At least in Basingstoke.

In standing as Women’s Officer at his CLP David is showing just how easily abused self ID can be when parties or organisations don’t have any gatekeeping.

Sorry - I have just posted this as well. It's another great article from James Kirkup who is clearly as baffled by the whole thing as we are.

I can't read it.... what's the gist?

Man who says he self-declares as woman on Wednesdays is standing as women’s officer

Great quote here:

“those people don’t have any right to criticise my gender-identity. If I say I am a woman on Wednesdays, then all they can do is accept that. After all, there are other people who only identify as women on some days of the week and not others, and they are accepted, not criticised.”
“In any case, anyone else’s criticism or questions about my gender identity are just not relevant to the Labour Party at the moment, given the current policy. If I say I’m a woman, I’m a woman.”

I’d love to know how he came to decide to do this!

Brave man. He will get some stick...

I suspect #womanwednesday is the most oppressed wing/sub section of #manfriday. Amiright? Grin

He said he was inspired by ManFriday, but was worried he’d overstepped the mark.

I think it’s quite clever. Abusing self ID as a man to make a point is a bit more difficult than as a woman, you don’t want to be the man in the ladies loo/changing room/guide unit. This does disadvantage us in that it takes away a job but doesn’t put us at risk.

I hope he doesn’t get too much stick for it - it’s hard when you’re out on this stuff.

Excellent!
They might have to find another man pretending to be a woman to do the other six days a week though because I assume this is a part-time role.
I wanted to put a wink then but Half the buttons aren’t labelled so my screen reader doesn’t tell me what they do. You’ll just have to imagine it, and my lack of animation is an imposition rather than a choice.

This makes me so happy and it's not even Wednesday. It's Tuesday. Grin

I hope he does get elected as a women's officer. Take the plan to its logical conclusion - then step down.

Shock

I came up with this last week with DH. He's stolen my idea the bastard.

Apart from last week I suggested that DH gets himself down to our local swimming pool at 11am on Wednesdays when there are lots of kids running around bollock naked after their swimming lesson.

Society will only listen to us about the problems of self-ID when it starts to affect children.

From the article:
"So he’s standing for a woman’s post. Why?

“My priority here is to inform the CLP, and maybe some other people, about what this policy means, about what happens when you say that someone’s gender depends only on what they say and nothing else.”

How would David respond to those who might say he is being offensive or bigoted, that he is trivialising the issues that transgender women face?

“I’d say those people don’t have any right to criticise my gender-identity. If I say I am a woman on Wednesdays, then all they can do is accept that. After all, there are other people who only identify as women on some days of the week and not others, and they are accepted, not criticised.”

Apropos of nothing but are ManFriday t-shirts available for purchase?

I think he'd do a whole lot better than the other self ID'd women's officer who overtly doesn't give a single shiny shit about actual women.

SwearyG · 22/05/2018 11:05

I met him at WPUK Basingstoke @HerFemaleness and was really excited by this when we spoke. It's so relieving to have men on board because we know that some people listen to them more than they do to women.

T-shirts are available [http://manfridayuk.org/take-part/ here] if you want one.

The other 'woman's officer' - who shall remain nameless - now has ambitions to be the first trans prime minister, according to their Twitter bio. Well, good lucky sonny.

There are two others. The one who shall not be named, and Heather Peto.
