Non flaking mascara

I love a black mascara that lengthens and thickens lashes. Unfortunately I’ve had a bad run of trying brands which just flake. My last 2 were Clinique and no 7 360 degree lashes.

Pic of my eye at 1pm today after 4 hours!!

I swear by Blinc which is a tubing mascara, it doesn't shift at all.

I love Dior mascaras. Have a look at pump n volume. Collection lash surge one is good too (and cheap!) What do you wear on your face under your eyes? e.g. foundation/ bb cream? Think some people are naturally oilier in that area which can make flaking more likely if you have bare skin/ light coverage/ cream on your face, so you could try a dab of powder underneath and see if that makes a difference? I also read somewhere about applying clear mascara to bottom lashes once your black has dried and that can create a bit of a barrier.

I’m place marking for my own interest but wanted to say what beautiful eyes you have

Eyeko Lash Alert. I have this issue too and this is the only mascara that doesn't smudge. It's the best mascara ever. £19 in M&S or Amazon.

@FreshFaceTime - I’ve read some good reviews about Dior. In the absence of spending money on anything else nice, I might have a splurge.

@Abracadabra12345 - thank you, that’s lovely. My eyes are one of my best features although not when surrounded by flaky mascara :)

I've been using the gold Maybelline one. Doesn't flake at all but is waterproof.

I've got that No 7 one atm and don't rate it for the same reasons

Lancôme Hypnose is by far my favourite and lasts ages

Max Factor 2000 calorie is also very good and much cheaper

You didn't rub your eyes? That's bad, not happened to me with Clinique their mascaras are normally good. I'm using Eyeko

@seensome no I didn’t rub, it’s rubbish isn’t it! This one is the no 7 but Clinique wasn’t much better for me.

Maybelline snapscara is good. I have trichotillomania and can't have anything flaky or clumpy or I go on a picking spree.

Roche posay mascara. Worst is Benefit they're real, but nobody else seems to have that problem!!!

I've been using Maybelline Great Lash in Very Black for the best part of 30 years, since DF used to bring it back from US business trips for me. It is the perfect mascara.

So many recommendations! Thanks all. I didn’t know La Roche Posay does mascara. I like their moisturisers.

L'Oréal Paradise mascara.

It's as good are much more expensive brands. I'm on my 5th tube of the stuff.

Gives length and volume and does not flake. Washes off with warm water.

Essentially what you need is a "tubing" mascara. It's a specific formulation and most brands make at least one.

So if there's a brand you like google Clinique/Number7 tubing mascara for example and you'll get the results of which mascara on the range use this technology.

I could have written this post up till last summer. I never found a mascara that didn’t flake or smudge, I must have spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds over the years. I have your holy grail and it’s really cheap think about £6.00 a tube. I’ve bought it in bulk in case it gets discontinued. The answer to your problem is L’Oréal Double extension beauty tubes. It has a primer at one end and colour at the other. Primer first then colour no need to wait. Good luck.

Explanation of tubing mascaras courtesy of Sali Hughes in the Guardian (and who tipped me off about tubing mascaras in the first place).

"Instead of the usual waxes and dyes, they coat each lash in a polymer tube, drying quickly and staying securely in place until warm water causes them to swell and slide off before bed."

Thanks all, much appreciated. Feeling like I’ve missed a trick by not investigating tubing mascaras before.

Have you added a touch of powder under your eyes? I find that my mascara can smudge more if I don't.

I'm a smudger, not a flaker, so this might not be helpful, but I find Lancome mascaras are the best. I love Monsieur Big, the waterproof version, and recently got a small size of the new Idole mascara which is really good. I wear contact lenses so tend to rub at my eyes more than I should.
