Say "Oh I was dead good today. I never had any chocolate/cakes/crisps ect. What do they mean they were"good'. Going shopping for a poor housebound old lady/man. Giving up your time for a good cause. Donating to charity Iw being " good', no saying 'no to chocolate ect.

I'm glad this isn't a huge topic of conversation at work. I am eating more sensibly now and am slowly getting slimmer but I don't talk about it at all. I have a MN thread for that :o

ballinacup · 27/06/2014 12:32

So on MN, we don't like fat people because they're terribly selfish and clogging up the NHS as quickly as they clog up their arteries.

We don't like people who are trying hard not to be fat any more and use an innocent turn of phrase to describe the pride they're feeling in moving away from their old eating habits.

And we don't like thin people because they're smug and annoying.

Soooo, who DO we like, exactly?

DoctorHfuhruhurr · 27/06/2014 12:40

ballinacup You'll probably find that it's different people who dislike different things for different reasons. 'MN' doesn't dislike anyone.

Also it's not an innocent turn of phrase, it's part of a disordered relationship with food that is probably in part cause of the weight problem in the first place.

MrsMcColl · 27/06/2014 13:24

YANBU. Drives me nuts when grown women describe themselves as 'naughty' when they eat or drink something they clearly want. Eat it or don't eat it, but don't go on about it. Love the cake-removal scenario, am going to try that with SIL next time she witters about naughtiness.

MyFairyKing · 27/06/2014 13:31

This thread has made me really hungry and I have fuck all in the house till the Tesco delivery arrives. Sad

DoJo · 27/06/2014 13:32

So what are we allowed to feel good about?

IrianofWay · 27/06/2014 15:18

" it's part of a disordered relationship with food that is probably in part cause of the weight problem in the first place"

Yep.

DoJo · 27/06/2014 15:36

I don't think I necessarily agree that you can diagnose someone based on a semantic short-cut, but if it is true, then surely it is appropriate to feel sympathy for someone rather than judging them for their choice of language. Do you think people choose to have a disordered relationship with food? Is it not within those who don't to show a little grace and compassion to those who do rather than peering down from their high horses and telling them that they just need a bit of will power? I'd bet my bottom dollar that living with disordered eating 24/7 is harder than occasionally having to listen to someone agonise out loud over whether to have a snack or not.

Biscuit

Damn I was trying to be good today as well.

Mrsjayy · 27/06/2014 15:44

It annoys me its just food and branding food naughty good is negative I could go on and on about this but I willonly rant

squoosh · 27/06/2014 16:01

We had some buns at a work meeting this week. Someone arranged them on the plate so the cherry buns looked like boobs and the eclairs looked a bit penis like. I think that was possibly 'naughty' food.

Mrsjayy · 27/06/2014 16:26

Yes cherry buns do look a bit naughty snigger

Mrsjayy · 27/06/2014 16:32

We used to have women where I worked they ate little boxes of leaves and seeds the cook made roast potatoes they ummed and ahhed so much about how good they looked and how naughty it was I said fgs it is a tattie do you want it or not oh you do here

angelos02 · 27/06/2014 16:34

YANBU. Talking about what you eat is dull as fuck. I've dropped a dress size In a month just by cutting out bread. I still have plenty of wine and a couple of takeaways a week. Most 'health' advice you read is rubbish.

UsedtobeFeckless · 27/06/2014 16:39

Gah, Moebus loop ... People who bore on about their diets and people who bore on about other people boring on about their diets ...

You're all being unreasonable!

Moid1 · 27/06/2014 16:40

I am on a vegan diet (with fish) for health reasons. I hate having to mention it, as feel it is a bit stupid. Going out for meals is no fun, I always end up with a bit if badly cooked salmon. Veg meals always include cheese.

IrianofWay · 27/06/2014 16:42

Talking of being 'naughty', years ago I offered a colleague a cup of coffee. He had already had one that morning so his response was 'Ooh you are naughty' Confused I wondered for a while if he had misheard 'coffee' for 'blow job' or 'shag'........

I love the irony of this comment!

JapaneseMargaret · 27/06/2014 17:14

LOL, was just thinking that. Grin

fuzzpig · 27/06/2014 18:01

This is naughty food, surely.
