Healthy eating whilst breastfeeding - anyone want to join me?

DD is 15 weeks now and I'm feeling very wobbly and big still ... mainly because I'm eating shit all the time - so im staging my own intervention! Any other new mums want to join me? I hope by starting a thread I will actually stick to it!

I put breastfeeding in the thread title as I don't want to do calorie restriction as I need the energy to be honest but just eat better food and try to move more.

So, I have just weighed myself and I'm 11st 10lbs - I'm happy around 10st so I have a fair bit to lose!

Would love to hear any quick and easy recipes or meal ideas (but high energy). Also going to try and drink loads more water and do an exercise DVD at least twice a week.

Would love some company - please say hello and join me!

Hiya
My little boy turned 5 months today. I staged my intervention in January. This is my second child and I was way too overweight despite losing 1 1/2 stone after having him! I weighed in at 12stone and as of today I’m 10stone. I have loosely been following SW and restricting carbs - but having protein and lots of veg/salad and fruit.

I have the following things:
B - Bran flakes with milk
Poached egg on 400g wholemeal bread x2 slices
Hard boiled egg on wholemeal bread
Omelette
L - fruit with fat free yoghurt
Jacket potato with beans
Tuna salad/chicken salad
D - salmon, rice, veg
Chicken - and above
I have had a few meals out as well. I would also recommend drinking lots of water as that does help.

I'll join you. My baby is 13 weeks old and I've managed to lose just over 2 stone since having her. I gained 3 stone in pregnancy. I'm managing to eat healthy meals, but my chocolate and biscuit consumption is out of control.

I'm just under 11 stone and would like to be around the 10st7 mark, or just under.

My baby feeds every 1.5 / 2 hours and I'm perma hungry. I need healthy snack ideas; I currently grab a biscuit here and there with my tea to keep me going in between meals.

I have an older daughter who is in afternoon nursery, so I'm always rushing in and out of the house and thinking of what to prepare for everyone's meals is a chore at the moment.

I then sit down of an evening and it's a chocolate fest. Mini eggs and dark chocolate with my cup of tea. Probably 300 calories a night of treats. Why can't I stop this?!

Need to up the exercise (had a section, so unsure with what to start) and cut out this chocolate.

Hello. Baby is 9 weeks and I've been eating far far too much chocolate using breastfeeding as an excuse. Blush Weighed in today at 10 stone 13 and need to get down to around 9 stone 7.

Had a c section so just started back at gym last week and sticking to cross trainer until 12 weeks when I'll start running again.

Hi ladies
Urgh - I got stuck in snow last night! Had to abandon the car and get a lift back from a birthday party with my older DS. I managed to refrain from eating lots of food. My weigh days are Monday’s. I still have around 1 1/2 stone to go and chocolate and junk food is my vice. I have to be honest I really need to plan what I am eating otherwise it goes to pot! Also with my 5 month old - his sleep seems to have got worse all of a sudden and this is driving me mad as I am up 3 or 4 times with him at night. When he was sleeping better I also felt better and was more motivated! When do you guys weigh in? I don’t think I will get a loss this week due to being slack and not being able to reign it back properly!

I think I'll weigh in on a Sunday! Had a rubbish day food wise but went to gym so that's a start.

I've been doing slimming world since January, lost 20lbs.
I eat unlimited fruit, veg, rice, pasta, lean meat, fish, eggs.
I have 250ml semi skimmed milk, a portion of cheese, fat free yoghurt, a slice of wholemeal bread and 40g oats a day.
Limit my treats to one biscuit, one glass of wine or one treat size chocolate a day.

Hi Childmindingmumof3,
Weigh in was this morning, -3lbs so I am now in the 9st bracket at 9.13 just! I am going to try and be good and stick to more protein and veg than the carbs on slimming world. How is everyone else doing?
I’m thinking of having a breakfast of 2 wholemeal toast, 2 x poached eggs, beans and mushrooms. This is very filling and keeps me going most of the day.

Sounds like a great breakfast - I had porridge, coffee and two plums ... and I'm ravenous now and demolishing a tub of hummus and oatcakes Confused definitely going to supermarket later and will stock up on healthy food and snacks. I think I need a bigger breakfast as I get too hungry too early otherwise.

I will weigh in again on Saturday and I'm aiming to do my Davina fitness DVD at least twice this week plus some walks with DD in the buggy.

I find that I am more thirsty than hungry when I’ve had a good breakfast. I’ve had two satsumas since. I have also discovered squash with hot water - I thought it would be yuck but it was quite nice! No added sugar squash mind you. I have a cross trainer and I’m aiming to get on it at least 3 times a week. I’ve also been thinking about Pilates via YouTube videos to strengthen my core.

That's a nice milestone, Remember, under ten stone for you now, well done.

I weigh in on a Monday. 10 stone 11. I'm aiming for 10.5, which is going to be tough as I'm on the last few pounds that don't want to come off.

