I've been on Metranidazole for 5 days, took the last tablet yesterday morning. The literature says do not drink for 48 hours, it's been 34 hours, I've had a bugger of a day and I am gasping for a Wine!

Is the 48 hours a bit of a CYA for the drug manufacturers? Has anyone here had a drink within the 48 hours and had a reaction?

I was just Googling this and found this thread. Had my last pill at 10pm last night, so I guess red wine is not a good idea. We're going on holiday on Saturday though, can I drink then?

Don't do it. I was on that once and only left it 24 hours. Was sick as a dog.

Sleepyhead - 48 hours will be OK.

In some people combining metronidazole and alcohol causes truly horrible side effects - vomiting, headaches, pain - so it’s really not worth the risk. This is not the case for other antibiotics.

I know this is a zombie thread but I came across it earlier this year.

Please read this blog and decide drinking on metro isn't a good idea whatever anyone says. I read the blog contemplating an alchol free Becks and it put me off being despite just being 0.05%

My favourite comment is "is maybe the people saying they'd drink and come back and update us around drinking are dead'. My pharmacist made it crystal clear that could be the case if I drank on these tablets.

i NEVER go on these websites. I didn't even know mumsnet was a thing until today. I was on a 5 day dose of the stuff, thought id be ok to have half a pint, and then another half as I felt fine. This was approx a few hours after my last dose (stupid!) and around 3 or 4 hours later I felt SO effing sick. I kept urging and I would have been sick if it weren't for my "mind over matter" way of thinking. I forced myself to not be sick. But it's such an unpleasant feeling, I felt hungover and/or coming down with the flu and the next day had a banging headache and felt lethargic as hell. JUST DONT DO IT. i even considered going out tonight but it really really is not worth it. I would just wait a few full days and eat and drink plenty of (non alcoholic) things.

Don't do it - I had a sip of DHs drink once thinking it would be fine in similar circumstances - projectile vomiting proved otherwise

Metroniazole and alcohol really don't mix
