AIBU?

To put my baby in room on her own at 6 months and 1 day old?

To be honest it's not even for whole nights sleep as we are in a 1 bed flat so cot is in our room but we have been following guidelines that all sleeps be in same room/place as me until 6 months old.
I'm not sure what will change from 5 months and 30 days old to 6 months and 1 day but will it be ok to have her naps and first part of night sleep in t

DS1 (now 9) was in his own room for naps and at the beginning of the night - in a crib on wheels which we used to then wheel into our room when we went to bed for the night. About 6 weeks old went to bed one night & woke up in the morning looked for DS who was meant to be right there beside me and he wasn't - major 'where's my baby gone?!!' moment - turns out DH had 'forgotten' to bring him in. Stayed in his own room after that with the baby monitor on full volume right by my ear! Sure your DD will be fine in her own room now!

My children all well past this age so not up to date on the current guidelines but just wondering if there's any difference in having the baby in a cot/basket next to your own bed (which I never did) or having a parent sleep in a spare bed in the child's nursery (which I did but can't remember for how long)

Are they both considered the same thing?

Were the guidelines different in 1985 when DS was born? He slept in his own room from Day One.

Mine were both born in the 80's and yes the guidelines were different. In fact there were very few guidelines to follow - the main one being to put them on their fronts to sleep. [shocked]

Our first child went into their own room at about 2 weeks and the second from birth.

Yep do what suits you op.

My older ones were in cots in own rooms at 2 months/when grew out if Moses baskets 1989/1991.

Younger ones were 3/4months 1999/2000.

To be fair I never heard of deliberate co sleeping until I went in mumsnet. I just thought it was the pain if having small children that they crept into your bed at 3 in the morning.

I still think it's odd that people set out to co sleep and not put their children into a bed but each to their own and if it suits then great.

Do whatever you are comfortable doing with your baby.
I've had charges that were in their own room from day 2, and others that were still with mum at 18 months.

Completely against the guidelines but my DS went into his own room at 2 weeks old because he was wide awake from 2-5am every morning and such a noisy sleeper, no-one was getting any sleep. But very small house and he was on the other side of the wall to our bed. Still didn't sleep through till 2 1/2.

They are guidelines not rules - nothing is going to change between 5 months and 30 days and 6 months but you need to do what you're comfortable with.

This is definitely fine, we get my youngest in with us until she was 10 months and it made it so much harder on me to move her (she didn't care!!!). It was only because I was dreading putting her in with my dd1 in case they disturbed each other. My others were in with us until 6 months though and I felt perfectly confident moving them then.

Nothing changes to your baby - the risk of SIDS drops at 6 months hence own room

I think the theory is that your breathing regulates the baby at night. Day naps - you being around might mean they're not in too deep a sleep. Same for night too.

I slept worse when sharing but that's because my senses were primed to monitor them. I had a few occasions where I woke up to find baby DS had stopped breathing and I had to really prod him to start again Shock (he had silent reflux which was the cause)

DD went into her own room at bang on 6 months. At 5 months I couldn't imagine her not being in with us, at 6 months I couldn't wait to be shot of her Grin, she was a dreadfully noisy sleeper! All got more sleep after that (she'd self night-weaned by that point, but I never fed her in bed anyway as I found it dreadfully uncomfortable).

Dd was 5 months. Worked a charm for us all. Mind you I still remember the first upstairs nap while I sat downstairs looking at the space the Moses basket would sit

DS went in his own room at 4 months. He was a really light sleeper and just turning over or coughing would wake him up! He slept amazingly once he was in his own room.

Oh, and I'm still bf my two year old so it had no impact on breastfeeding! I wouldn't have wanted to have to get up in the night when they were still feeding during the night though.

Gosh, do you mean just for naps, and until you go to bed at night? I kept my children in our room for over a year, but they napped in the room with a monitor during the day, and went to bed before us from a couple of months old. Never occured to me to do anything else, and compared to most people I know I'm quite cautious about these things!

My Ds was placed in a cot in his own room at 4 months.

We had just moved homes so thought we may aswell strt with an ongoing routine.

He's now 5mo and sleeps from 10pm-6am

My first went into his own room at six months, my second is now 14 weeks, and went into his own room at three weeks. He sleeps 10/12 hours at night, and has done since 9 weeks. We have the monitor on full blast at night.

I bf my first until he was 19 months, and plan to do the same with DS2, so not sleeping in my bedroom at night, in my experience, doesn't have to impact long-term breastfeeding.

yanbu

my eldest went into his own room at 4 months and we both slept better for it. DS2 is 6mo and 1 day and has been in his own room for a couple of weeks now, he still doesn't sleep though.

We'll be moving ds around then because dh's snoring is starting to disturb him! He already goes to bed at half 7ish upstairs then we go to bed in the same room later. We don't have a monitor either although I sometimes worry bout that.

Our dd went into her own room when she was 4 months, she sleeps really well and always has done. She likes her bed :)

I'm the opposite end from most then! Mine were in with me until about 8/9/10 months. Largely because they were still bfed overnight and I couldn't be arsed getting out of bed to do it! Anything for a lazy life.
Nothing changes from 5 months and 30 days to 6 months old of course, it's just a guideline much like the weaning one. Keep them in as long as is right for you.

Bike

I see your 9 weeks and raise you 2 days.

That was in the olden days though.

We had DS in our room till 6 months but for a couple of weeks before that he was waking at 5 and having a feed and then we put him in his own room for about 5 minutes an hour or two while we argued about whose turn it was to get up.

Before that we used ear plugs, which some people seemed to think was evil, as he was also a really noisy sleeper.

Moved dd2 last weekend at five months. I think its just a convenient milestone for them to choose, but for us she was getting too big for her crib.
