To warn you all about the hazards of shopping at Very.co.uk

You know when you make one (inadvertent) mistake and you pay for it every day for a decade afterwards...

I ordered a dress from Very in October. I arranged for it to get delivered using the Click + Collect facility (where the courier takes it to a designated C+C shop and you pick it up when convenient) Basically, I got really bad gastroenteritis when it was delivered and I was stuck in for two weeks and never collected the dress. C+C sent me an email to say it had been returned to Very, as I hadn't been able to collect it. Thought no more of it.

Then Very sent a statement asking for the payment for this dress. DH rang them and explained that I hadn't collected it. They said they would try and trace it and not to worry. So we didn't pay any money. Then we started getting phonecalls from their payments department demanding money or else they would charge us for late payment Confused DH said that that wasn't going to happen and that thet were going to be sensible and speak to the department chasing the missing parcel...

A few weeks to now, they have rang more times (we have just ignored the phone tbh, they are morons) We have been emailing their "customer services" department regularly to ask on the status of this. Yesterday they emailed back to say they had found the parcel and the £25 would be credited to our account.

So just logged into my account and they HAVE refunded the £35 but there is £25 (the late charges!) still waiting to be paid. They're having a laugh, right?

So I just wanted to warn you that they are an arse of a company and honestly, they're overpriced, terrible at customer service, staffed by script-reading robots and they try and shaft money out of you for their errors.

If you value your sanity, you will want to avoid.

Angry

I haven't read the whole thread, but the problem may be with Collect Plus, who are linked to Yodel courier service.

That outfit is terrible. I understand that companies like Very use them because they are cheap, but because Yodel / Collect + underquoted to win contracts the couriers don't have enough time to make deliveries. I've had lots of problems with parcels being dumped on the street, and a drop off at Collect + for a return that was never received by the seller (I ended up with no item and no money). I would avoid any purchasing from companies that use this courier.

I have ordered from Very a couple of times and found them fine (although they did continue to bombard me with mailshots for a while).

Littlewoods have taken over lots of other catalogues also the woolworths website. Littlewoods are increasingly becoming very cunning. I have had letters saying I hadn't ordered for a while here's £30 off a £60 order oh but if you don't use your rewards by such a date you will lose them!!

Also you don't earn rewards on sale items also if you have a sale item on your account any other items you add you will not earn rewards for until that sale item has been paid off.

Poosnu I had a delivery today from Carphone Warehouse and it was a Yodel driver that came to the door, there was another courier there delivering something else and they were talking on my doorstep about how these companies using Yodel and such ended up on Watchdog for it? They both seemed pretty pissed off about it and were talking about something to do with delivery times.

After I started asking him about it he also said that a couple of days earlier he even delivered a Next parcel.

I swear to God I am going to have a Falling Down moment.Am currently on the phone to Very Shit and they won't engage with us because apparently, DH's D.O.B is wrong on their screen. They now want me to scan in DH's passport/birth certificate for proof of date of birth.

Am speaking to Kevin, the thickest customer servics person in the universe. I swear if he was in front of me I would kill him Angry

When I was trying to get this resolved on the 'phone 3 weeks ago, the phone monkey wouldn't speak to me because "urrrrr ur not dur account holder" despite DH telling them 10 minutes earlier that I would be ringing them back with a tracking number. When I asked why he couldn't speak to me, he spouted some guff about data protection.

That guff would be the law then, yeah? Hmm

Good guidance here from the ICO about releasing information. I would contend that in the case that the OP mentions, where her dh had said that should be ringing back with the relevant tracking number, that that situation was covered by "Where an organisation is satisfied that as someone asking for information about another person?s account is authorised to access it, the Act does not prevent this."

So it's not a case of the Law not allowing it. It's a jobsworth not allowing it.

I haven't read the whole thread and I know this is a little off-topic, but I had a different problem with this company. They bombarded me with 'invites' to order their stuff, all of which I binned - I didn't even actually open any letters after the first couple. A few months later my DP saw one of the letters I'd ripped in half and stuffed in the bin, and it was a final demand for outstanding payments owed. Some bastard had opened an account in my name and ordered shed-loads of stuff.

I take responsibility for not shredding my mail (shredder duly purchased) and I know it wasn't Very's fault that some pikey thief went through my bin - but it made absolutely no checks when allowing the order on credit and to top it off, didn't even deliver to the account address (mine), but some random collection point. No ID requested, naturally.

To be fair to Very they did cancel the account when I complained but it was a hassle getting my credit file updated.

Anyway, just thought I'd share!

HKat, I think that Very are lax when it comes to security when opening an account! We have found this out.

I have just written a tome of an email to Shop Direct's Chief Executive. Next stop is getting a train up to Very's Head Office in Bootle, with a sawn off shotgun in my bag...

HKat - fortunately I always open such letters, so that I can put some into the recycling and the bits with names on it into the shredder. So I picked the fraud on dh very quickly. But Very's security systems must be VERY lax as they were able to open an account in dh's name and immediately send all deliveries 300 miles away Hmm
