Rescuing an old man....(with picture!)

I already have Lulu (black) & Honey (naughty tortie), both rescues 5 and 4 years old - didn't come in together, I introduced them. I've never ruled out another cat and I saw that local RSPCA (I know they get bad press but my local one is great as is Sarah, who runs it) have saved a lot of Ragdolls from a multi cat household - He is currently called Jasper, he's 10 and his beautiful fur has been cut away to get rid of the matted fur.

My other two are insured, obviously I won't be able to get him insured so will save a bit monthly.

I just want him to able to live out the rest of his years in comfort.

I've never owned a Ragdoll...any advice?

No advice but he he's gorgeous! Is 10 old for a Ragdoll? My moggie domestic shorthair is coming up to 12 and I don't think of him as old, and of course there's cozie's amazing Seniorboy!

I can't wait to meet him! Smile - From what I've read 12-15 is average for a Ragdoll.
We'll probably rename him, as Jasper is his RSPCA name - we'll see what his character is like, live with him for a while & see if a name presents itself. Although it's probably a good job we didn't do that with Honey as she'd have been called Bastard Cat Grin

Oldest Siamese I ever personally saw up for re-homing on the breed website was 19. ( His owner had died. ) I think he was there only for days before someone snaffled him. My own boy was 14 when he came to me.

10? That's near enough a teenager in my books. Grin

Wow Cozie ...19!!
I think I shall start referring to him as middle aged...there is plenty of life left in me! Grin

Hope my other two will be ok with him - will introduce him slowly, he's very laid back apparently. Off to buy another litter tray / bowl.

You should still be able to get insurance for him. He looks lovely 😻.

Thank you Yes - I shall call MoreThan & see what they can offer! I didn't think I would be able to start a new policy with him being 10

I think 10 is the cut off age for insurance policies with most companies so you should be lucky.

He's beautiful and yes to adopting an older cat. I don't think you can always get lifetime cover for over 10s but can for the annual cover.
I remember your thread when you adopted your first girl!

I've spoken to MoreThan (who insure other two) and they will give Premier Cover up to 10 years...so Pink was spot on Smile

Vino - Cats are rather like tattoos...."I'm only getting ONE" Grin Who was I kidding!

Apparently 'Jasper' was abandoned along with many other cats (all kinds of breeds) & they were in poor shape Sad

He looks a bit 'tentative' but basically kindly. Smile

Thanks Cozie - Sarah @ RSPCA said he's lovely & she wanted to keep him herself but her cats go outside & it's suggested Ragdolls don't - which suited me as mine are indoor cats.

Hopefully we'll take to each other Smile

Jasper looks lovely. One of my rescues is nearly 20 and has been with me from a very young age. He's not a ragdoll, he's a tuxedo moggie, but still going strong.

Good luck and hope your two welcome him with open paws.

Thanks all Smile DS and I went to visit him yesterday. He's HUGE Shock and the most friendly cat I have ever met, my black work trousers were white from fur and the amount of times he circled my legs, he sat for ages on DS knee rubbing his head against him & kneading....

Because I have moved since I last adopted, I have to have another home visit. Thankfully, that is being done tomorrow morning, I've already filled out paperwork and will collect Saturday all being well.

Apparently does have a strange habit of rolling in his litter tray - but only when it's clean thank god

I will rename him, but will get to know him a bit first!

We lost my oldest boy at 21 last summer (we had to have him PTS) but up to about 6mo prior he was a spritely old bugger. 10 feels very young to me. I'm always shocked when people describe their young teenage cats as 'old'.
