My hair is technically pillar box red, but I like to call it Little Mermaid red :)

And sorry to clarify, I meant the very white blonde, the sort you need to have to bleach to get it to! BUT at the same time, i don't go along the road thinking how ridiculous they look. They obviously chose it because they felt it suited them/it's how they wanted it so fair play to them!

MrsJoe love that hair! It's a similar colour to a friend of mine (who has a mohican), but similar in style to that worn by a bellydancing friend.

Not a fan of the trend to dye hair one colour underneath and another on top but can see why people do it, and one of my friends has recently done this with brown/turquoise. She wears it down at work (brown) and up for out and about (turquoise). I'm getting serious colour envy!

MrsJoe...just had a look at your pic and the first thing I noticed is what gorgeous green eyes you have !

shrug. Surely candy-coloured hair is "zany, trying too hard, Look At Me!" at any age. Why single out older women?

FWIW, it doesn't bother me, and I don't have candy-coloured hair. But isn't the point of doing a silly colour the same, at any age? It rarely flatters anyone, it's just to do something different.

"And the class issue creeping in - the 'scum' on Jeremy Kyle have pink hair "

Yes, I noticed that too. Thing is though, I get older I find I increasingly can't be arsed to engage with the sort of person who gets their rocks off sneering at people on car-crash telly. What's the point? If that's their idea of entertainment they've got bigger problems than other people's hair.

Never mind candy colours. It's the ones who look like a badger! You know, dyed blonde at the roots and black at the ends. WTF is that all about Confused

I love pillar box red hair. Have always wanted it but would look shit on me because of my skin tone. If I were 10 years younger and had either ivory or dark skin (as opposed to mottled English) I would do it like a shot. Ditto candy pink. Can look fab if its maintained. Burgundy looks terrible on almost everyone though IMHO and also just so eighties... Can't get rid of the association with those awful Duranie flicks.

So long as the pink/purple/whatever colour haired person is happy, what's it to you. YABU and extremely judgemental.

Bright crazy hair is more noticeable. Therefore it's an easy target for pissed-off people to hang their annoyances on.

I hate all the judgements going on about women on this thread - a woman has pink hair so of course she must be attention-seeking/hate her life/be desperately hanging on to the vestiges of youth.

Knee jerk crap. It could easily be said that those who don't dye their hair crazy colours are repressed, desperate to toe the line, obsessed with convention. Not true either.

And the class issue creeping in - the 'scum' on Jeremy Kyle have pink hair - polished London mummies have swooshy natural hair and isn't it lovely! Hmm

I have dyed hair, except its dyed as close to my natural colour as possible, to cover the grey situation Grin But I love seeing brightly-coloured hair around because it's pretty and makes a change. British people tend to be an army of grey/black/navy-wearers so any foray into colour is welcome as far as I'm concerned!

And Scarlet - you look ace.

Is the consensus that Directions is the one to pick for bright colours? I''ve been fancying pink hair for ages so got DD1 to ask a friend at college and thats what she recommended. DD2 wants blue dip dyed ends -do I bleach it first and then dye blue?

ScarlettLady, I just love your hair. The wedding one is amazing.

I don't care how old I am , I just like it. I don't have any issues I'm afraid. I just don't see why getting old means getting boring.

I can't believe the significance some people attach to the colour of the dead cells growing out of other people's heads. Hmm
My hair is brown right now, but after reading this thread I am inspired to hit the dye again, hard. Grin

Aw thanks IcedGems. It was the most budget wedding of all time, but it was a lovely day.

Talking of Iced Gems though, I was thinking about those the other day...can you still get them? I bite the tops off too Blush

Bright hair looks amazing. Why the hell should any person not dye their hair because other people don't like it.
Scarlets wedding photo is truly beautiful, she and her husband look so happy. A brown shoulder length bob wouldn't just is not for her!

Perhaps the OP would like to draw us up a list of acceptable hair colours, cuts, clothing, jewellery and other adornment, just so we all know how we should look.

It's such a silly thing to say though. How many blondes out there have dyed their hair for the attention? Oh but that's 'normal'. I find most blonde colours so far from 'natural' its as silly as saying pink or blue hair is unnatural. Well, yes. It all is!

Btw, my boring hair and boden comment was tongue in cheek, I really don't care what anyone else wears Smile. I'm still amused though Grin

I think pink hair looks nice. I think blonde hair looks nice also...

Sometimes people do things because they just really like it. Maybe people who dye their hair neon green are looking for attention, but so what, it's not the worst thing in the world. I'd rather someone sought attention through having unusual hair than preaching hate or similar.

cantspel
FrenchRuby but to get the bright reds, purples etc you need to bleach your natural colour out first.

Unless, like me, your hair is white. Grin

I have never had my hair look anything other than good, it has never broken off, and I've been colouring it for 30 years.

I started going grey very, very early (genetic) and I didn't want to be grey. Simple as that!

I'd like to add that I really don't care if people wear boden... It was just a retort following a few comments aimed my way. Can't stand that look myself but I will not make judgements about a person's character based on if they wear it. I also don't think people with normal coloured hair are boring. I'm the only crazy haired one in my group of friends.