I managed to cut out the 'between meal' snacks since Friday. I'm always hungry after porridge for breakfast at 8am by 10:45, so have a milky (oat milk) coffee.

I've made a chicken and vegetable concoction for dinner. And will aim for 4 squares of dark chocolate with my mint tea after dinner, and no more!

I’m only 5ft 1 so I am aiming for 8.7 but firstly need to get down to 9st first. What is the oat milk like? I really need to stop with the snacking! Lets keep each other motivated after Monday weigh ins. I also know that having everything written down really helped me lose the last two stone from 12 to 10 stone.

Well done Lost it's the snacks that get me too!
Making a chicken curry for dinner and will not have anything afterwards! Going to try a bigger breakfast tomorrow too

Once this bar of chocolate is finished, I'm not going to replace it.

Oat milk is surprisingly nice. My baby was really windy and sicky in the early days and lots of people suggested going easy on dairy, so I tried almond, oat, coconut etc (not soya).

Unsweetened almond is best for porridge (only 13 calories 100ml and fine when used in cooking). Coconut and oat milk nicest in coffee I find. And anything but cow's milk in builders tea is horrid!

Hello all can I join please? Great idea for a thread!
I had my DS 8 weeks ago and I'm not losing any weight after the initial loss of birth. Mostly I'm putting this down to eating my body weight in biscuits and chocolate every morning - I just feel so hungry after feeding at night!
My LO is currently waking every 2 hours for food all night and feeds every 1- 2.5 hours during the day (growth spurt?) and the only way I get through it is with a gazillion cups of tea and a pile of sweet things. I didn't have much of a sweet tooth until I started breastfeeding!
I'm 10st and want to get back down to 9st before the summer.
Breakfast seems to be the key thing here... but even after a big bowl of porridge with yoghurt and granola, I still reach for the biscuits within a few minutes!! Confused

Welcome emily! I know how you feel - biscuits and sweet things generally are too tempting!

Made my healthy chicken curry for dinner - massive portion with lots of veg and I made the rice go further with grated carrot mixed in... and I'm now starving two hours later! I've changed in to my pyjamas so I don't nip to the corner shop for chocolate Blush

Haha good thinking about the pjs! I've become addicted to having an ice cream (magnum type thing) most evenings which is a terrible habit but one that is hard to break. We have run out though which is what stopped me eating one last night.
Just had boiled eggs and toast for breakfast. We've also run out of biscuits so that should help me be good today!

Does anyone have any recommendations for you tube vids/DVDs that are good for post partum exercise? I had a c section but feeling recovered

Workout to do at home instead of running?www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3189968-Workout-to-do-at-home-instead-of-running

I saw this emilyba which has suggestions. I also had c section and I've just been sticking to the x trainer at the gym.

Going to try a long walk today and no snacking.

Ah thanks Waiting! Good thread, will have a look through.

I need inspiration for healthy snacks... I'm off to the shops in a bit.

Tuna steaks with veg and chips for tea tonight. Lidl and Aldi now sell a pack of 4 frozen tuna steaks for £2.99 and they are delicious although probably meant to limit how much tuna we eat if breastfeeding? Not sure

Gosh I wasn't aware there were foods to avoid when breastfeeding Confused is it all the same stuff as pregnancy ??

I had lean steak and veg for dinner (great) but a huge cupcake this afternoon (not great). Did go for an hour's walk with DD in the buggy though so that's something!

How are you all doing?

Hi ladies
I was a little naughty and had some chocolate birthday cake! Missed breakfast and have had some lovely cotton candy grapes from Aldi - they were lovely! Dinner today was smoked haddock with green beans/broccoli and rice. 1/2 a flat bread and two spoons of humous!

Can I join as well please?

DC 10 weeks old, I am currently 10st and need to get down to 8st 4 lbs. Feeling pretty down on myself at the moment so need to do something about it.

Agree I don't want to calorie counting either but want to eat sensibly and do some exercise every day. Going to do the 30 day shred dvd / swimming.

Agree with the emilyba, I was munching through biscuits to get through night feeds, but I've just not bought any more biscuits and although I'm hungry it's not as bad as I thought it would be without them.

But yes I'm hungry hungry hungry all the time, I wish I could turn off that feeling.

Doesn't help that friends with babies who are breastfeeding are all the 'breastfeeding has helped me shed the lbs' types and already look good. For me I'm the opposite, my body clings on to the fat (this is my 2nd dc so already been there)!

Welcome givemesteel!
Well I’m breastfeeding and also did with my first ds. However I never lost weight naturally when breastfeeding - in fact I ate so much more and not very good food. I just ate like I was eating for two as I just grabbed what I could. I have really had to work hard at losing the weight since January by making sensible choices! You will be able to do it - have faith in yourself and some determination! If you fall off the wagon - just dust yourself off and get back on it! A blip doesn’t need to ruin the whole week for example!
