I am actually seriously really scared Sad

I have terrible anxiety anyway, but all this about the world ending in 2012 is really terrifying me.

The thread on Chat has just set me off again Sad

There are all these supposed 'signs' and things, argh I'm not going to sleep tonight!

I don't understand why everyone thinks the Mayans were so clever (well apart from the chocolate thing). Probably they got to 2012 and just couldn't be arse any more.

My mum has been reading up on the Mayans as she is fascinated with all this Doomsday bollocks.

Anyhow, I have it on good authority that the Mayans did not predict that the world would end in 2012. They believed in cycles. 2012 is simply the end of their 'long cycle'.

Think about it logically, they had to stop somewhere, why not 2012?

Also the Mayan calander is said to be widely missunderstood and many people believe that the long cycle does not end in Dec 2012 but in March 2014.

Nostradamus also did not predict that the world would end in 2012. Simply that it would end as we know it i.e change. This could mean anything.

Again he is widely misinterpreted because he wrote his predictions in a riddle sort of way (can't remember the correct term, sorry). His predictions carry on well past 2012 and only 50% of his 'predictions' are believed to have come true.

I can quiz my mum on the books she reads if you like, op?

I do not believe humanity will be wiped out in one year. I believe it will slowly happen as we pollute the planet. Don't worry. We won't be alive when it happens. I used to be a nervous wreak worrying about things, decided there is no point. We are stocked up on supplies, but that is simply because it is a smart thing to do, in case of power down or illness.

Hi AllHail, I too am one of the biggest worriers in the world, but strangely the one thing I am not scared of is the world ending in 2012 because it's not going to happen Smile. I hope NASA's website about why nothing is going to happen in 2012 will make you feel better - www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html.

As for the scary bird dying stories happening lately, one of the theories I've read is that the magnetic north pole has shifted slightly towards Russia and upset a lot of migrating birds. Its not a sign of the apocalypse and I'm pretty sure its not a sign of Jesus coming!! The magnetic poles shift every 400k years and NASA say this shouldn't be a problem for us.

PS the Mayans didn't see the slaughter of their entire race by the Spanish coming did they? Not that bloody clever then Grin.
