... For a 3 year old boy's haircut. It's not overly long, just needs tidying up. The last hairdresser I took him to charges £8... Hmm

£7 here on Manchester at a fairly bog standard barbers. If we take him to Toni & Guy it's £15 - £20 depending on length.

£8 doesn't sound too bad especially if it's got a bit long.

I tend to do a No 2 at sides and No 5 at top for DS2, so he can gel it up spiky. DS1 (his twin) prefers a No3 all over, which, I admit is easier and takes a lot less time and worrySmile.
Frothy-It is very hard to cut someone with trimmers, especially with the clip on lengh bits, and you can take your time. With my 2 when they were little, getting them to sit for a haircut was a nightmare, so I admit that I often did it in 2 stages, mind you, they did look a bit weird for a day with half cut hair on several occasionsGrin
I must admit, I don't think I would attempt a girls hair - too many memories of "pudding bowl" haircuts as a child, with a really short fringe as my DM tried and tried to get it straightWink

In Tyneside my DP only pays about £5 or £6. Honestly - 43 yo DP :) My hairdresser charged a few quid - £2.50 maybe for my DD.

My friend did cut her DS hair herself. She didn't do a brilliant job, but at least he's too young to care yet and she has a good sense of humour about it. It's put me off cutting DD's hair again myself.

I paid £5 for ds whos 5 at the barbers. Its worth every penny I used to give him a number 4 all over at home but was fed up with having a fight as he hates the clippers.

He now has a short back and sides and a mr maker on top as he asked the barber for and totally confused the poor guy. I had to explain he mean't spikey on top. Only trouble is now it costs me a fortune in hair gel and he takes longer to do his hair in the morning than dd whos got waist length hair.

I have paid anything between £6 and £15 in the past 12 years.

I'd expect to pay about £9 at the barbers. (Weirdly the hairdressers is cheaper)

We are in London suburbs..DS1 tells me that he pays £7 at the barbers for his. Paid haircuts are a new thing in this house, until about 18 months ago I had always cut the DS's hair myself (they are now 10 and 13, and require 'styles' which are beyond the No. 2 all over powers of the clippers!)

For what is essentially a 5 minute hair cut they charge £8.50 here. I think it's shocking.

I pay £10 at the barbers - they are very good. I used to pay a fiver at the local hairdressers but it was very hit and miss

Oh God, I'm tired. That post made no sense. Sorry - I'll try again, and this time I'll try to get my point across clearly. Hmm. Cheapest place in my town is £10. Which seems to be the dearest on this thread. I hope that makes my previous post semi-understandable...

Farking hell. In my medium-sized town in the SE, the cheapest I can get DS1 & DS2's hair cut (both need scissor cuts, look thuggish with shaved hair) is £10. Which seems to be the dearest. I would have thought London would be dearer. £10 is the cheapest - some salons here charge upwards of £20-£25 for under 12's. DS1 is 9yo, DS2 is 7yo.

Ds has just turned 3 and it's £6 for him (would be a fiver if he held still enough for anyone other than the salon owner to do it)
Worth every penny!

I'd pay up to £10 I think.

£9 rings a bell for trimming the DDs. Both need doing again, but DD2 is refusing to go. Stroppy preteen, finding the right moment is better than arguingWink

I pay £7.50 for my boys. They both have long hair though so it's a proper cut rather than a blade ... all over IYSWIM.

Our hairdresser charged DM £5 whilst we were at school, then us £8 until we graduated (for just a cut, not wash & blow dry). That was in a small town in Norfolk... you might need to head to the sticks or maybe look at City College (Norwich) and see if they have a salon there. They're usually very good about arranging things for their students to practice on the general public and they tend to get - from word of mouth - good reviews :)

?10 here in the kids cuts place, though I do the two oldest myself, one with clippers, one layers with the scissors, so I only bring the toddler in for a cut.

My DS is 14 months with very little hait but wanted about a centimeter off of the top so it looked a bit less like a toupee, DH was having his hair cut so at the end sat him on his knee for 2 minute job...they charged £6! Shock My hairdresser told me the next day she doesnt charge if she is doing a parents hair too!

Toni & Guy charge £15 which given Trotters (our other local kiddie salon)charge £12.50 and do a worse job than me seems quite reasonable. Cutting boys hair is hard if they have a longish cut.
