AIBU?

To be pissed off with neighbours and her fricking yappy dog

Pagwatch · 11/03/2011 15:42

I have a friendly dopey dog who is kept at all times behind our gates or in the house when the gates are open
My neighbours has two dogs one of which is an aggressive little shit of a thing.

She will stand at my gates while her dog snaps and barks and growls at mine. I call my dog in but she just stands there.
When my dog is in my house because the gates are open she lets the lead extend so that her dog can come half way up the drive and pee.

Aibu to be getting increasingly fucked off.

Wow, is that your house in the pics? Then trust me you're totally NBU in not wanting to sell it...

Inconsiderate neighbours are my pet peeve... lived next to several for years and years, and am so happy we now have a detached with lovely neighbours (as long as we ignore the doddery one that keeps yelling at us for having a small kid and a cat... and no, cat doesn't shit in his garden, we have him on a leash)

Interesting.

I wonder if our inconsiderate bastard neighbours letting their dogs bark constantly (the one from 6am when they'd let it into the garden and then going to the gym for an hour, and the other neighbours who let their big very woofy dog into their garden and then seemingly go deaf, though in fact we can hear it barking in their house two doors away despite being detached!) do this in some sort of protest to cats pooing in their garden?

Hmmm, I don't have any cats. I don't want to hear dogs barking incessantly. Glad environmental health agree with me and have told them to shut their dogs the fuck up.

And we do have a dog ourselves. Our inconsiderate bastard neighbours who ruin everyone's enjoyment of their gardens and homes were amazed to learn we have a dog as well, as she doesn't bark at all - not even to react to their dogs when they are barking.

Fucking unreasonable and makes me so fucking mad.

OP, can you organise a sprinkler or two aimed at the driveway (and preferably aimed at the footpath where the dog's owner stands? Wait until they're in position and then turn the tap on.

Just do what my neighbours do and thump on the wall every time a dog barks. Even if it's not your neighbours dog Confused

Curlymama why do you think your neighbours should have to listen to your dog barking all day? Presumably they don't all have cats that use your garden as a latrine?

My dog doesn't bark all day, as I said, he barks when he can hear other dogs barking, it's like they're having a little chat over the garden fences! Or he barks if he can hear someone from the front coming up our gravel driveway, but he certainly doesn't bark excessively.

How is it any more selfish to allow your neighbours to hear a dog barking sometimes than it is to allow a cat onto a persons property when they shit on it and the property owner can't stand cats?

I just see it as part and parcel of living in a street with lots of houses that are close to eachother. We all have to be tolerant of eachother and of the pets we all choose to keep.

IF people are going to keep a dog they must understand that many people do not like dogs, but tolerate them if they do not impinge - ie poop and barking clearly annoys people and rightly- these are the two main regular issues - if we set aside biting. I always trained my dog to bark at the door bell ringing (cuts my home insurance) - and then to STFU - I have neighbours who let the dog out for a "bark" and it really annoys me that I trained mine when to bark and when not and they do not give a toss,, irritating all the neighbours around and gicing all the dogs in the 'hood a bad name.

Just thought of another option, put up a big banner "Do come and pee here in my drive, I like watching"

You'll never see her againGrin

Vallhala · 11/03/2011 20:52

Ooooh yes, definitely wave wildly at her!

I don't mind dogs barking but I do mind people like your neighbour!

Comfort yourself with knowing that you have by far the nicer dog. Wink

I agree - wave to her! It would completely take the wind out of her sails, her face would be a picture ( you must come back and describe it to us in great detail Grin )

And don't sell, out of principle!

Oh thank you Pag.

Glad you feel better about the bastard dog situation. I expect if you did wave to her while her dog was peeing in your drive, she will be so Confused and hopefully a bit Blush she won't do it again.

I have a little dog and she is lovely. Little dogs don't always have to be yappy. If mine starts to bark I shout "biscuits" and she runs in like a shot.

We did used to get very cross about a large dogs whose owner would lets it SHIT on our drive. He did stop though when DH caught him at it, and asked him if he would like a bag to take it away with him Grin

Ooh Pag - don't move - where would we go for house envy?

I once leapt out of my front door to berate a man who was letting his dog crap outside my front gate (we had a very short path - nothing like yours...). A few days later I leapt out again to berate a different man with the same dog - and he told me the old man had died and he was taking the dog for one last walk before taking it to be put down Sad (It was an old doddery dog).

Your neighbour is clearly trying to intimidate you. You are a woman of great reason. You can rise above it.

Acanthus · 11/03/2011 18:35

Ah. Yes that makes sense. You have a very lovely house, IIRC. It's horrid when they get bulldozed for a modern estate.
