The “I don’t need anything” husband gift thread

Does anyone else have a DH who is practically impossible to buy for? He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything and I have no clue what to get him.

He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t like sports. He sounds horrifically boring but he’s not I swear Grin

What are you getting your impossible to buy for DH?

Decanter for red wine, and a nice bottle of wine to go with it

Like pps my DH locates clothes shopping do he is getting two nice jumpers, socks and loads of pants. Some of his pants are 15 years old!

I'm also doing a deli / cheese hamper as he's a real foodie. Will either make it up myself from the local farm shop or order ready made online, obviously much nearer the time.

Got my brother soundcore Bluetooth earbuds (£60) after he said he was looking for some. He loves his 'research' so I said these are great and have a listen. They are indeed great so that was job done.

There's also these giant 2 inch silicon ice cube moulds on amazon. Black. That ice is just amazing in whisky or well anything really. Buy with a bottle of angostura bitters (needed for most whisky cocktails but impossible to find) and any other accoutrements needed for their favourite drink. I'm hooked on whisky sours (actually use bourbon) and old fashioneds but most whisky cocktails are preferred by men.

DH usually buys himself a load of vinyl before November, when they arrive I hide them and by the time Xmas rolls round he’s forgotten what he’s bought and gets really excited on Xmas morning... bless him. And thank god for his goldfish memory!

Haynes manuals do books about things like Spitfires, the Millenium Falcoln that are good for techy/practically minded people, although DP was disappointed that I didn't buy him the Spitfire to go with his manual - this is his lottery winning purchase, or at least an engine to tinker with.

Cookbooks or food books if he's a foodie?

A couple of 'coffee table' books that I have are one about maps of the UK produced by Russian spies during the cold war. It's really interesting seeing the maps of places you recognise in Russian and thinking about what could have been.

And one about the menus at noteable events and restaurants. Great for people who like reading menus, even when they've ordered their food or is that just me.

But for people like this, I'd just go along the token present route. No need to spend money for the sake of it and get yourself into a load of stress along the route.

I instigate a ban on buying non essential items for himself from basically October onwards Grin. Anything he wants has to go on a list for me/relatives.

For my dhs recent birthday I was struggling to get him a gift and he said he did not want anything of course.
But then I was passing a men's novelty T-shirt shop with my dd and she pointed saying "mummy it's wall e, it's wall e"
So I decided to get him something my dd would like instead because at least someone would be happy.

It's now my dhs favorite T-shirt and I can't wash it fast enough. My dd always makes a fuss of him in it and he actually likes watching the film with her.

I'm now on the hunt for a Moana theme shirt that still looks manly/cool.

That's mad. What if the things he wants sell out or go up in price?

Just let him buy what he wants when he wants and get him a chocolate orange/bottle of spirits or whatever, rather than going through such a ridiculous charade so you can pretend that you or another relative bought him X, Y or Z 'for Christmas'.

Oh goodness this reminds me of Christmas 2010. I actually bought my “don’t need or want anything” husband NOTHING for Christmas!!!

It went down quiet poorly with family, as we were at PIL’s house and when everyone was putting gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve, everyone was horrified I hadn’t bought him anything 🙈 DH said “really, you haven’t bought anything?”. I felt so bad and hardly slept that night.

A boardgame.

Seven Wonders Duel is an excellent 2 player game if there's just the two of you at home. If there are kids at home then there are various threads here on mumsnet where people have asked for recommendations for boardgames - choose one that's definitely a "grownup" game that is accessible to the age-range of the kids that you have, rather than giving him a kids boardgame which might obviously be taken amiss.

@Trumpton you have saved Christmas!! A wake up light is the perfect present - my husband has always talked about getting one as he hates getting up in the morning, don't know why it never occurred to me as a present. You are a genius, thank you!

I got my Dad a frozen T bone steak and some cheese to make the sauce one Birthday.
Parents must have thought I was an idiot.
Two weeks later my mum calls, she had cooked it. She had the fillet off it and Dad spent 30 mins eat and sucking the bone.
She said it was beautiful meat....

DH said “really, you haven’t bought anything?” If you can't be bothered to think of anything you want, you shouldn't be surprised if that's what you get! It's very lazy to expect someone else to do all your thinking for you.

For coffee lovers. List of independent coffee producers. My DH already uses 2 of these brands, but I don’t think he’s come across the others yet so I think I’ll pick up a few bags from this list and make a coffee bean box for him to sample!!
