I'm only on week 2 and I'm starting to really see that I'm making progress. I've already left it 2 days between runs (so last one was Monday) and I'm worried that if I wait until Saturday when I next have time I'll have lost some of the progress. Would you

a) go anyway and get soaking wet and have to wash hair properly before work, meaning that I might be late starting and will have to visit clients with wet hair
b) run on the spot indoors
C) try and fit in a run at lunchtime if it has stopped raining and I can finish my morning work in time (morning work is unpredictable, afternoon I have a fixed time I have to be somewhere)
d) write it off for today and hope I haven't become terribly unfit by Saturday

Go

You'll feel amazing when you've done it

Running in the rain is character building. Or something

Honestly - you'll be fine

If that roads are icy it becomes dangerous. I took up running last winter and when I was frosty I was able to run around one of our fields, the frost just kind of crunches the ground underneath isnt smooth like a road.
Xmas eve I went out when I thought the roads were black enough, I could see where the cars had been so went on tyre Mark's, I didn't pay enough attention at a set of crossroads and slipped over. Thankfully I someone managed to do so lightly and gracefully and wasnt hurt but I walked home. Learned my lesson, I can do laps of the fields in ice and have snow but I'm keeping off the roads

Well done op! Don't let the rain put you off. Many a glorious run in the rain.

Icy / Frosty .... as long as you're layered up it's fine to go. Personally I'd avoid actually running anywhere near ice, you really wouldn't want to fall.

Can I chip in as a new runner? How icy/frosty is a problem?

@IveSeenThings

I run in the dark most of the time (have to fit around work and children) but I'm not a fan of rain running. I run on grass not roads, and it's so slippy and boggy!

I did have to adapt my route as my usual one is very muddy even on dry days

@roarfeckingroarr

Just seen your update - well done! You've inspired me to hand over the baby to wfh DH and go out.

Running in the dark is quite nice. I ran down the river pathway two days ago and it was beautiful.

Yay! Well done, I hope you enjoyed it

Running in the rain is great, and skin is waterproof

Glad you went !

Running on the spot uses your muscles in slightly different ways, so I would avoid.

And there's nothing like going out in the wet for making that shift and realising you're a 'real' runner

(You are of course a real runner from your very first one, but sometimes you don't quite believe it for a while)

C. I'm on week 3 after having my baby and also in London. No way am I going out until the rain shifts.

The only time I don't run is ice or strong winds because I live in a forest and I don't fancy getting squished by a falling branch.

I go anyway and pretend I'm in a cheesy pop music video!

I'm gutted this morning as its heavy snow here, too dangerous to run. In happy to run in the rain but I dont go I strong wind usually, I hate strong wind. I'm desperately hoping the snow will melt by the weekend

My favourite motivation quote is “you never regret going for a run, but you do regret not going for a run” (I don’t know who said it but it is so true)

A. I always run come rain or shine. This country is crap weather-wise so if you always hold off until it's dry you'll basically never complete 5k!

Oooh yes running in the rain is fun once your feet get properly wet, prior to that I do a lot of puddle jumping.

Much prefer running in the rain to baking sunshine.
