TartWithTheCart35 · 24/10/2017 18:41

Starts tonight at 9pm on itv.

Good for them. I'm a big girl myself and there is nothing more intimidating then sitting on a beach bursting out of my tankini whilst surrounded by super models 😞

Just being than 18 stones is not supermodel size Grin.

Good for them but they must have a lot of pain In their knees etc. It’s not healthy.

God I wondered how long the ‘it isn’t healthy’ brigade would take. Everyone knows it isn’t healthy, just because it’s relentlessly pointed out by slim people doesn’t make it easier to lose weight Hmm

Some of them seem really lovely people. I'd like to be Alison's friend.

I'm sorry her name is Alice! I misheard.

Do the people of 30 stone not just feel the dread of laying next to an 18 stone person? It's all relative

I hope it turns into a bootcamp, unless physically disabled there's no excuse for getting that big Envy

There could of course be some mental issues, MamaOfTwos.

I have a slow metabolism so I always struggle with my weight. I do try and eat well but it's just the way I'm built. That and two kids later, I will never be a slim Jim.

God some people are judgemental. Anyone who watches this and doesn't see the amount of psychological pain is blind.

Report
MamaOfTwos · 24/10/2017 21:43

Mental issues aren't aided by poor diet and lack of excercise- it's a shame people won't take accountability

Report
maxthemartian · 24/10/2017 21:46

Not as much of a shame as the judging.

AnyFucker · 24/10/2017 21:48

I am watching and having the odd little sob

I don't know why. Am not a big girl myself and neither are any of my family

I hope I don't sound patronising but they do seem like lovely, fun people and I would like them to feel happier in their own skin

There are lots of reasons people are overweight, health issues, genetics, mental health issues, laziness. But however they came to be big no one should hate themselves.

Report
RJnomore1 · 24/10/2017 21:57

They seem so uncomfortable don't they AF.

I'm sure they would rather not be that size but it's such a complicated interplay of psychological, emotional and physiological issues that gets and keeps you over weight.

Report
Ledehe · 24/10/2017 22:03

I'm big enough to be on this programme. I'm huge and unhappy with my weight but I'm not there mentally to deal with that yet.

Did you see the end credits that most of them has started to lose weight? Because they've got that confidence.

No people shouldn't be an unhealthy weight but there shouldn't be judgey fuckers on a beach staring at you either

The same old excuses pouring out on here.

“I’ve had kids” - that doesn’t render you permanently overweight.
“I have a slow metabolism” - nonsense - excercise speeds up your metabolism.
“I try to eat healthy” - Either you do or you don’t. If you don’t buy it, you can’t eat it.

The bottom line is that fringe cases aside, the vast majority of obesity is caused by eating rubbish and not excercising.

And of course not having the willpower to exert some selfcontrol and get yourself off the settee.

Kinbersnev is there something in your life that it difficult To overcome and feels
On a constant loop? It might be shouty mum, selfish friend, smoking, messy house, don't ever get the promotions at work, can't get that size 8 from being a 10, can't get into
Exercise, drinks too much wine.

Everyone has faults that seem like an impossible hurdle to overcome even when you try. Or just can't sustain it.

Some people are just mean. Maybe that's your issue Kimbers you are just mean and no matter how hard you try you are seen as mean by others too and are just plain mean and have a constant stream of mean thoughts. I'd rather be fat than mean. You'll be bitter in the end.

I think psychologically its a lot more complicated than that. That is a very simplistic view. But aside from that, they are some of the reaons not excuses

I'd rather be fat than mean Love this line!
Everyone knows this is unhealthy. of course we do. but feeling like crap and being so bereft of self esteem will make it harder for these people to lose weight, not easier.

I’m sure that in some cases, obesity can be an eating disorder in the same way as anorexia can be. Disordered eating can be a symptom of underlying poor mental health.
Who would tell a 6 stone anorexic “well it’s just not healthy, just eat more”?
I’m very lucky, I am a healthy weight. However I don’t struggle to see the difficulties some people have with losing (or gaining) weight —or the difficulties some people have with being kind— .

I thought that they were lovely genuine people. I did wonder about their health though, being that size must put a strain on their heart. In the credits at the end a couple had lost a bit of weight/started dating, so that's positive if it came from the show.

the canaries....Triggered much?

No i’m not mean, i’m just concerned for the legacy being created & the ever increasing burden on the NHS to the tune of over £12bn a year to treat type 2 diabetes and its associated health issues.

Not to mention the legacy they are creating for their children, who through no fault of their own have picked up their parents bad habits and are to be saddled with a lifetime of obesity and ill-health.
