Weird

It is. 14 of the top 20 threads are about them, I just counted. And apart from this one, I haven't read any.

Why are people so interested?

Yes weird. I’ve just read one today.

Harry wanted xyz, Meghan was trying to do xyz. The Royal Family think that xyz.

It’s like some sort of fan fiction.

The fascination with them is not so weird if you look at it from the perspective of The Couple That Killed The Golden Goose. They’ve done the opposite of upward social mobility with things that they didn’t even have to work for, so people are incredulous. It’s a pretty unusual event, so is sure to garner interest. Many of their peers have kept hold of their wealth and privilege (e.g., the Beckhams) while HaM have lost everything in the space of less than two years. Doesn’t often happen, that’s all.

Is it that weird? They are the latest fascinating (and polarising) instalment in the great Windsor soap opera that, let's face it, had been pretty dull for the last decade or so. If there had been internet discussion platforms during the 80s and 90s in the heyday of Charles and Diana and Andrew and Sarah I imagine they would have had just as many people posting about them.

And it's not just Mumsnet either- there are thread after thread of discussions about them, both positive and negative, on pretty much any online platform that people who might be interested can use to post their thoughts. There was even a thread about them on a Mens' sports forum I read, where the posting community is 99.9% male!

Don’t think I’ve ever looked at or commented on a H&M thread. Couldn’t really care less about them, they don’t really affect my daily life, good luck to them I hope they find whatever happiness they are looking for.

I mean who gives a fk - you are all saddos

I am a saddo . I do wonder, though, if the RF is aware of the fact that they have people in their midst who are vocally anti-monarchy and perhaps even want to destroy it, and I wonder if HaM are aware of the dangers of this? It's edge-of-the-seat stuff.

More him actually, I'm an equal opportunities criticiser Wink
I agree with what Barley said. What makes it fascinating is their obvious contempt for the RF/institution yet an insistence on leading what looks like a royal life - keeping the titles, continuing to be funded and doing what look like royal engagements.

What’s weird is the brigade of Rottweilers that march in to defend H&M’s every move, however trite or self-serving.

Ho hum. Bring on that court case.

I don't think anyone is really interested in them on a personal level. What people are reacting to is the roles that they have been inserted into and now populate, and what these tell us about our society. Anyone could occupy the categories that M or H currently occupy (except, of course, they don't, which in itself is precisely the issue), and people would still be discussing the incumbents because of what those roles reveal about issues that really matter to people such as meritocracy, wealth distribution, inequality, etc..

Or they could just be people who hate bullying.

Not saying this is you Samcro or specifically noting anyone else, but sometimes the H&M defenders in their fervour to get their point across, can forget to be kind themselves.
Anyway. It will be interesting to see what the court case brings and what news H&M continue to provide.

Just celebrity gossip with added sparkle then.

issues that really matter to people ?

People really care that much? I don't. I'm more concerned about the way the human race is destroying the planet we live on.

Interesting? Like a real live soap opera / drama you mean?

No. No, it really won't be all that interesting.

I read the H&M threads sometimes. It’s quite interesting to see how people interpret their every word, glance and action. I have to remind myself that no one on here actually knows either of them (probably ). It’s also a bit of a disaster so it’s quite natural to wonder why they keep getting things so very wrong despite having access to very experienced advisors.

Many court cases are interesting. Not just when it's involving people in the public eye but also depending what the case is about. People will be interested in different subject matters.

For this case in particular, even people who think H&M are unfairly criticised should be interested in this case as the claim is against a newspaper for copyright and privacy issues. If the newspaper is found at fault then this will be a victory for H&M and their supporters surely? So why shouldn't people find the case interesting?
