Louise5754 · 20/11/2021 21:54

Tried:
Asor Nasal Spray
Magnetic Clips
Mouth Guard
Nasal Strips

All reviews were great but they didn't work.

Not tried:
Chin Strap
Anti Snore Pillow

It's exhausting not being able to sleep in my own bed.

Can anyone recommend anything please x

Have your DP checked for sleep apnea. Only thing to stop my snoring was a cpap machine once I was diagnosed.

I have mentioned it to the gp but then I became ill so it got forgotten about. What do they do?

Chin straps do not work. Well- they work in so much as it looks like a head nappy and therefore illicit laughs and good will from the person the snorer is torturing , making their suffering easier. But otherwise nope.

If you find the answer op- pleas tell me x

T-shirt with a pocket on it. Put a tennis ball in pocket and stitch up pocket. Get snorer to wear T-shirt to bed backwards so it keeps them on their side.

Chase referral to sleep clinic for sleep study / Sleep apnoea check

Pillow over the snorers face Grin

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 20/11/2021 22:25

The only thing that worked for us is DP to lose weight.

dementedpixie · 20/11/2021 22:27

Dh did a sleep study and ended up with a CPAP machine

FatCottonBuds · 20/11/2021 22:27

I'd like to know too. I snore regardless of position, weight, sobriety... I actually think I have some physical deformity!

Louise5754 · 20/11/2021 22:30

It's extremely embarrassing as most people assume it's the man. I was in hospital recently and tried my best to stay awake all night.

Go and speak to your doctor, don't be embarrassed. Loads of my friends snore, it's a common problem. Where are you sleeping at the moment?

FatCottonBuds · 20/11/2021 22:33

Oh OP I hear you! I'm mortified by the row I make when asleep. I warn anyone around me, and apologise profusely. But there really is nothing I can do about it! The gp gave me nasal drops years ago that had zero impact.

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/11/2021 22:34

I wondered if it was you.
You need to talk to your GP, detail all the methods and devices you have tried, ask for a referral to the sleep clinic as you suspect that a cpap machine is the answer.

Louise5754 · 20/11/2021 22:34

My husband is away loads but when he's home either the sofa or I have one of the kids with me and he goes into their bed. I start off in my bed.

Those machines are £300 😮😮

I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and have a CPAP machine. It has changed my life. I didn’t realise how awful I was feeling until I started to feel better IYSWIM.

Mine is weight related so the sleep clinic referred me to the weight management service and that’s going really well. However, they did say it’s not always sleep related.

PhoboPhobia · 20/11/2021 22:35

If you meet the referral criteria you can get one in the NHS.

Louise5754 · 20/11/2021 22:35

I've put weight on too but have no motivation to lose it to be honest. Lazy I know.

I didn't think you could buy a cpap privately, a by prescription only device?

Kikkomam · 20/11/2021 22:42

Dh is not overweight but his snoring is awful. Its his palate I think.

I wear Macks purple earplugs. They are pretty good.

FinallyHere · 20/11/2021 22:47

Sleep apnea and snoring are two quite separate things. I snore but do not have the pauses which indicate sleep apnea

Snoring doesn't disturb my sleep, only anyone sleeping near me.

Kikkomam · 20/11/2021 22:48

Dh doesn't have sleep apnea.

OMG... you can buy a CPAP machine? Really?
CockaleekieAye · 20/11/2021 22:52

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in Marchtbis year - waking over 115 times an hour and my snoring was horrendous. Did a two night sleep study at home with a monitor (like a watch with a. Finger sensor) and got my CPAP machine about three weeks later.

Absolute game changer - I'm no longer falling asleep at work or on calls and have enough energy to exercise and start to lose weight.

I'd push for an apnea check initially and if it's not that, then maybe a mouth guard. My other half is a pretty bad snorer (but I can grumble given the earth shattering snores I used to produce), but he got one from Amazon and it really does make a difference .

CockaleekieAye · 20/11/2021 22:54

Can't grumble obviously 🙄

Also, I think you can rent CPAP. machines whilst you wait for nhs availability, but I guess it depends what your local nhs trust is like for providing them

Hairyfriend · 20/11/2021 22:55

Snoring is generally caused by 2 things. Either an anatomical abnormality- nasal trauma/birth defect, or small jaw problems etc. This would generally mean you have snored you whole life.

If snoring starts later in life, its generally from weight gain and excess fat around the neck and sagging of the soft palette, and/or alcohol.

Are you tired during the day? Can fall asleep easily? There are many sleep apnoea questionnaires you can do online to find out how likely you are to have sleep apnoea.

After years of pestering, I finally got my DH to speak to his GP- this was Mar 2020. He had a 24hr blood pressure machine that took his BP every hour. Not even had the results. He is supposed to have a device to monitor his heart rate, oxygen etc whilst he sleeps and still waiting for that. Some places will send a home device- others use a sleep clinic where you sleep overnight under monitoring and cameras. His latest consultant 'appointment' is another phone consult in mid 2022!!! We started this in Mar 2020, so I really feel for those with even more life threatening problems!

Catlovermumof1 · 20/11/2021 23:12

My dad was a terrible snorer for years, could hear him from the other side of the house with doors closed! He tried everything but he has recently started using the Snore Circle earset and he swears by it, also my DSM has said that he has completely stopped snoring. Quite pricy though but my parents were at the stage where they were going to buy a new house for a seperate bedroom because of the snoring!

hippoherostandinghere · 20/11/2021 23:41

I really feel for you OP I'm exactly the same and it's awful. My daughter was in hospital a while back and I was so embarrassed staying with her but I had to choice but to sleep at night time, I made a horrendous racket.
I'd really love to know why I snore. I'm just over 9 stone so it can't always be weight related. If you find a magic cure let me know!
