AIBU?

To be furious with sports directs refund policy??

So today I went to sports direct with a friend and our children. Shop was hot and packed and I was looking for a waterproof jacket since I have now bought a bike through work to cycle and cut costs. Df's dd starts crying and soon enough DS is bored and tired chimes in too. So hot, flustered and feeling the pressure I grabbed the only one I could find after circling twice and bought it for £29.99. I really can't afford to be spending that kind of money and felt v guilty. After lunch I went back it was less busy so I got help and found one for £14.99. I went to refund and was told store policy was to not give cash back but a gift voucher! Wtf!? Who do they think they r?????? If I knew I would have never made such an impulsive decision or even bought from them now I have a £15 voucher I definitely don't want to use and sitting between wanting to cry or sending an email to customer service and tell them they are fucking c

I was in Sports Direct today paying at the tills upstairs, when the manager ( I assume) came across on a radio sat next to the tills. He was very rude abrubt and was telling his staff off for not shifting enough of something or other in the hour previously. Turns out he was berating them for not selling enough reusable bags! They have a 10% of sales made target for them ffs!

I said to the poor guy on the till tell him to fuck off 'I'd have one, but I have one already and they are a bag for life you know so I don't need another' Wink

felt so sorry for the staff at that particular branch crown point leeds

Yabu. Like others have said there is a big notice behind the tills. Surely when ever you buy from a place that is you to you you ask what there refund policy is on the off chance you want to take back.

I'm not just saying this to make you feel better but you don't really want to be spending any less than that on a waterproof jacket anyway. I doubt very much the cheaper model would in fact be waterproof. Also the cheaper the jacket the less breathable it is and that really makes a difference when you are cycling.

In any event you will save loads of money cycling, so try to concentrate on the positives. In time you are unlikely to regret your purchase.

Is there really nothing you can use the voucher on?

Birthday presents/childrens clothes/lunchboxes - I can't believe that anyone with children wouldn't be able to use the voucher. You wouldn't even need to spend it on stuff you wouldn't normally buy - they sell so many different things.

Thanks catholic dad but I had already returned it for the cheaper one I hope it's not that bad but now it's making me think I should check reviews before using it. I have never cycled before so not something I had considered. There are so many things we need but our financial situation has been so dire during and freshly post maternity leave that every penny counts but we have changed phone plans, gas and elec and now cycling and in a couple if months if all goes to plan we should be back on track... Right now I just want my £15 Blush having calmed down now I know I over reacted and I think some of the guys at work would probably be interested in the voucher

If it says waterproof then it will have to be waterproof. If it is not then they would have to give you a refund!

Most high street shops don't give cash refunds for sale items. Most of sports directs stock is quite heavily discounted.

I think they are fab. If you want to make sure you can change your mind then buy online - you have a legal 7 day cooling off period - although you might have to pay the return postage...

Jeezy - they have to give cash refunds if the items are faulty or not as described or not fit for the purpose for which they were sold, as per the Sale of Goods Act. Whether they were 'in the sale' or not.

Sell it on eBay. You'll probably get back almost the entire value. I once saw a John Lewis £50 voucher go for £50 plus £1 postage Hmm

I nearly bought my dd a swimming costume from there. At the till I just happened to check if I could get my money back if it didn't fit and the sales assistant said no.
There were no changing rooms either!
To be fair I went into another branch and my dd tried on the swimwear.
I do think they offer good value on sportswear, apart from the no refunds policy.

Sports direct are fab

They have massive signs up at the tills stating their policy

I've never had any hassle exchanging goods - mind you we spend a fortune there so I don't mind a credit note

I work for sports direct and although it may not be the best shop it also isn't as bad as some people make out. People often come into the shop wanting to buy stuff cheep yet complain when we don't have the same policies as more popular shops. I know it may be a bit of an inconvenience but it states on the receipt that refunds are not given. Most people are okay with this, seeing as it's a discount store and often cheaper than other shops- for exactly the same product. There are plenty of people that you can complain to if you wish to do so, contact any branch and they can give you any contact information you may need or give you a complaints form.

They are not the only high st store to do this. Office, the shoe shop, won't do no fault refunds either. Hmm

It is like this in all stores, if we don't sell enough 'bags for life' then we potentially lose our job.. They're really hard on us about it

Sports direct- crap refund policy, cheap goods(made in poorer parts of the world) and zero hour contracts.

I think that tells you everything you need to know about the ethics and ethos of this business owner.

I avoid this shop where possible as I feel guilt ridden everytime I have to use it. Being on minimum wage means I need cheap trainers etc for the dc.

Try talking to anyone in their supply chain and they'll swear for 5 minutes without repeating themselves.

I was shocked and a bit peeved when that first happened to me, when my children were young. Ok they are not acting unlawfully, but if you don't know, and most other shops do refund, then it is NBU to be upset. If you don't expect any different, you don't go round looking for notices, however big they are.

I do buy from there for the kids, but I am careful. They probably do lose some of my business because of it.

My issue is more the fact they don't have changing rooms, so have no idea if it fits ok until you get the item home.
Then if they don't have larger/smaller in stock that would fit, you get a voucher.
But sorry, yabu not to find out their returns policy b4 buying.

their refund policy is bad,not good for customer satisfaction

so i do agree it is annoying

only shop in there when i have to hate the tight isles,to few staff, half the time looks like a jumble sale

oh and my last one the price tag was £1000 now £5 do people really believe that was it's RRP

Refunds are irrelevant. Zero hour contracts and sweat shops are more of a concern.

most shops have the same policy over refunds for a simple change of mind unfortunately. I live near their head office and their clearance store and I have to say that the staff have always fallen over themselves to be helpful especially as when their lift broke and needed to get dd and the pram upstairs. two very nice young men carried the whole thing upstairs and gave me their names telling me to ask someone to out put a call out for them when I wanted to come back down.

we have a lot of stores round here and I have never had a bad experience to be honest but I do understand your frustration

Similar story with me:

So, about a month ago I brought three pairs of shoes for my children from Sports Direct Online. When they arrived, one of them was completely the wrong size to which I had ordered and the other was damaged so I decided to return all three shoes via distribution. I made sure that I noted that I wanted the money back onto my debit card on the return slip, however, they returned all the money back onto a store voucher. I don't usually shop in sports direct, it really was a one off and now I'm stuck with this stupid voucher. When I emailed customer service, they said that there is nothing they can do now as it is on a voucher and they can't return the voucher for money! When I called up, one of the representatives basically told me that it's my fault for returning all of the shoes. I can't believe this, it's absurd. Not all the shoes were a change of mind, I'm not at fault and now I'm out of pocket because I had to pay a TWO delivery charges. I had a few of cases like this with sports direct but I thought it would be different if I brought online... obviously not.

I must be alone in assuming you could return anything in a saleable condition and tags on/in original packaging for a full cash refund. I find it appalling customer service that any store would NOT do this, what skin is it off their nose if they can re sell the item? I personally think YANBU OP.

But being this upset/wanting to cry over it. Yeah YABU, it's 15 quid which you were orginally ok to spend in the first place til you found the cheaper jacket so.
