Hmm

www.howtoacademy.com/events/transgender-athletes-and-the-science-of-fairness/?mc_cid=ad77a2171a&mc_eid=0ff868ffb0

From the listing:

Should trans athletes participate in women’s sport? Philosophy professor, activist and world champion cyclist Rachel McKinnon sifts science and ethics from politics and prejudice.

An issue with profound consequences for society’s ideas of fairness, gender, and equality, the participation of trans women in women’s competitive sports has made regular front page news.

Dr. Rachel McKinnon is at the forefront. As the first openly trans woman to win a world championship in an Olympic sport, she faces constant harassment and abuse on social media, while as an activist and public intellectual, her campaigns, papers, articles and interviews have done much to shift attitudes in the world of international sport and beyond.

In this talk, Dr. McKinnon will explore the ethics, law and science of fairness in sport, including whether biological restrictions such as testosterone limits violate principles of fairness and equality. Ahead of this autumn’s track racing world championship in Manchester, don’t miss this opportunity to hear from an internationally renowned athlete and scholar on how she is breaking down barriers and helping to overturn prejudice with science.

Retitled that for her.

Well I'm sure that will be an unbiased and fair assessment of facts. Internationally renowned. Yeah right.

Like being told to die in a grease fire? Oh no wait, that was McKinnon who said that....

Very tempted to go to this, if I'm free. I've worked in elite sport for 20 years, ten in cycling, and it pisses me off that I've watched female riders slog their guts out every single day - possibly for nothing, if the trans movement gains traction.

And the ad is wrong - the track worlds aren't being held in Manchester in the autumn, it's the masters track worlds, which are an entirely different thing. Former pro cyclists wouldn't give masters events any kind of kudos - masters is for good amateurs, nothing more. And the way the masters events can be abused - there's a guy who is 85 who wants the governing body to put on races for the 85-90 age group. The fact that he is the only one who wants to compete, and would become world champion by default, is neither here nor there to him.

I've sat in so many track events over the years and our crowds would definitely not be happy at watching Laura Kenny or Katie Archibald getting their arses kicked by some trans athlete. The sport would absolutely leak income, and track isn't like road - there isn't a lot of money in it.

Tickets thirty quid a pop. All profits to orphaned baby seals, no doubt.

At £25 a ticket, hell no.
I'll donate to Vancouver instead (or one of the things that can't be named or shared)

Wouldn't it be awful if the venue got a whole load of emails/phone call/visits illustrating (with proof, of which we have much) how McKinnon has repeatedly, consistently and persistently abused, threatened and othered women as part of an ongoing campaign of hate and intimidation to claw their way to the top of the women's category when they couldn't succeed in the men's sport?

After all, what's sauce for the goose....

Why would the venue want to be associated with such bigotry, misogyny and hate?

To be fair, LittleFairywren, McKinnon IS internationally renowned.

Just not in the way that McKinnon would prefer cheating and misogyny vs sporting excellence

I wonder if she'll be competing in Manchester? The NCC is virtually empty when the Masters is on, so plenty of space to heckle. (It's that quiet that the woman who sells the event cycling jerseys does her knitting and usually finishes a whole jersey!).

When feminists hold an event, they and the venue get deluged by threats and libels. They end up holding meetings at secret locations, which TRAs - the very people doing the bombarding and libelling - claim proves that feminists are evil.

TRAs hold a meeting, and feminists do nothing. No threats, no lies, no physical blockading or disruptive protests. Feminists believe in encountering ideas with ideas, not with censorship.

So, TRAs - who are the baddies here?

We don't need to, because no one is going to pay £25 to listen to McKinnon speak.

At £11 it's cheaper than £25 for those of us northerners, and the money will be going back into sport rather than in RMcK's pocket...
