AIBU?

AIBU to want a thank you from trick or treaters?

I've just had a load of trick or treaters at my door, all dressed up and I'd guess in age from about 6 to 13.

I gave them all some Cadbury Roses, but was a bit miffed not one of them said thank you, although the littlest one did say Happy Halloween at the end.

Is this normal, do manners go out of the window when you're a witch / one of the undead etc? Should I just be happy not to get egged?

What do you think?

We've had loads, it's been lovely. I always compliment then in their costumes and they've all said thank you for the sweets. It's such a friendly holiday, I don't understand why anyone would get sniffy about a thank you from children who are having a blast and probably on a complete sugar high anyway!!

Grin we've had littlies and some 6ft zombies with gruff voices breaking into angelic grins when a bucket of sweets is thrust their way

It's really nice. You can forget that they're kids too. I've really seen the children in the local teens tonight, iywsim.

They've just had so much fun.

Hecate I am a bit Envy.

(Whilst being aware that I'm probably viewing this all through rose tinted glasses to a degree!)

It must be lovely to get a nice experience with naturally polite and happy kids, but I'm also aware that I'm talking out of my backside as far as those who have less than pleasant experiences are concerned. So sorry,if that's the case.

In my mind, they're all little'uns looking very cute.....in soft focus......

Quite the opposite here. We've had what must be every child and teen in the village Grin in groups. Dressed up beautifully. Every time we open the door it's a cheery chorus of hello, hellos to my kids (everyone knows their names) and happy halloween and they say thank you as they choose their sweets and go off saying thank you again, and bye.

All of them. Without exception.

It's been lovely to hear them walking down the street, laughing and chatting to each other. They're all having a really nice time.

I think they're all done now though, not had anyone for over half an hour.

We don't get them as we're a bit out of the way.

If we did little happy faces would be enough thanks for me.[ feeling left out emoticon]

Mine say thanks when they're out trick or treating, but I can see how the whole urgency and excitement can take over and cause some perfectly well mannered children to forget.

YANBU, I told my group to say thank you and then followed that by saying thank you on their behalf.

All our trick or treaters said thank you, we've had about 20 knocks - all lovely and friendly and grateful.

We've had lots of sweet little people and their parents and most of them said thankyou but best of all were the teenagers. One very big lad (dressed as a nun ! ) and his friend were lovely. The 'Nun' said thankyou for his Milkyway and waved on his way, chatting to the little people he passed. Such a cheery young man.

We've had more big hordes (8+) this year. I've noticed that if the first snaffler says thank you, then everyone else does it automatically. If the first one doesn't then it's 50/50 whether the rest say it or consider it 'uncool'. Either way I've sent them off with a cheery 'Have a good night'! I love it! I've run out of chocolate bars and only have Chuppa Chops lollies left. Hope I don't get snubbed like oreo!

All ours said thank you this year even big looking teenagers were very polite & appreciative. Several tinies had mums & dads behind the hedge shouting "say thank you now" :) though to be fair the kids had mostly all said it themselves and all dressed up - I'm always more impressed by those who make the effort to dress up too.

At least they took your sweets - mine were snubbed!

Left everything to the last minute and Asda was bare so I could only get asda own brand chocolate bars. Twice a child put there head over the bowl and then said no thanks. At least they remembered their manners I suppose Grin

All our trick or treaters said thank you.

But they were groups of 1 or 2, quite young and with an adult.

If they are in a larger group I expect excitement takes over. I would like to think dd would still say thank you, she does have good manners. but sometimes kids manners do slip when excited, tired, stressed.

YANBU to want one.

Oh I hate bad manners. Angry Each of mine and my friends children said thank you we made sure of it. Even my 2.5 yr old.

They are all excited and unless they have a parent prompting them some do forget!

I think they should say thanks. But I also think spirits are high the kids are excited and rushing around so maybe let things slip.

I've just followed ds round. The doors he went to alone I heard him say thanks. The ones he went to go bigger groups were a bit more manic and I did have to shout from the gate 'what do yous say' a couple of times!
