been unwell and had the runs.

This morning he seemed to be feeling a bit better and was hanging about the front door so I decided to chance it. Anyway long story short. Round our local "walk route" and heading back to the house. He had an incident. There was no way I could have physically picked it up (sorry tmi) even though I do carry bags.

So I thought the best thing I could do was head home (about 6 houses away) grab a bucket and sluice it away. I did this and was heading back out with said bucket when a woman from down the road came up my drive ranting and raving that I should have picked it up. Or at least made an attempt to. I tried to explain the situation but she was having none of it. She has now flounced off, harping on about reporting me to the council.

Am I going to get a fine?!?

Not at all. As I've said in my previous post. Another poster was right, I shouldn't have taken him out if he was still ill... But I didn't know he was!

As for taking a strop. That's more likely to be you and Evalyn. I'm not an irresponsible dog owner either.

Read my posts! I also said I "chanced it" because he was acting like he was better and he'd been twice, both of which I could pick up.

clearly there was still an element of "chance" - or you wouldn't have said "chanced it".

And TA DAH - there was indeed an element of chance as he did a big runny poo.

Mrs some will always disagree just ignore and they will go away. You took your dog out he had diarrhoea you cleaned it up. Your neighbour over reacted. Smile

I'm really surprised some posters are saying not to take a dog out who has diarrhoea. Dogs can have persistent non-infective diarrhoea, just like toddlers. It's not fair to lock them up because of it.

I also doubt the diarrhoea is of any risk to other dogs. I had a dog eat my dd's diarrhoea when she had a buh once and he dog was fine (long story)

My retriever's been a changed dog since he started Simpsons salmon and potato. Runs about 40/month so not cheap but he's a changed dog.

i doubt you would be happy if your neighbours started crapping on your path/garden and didn't clean it up
What a stupid post or did you mean the neighbours dog?
I wouldn't be happy if my neighbour started crapping in my garden wether he cleaned it up or not!
And you are entitled to an opinion but do you have to be so rude about it, are you that horrible in real life cos if you are I'm surprised your neighbours don't crap in your garden. (Just my opinion)

No need for the hysterics - no one is saying that.

Hysterics? Did you read evalyn's post immediately following mine? And you think mine was the hysterical one? Hmm

To anyone wanting dog dietary advice, get thee over to The Doghouse away from the rabid anti-dog lobby here in AIBU, they'll only be happy when the filthy dogs are eradicated so they can have their pristine pavements and ask about raw food.
My dog has never been fitter and healthier since I stopped feeding him rubbish commercial dog food (5 different dry foods/3 different wet foods, no improvement, some chicken wings and tripe plus any leftovers, all sorted)

Lifesalemon: "What a stupid post or did you mean the neighbours dog?"

-- Not a stupid post. You just miss the point completely. (Most dog owners seem to, I'm never sure why.)

You'd be disgusted if your neighbours did it. But you expect us to be tolerant of your dog doing it. That is, you expect us to treat your dog better than your neighbours in this respect.

Do you get the point yet, or is it still sailing by above your head?

Likewise, fluffymouse: "Dogs can have persistent non-infective diarrhoea, just like toddlers."

-- Yes, indeed. But unlike with toddlers, some of you who choose to look after dogs allow those dogs to void their diarrhoea in public places. Urgh. Horrible. Disgusting. Unreasonable. (Dog owners, not dogs.)

Those of us who look after toddlers - small people - put them in nappies so's not to inflict their shit on the public at large. Imagine the uproar if I allowed a toddler to do what the OP did with her dirty smelly beast dog! (Fetch a bucket? Huh? That makes it OK?! Wtf?)

Why oh why do some dog owners think we should all treat their beasts better than we treat our children?

Blah blah blah we hate dogs.
Dog owners should be burnt at the steak.
My children are more important.
One bad dog owners actions reflect on every dog owner.

Change the record you two it has been said before.

What's wrong no decent bun fights in AIBU for you to get your teeth in to so you pick on a thread about dog diarrhoea, must be a slow night.

zee step away from the bakers. It is just about the worst thing you can feed - full of fillers, additives and crap from the slaughterhouse floor. If you move onto a decent dried food you will end up feeding less so cost probably evens out. You will probably also save yourself plenty on future vet bills. Agree with the PP that said that vets are not usually great at advice on food; neither are pet shops so do research yourself to choose a good food.

Think of your dog's diet like you would your own - feed well and they will be healthier for longer. The only difference is that dogs really don't need variety; many are happy on the same food for life (their bowels will thank you) and you can ring the changes with quality treats and the odd tidbit from the butcher.

evalyn I remember you and your bonkers aggressive ranting from other dog crap threads. Lookie here, we do not put children in nappies to stop their poo from offending other people, we do it for the comfort of the child. It's also far more convenient for their caregivers to change a nappy rather than a child's entire bottom half of clothes when they 'go'. Your point is ridiculous.

I do think OP should probably not have 'chanced it' though. Sorry!

Urgh. I remember the first time this happened to my dog - no warning signs, he didn't seem ill, we were trotting up to the park for his second walk of the day and, just as we walked past a large group of firemen and bystanders who had just put out a fire in someone's car bonnet, he crouched down and did a 100% liquid shit. It was VILE. I had no idea what to do. I tried picking it up with my bag (RETCH) until one of the firemen took pity on me and helped me blast it away with his high pressure hose. Grin

Since then I just carry a bottle of water with some liquid detergent in it when he's dodgy (he mostly poos in flowerbeds in the park I spend half my life with scratches from climbing in to retrieve them but we live in a small house in central London - keeping a dog inside for days on end is not an option so I have to risk the chance he'll pop en route to the park).

A little bit of hysteria on this thread. We are v much talking about exceptions to rules. I have also vomited in the street (10 weeks pregnant and beyond nauseous), as has my child don't ask. It happens, you clean it as best you can and you move on - this is why street cleaners still exist, life is not perfect.
