Video interview what to wear

I have a video interview on Monday for an internal promotion. We’ve had guidance to just wear what we would wear for an in person interview. If I was in the office I’d wear black pencil skirt, a blouse and a jacket but a jacket seems weird sitting in a room at home. I have this www.marksandspencer.com/satin-long-sleeve-shirt/p/clp60461153?extid=ps_ps-bpla_ggl_ww_ch__-UK-_-_grow&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI37ntm_aR7QIVlRh7Ch3bFwEaEAQYASABEgIFvPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and a black skirt. Not sure what it will look like on video though. I spoke to someone who had their interview last week and they were smart on their top half with pyjamas on the bottom but I need to do the whole outfit or will feel weird.
Not sure how smart to actually go!

I think that shirt looks great. With the right accessories it can look very polished without the need for a blazer. But without accessories it could look plain.
Weirdly I’m obsessed with people backgrounds at the mo and outfits pass me by. Don’t have a distracting one with too much going on, and IMO don’t use the blur feature as it is also distracting when it temporarily breaks or removes an ear.

I agree about the backgrounds particularly when bits of people disappear into it. Fortunately I have a home office and the wall behind me is plain so I don’t usually use a background so that’s one less thing to worry about.

I asked for same advice in summer.
I was advised that a top with a collar, in darker/bright colours looks better. I wore a white top for my first interview. IRL it’s really smart. But combined with the sun steaming through the window at exactly the wrong time, you could barely see my face.
Pencil skirt is probably overkill, as they won’t see it, but I’d it helps you get in the right mindset then wear it.
I’m undecided on the jacket. On one hand it says you made an effort, on the other hand it might look a bit weird sitting in your house with a jacket on.

I’m going to ditch the jacket and stick with the blouse. There is a window next to me and the sun does shine in and look weird on camera so will be messing about with the curtain beforehand to make sure that doesn’t happen. I think teams has a test feature that you can use to try out your set up. I do use teams all the time but don’t usually care what I look like!

I have that shirt in navy. It's useful and I wear it with small gold earrings and a thin gold necklace when I have an 'important' zoom call.

I bought the blouse in March and haven’t worn it yet as have been working at home since then so it has the feel of something new and a bit dressed up. I can’t wait for the whole thing to be over with I’m at the why am I doing this and do I even want to be promoted stage!

Good luck! I rarely wear shirts out and about as i fiddle around tucking etc. but find they work better on screen than my other tops.

I had an internal job interview a couple of weeks ago and wore a dark patterned dress and a jacket. I wouldn't have worn the dress for a normal interview as I struggle with what shoes to wear with it but it worked really well for a video interview.

I did consider a navy fitted dress that I have 2gorgeousboys but it rides up in an annoying way when I sit down. Obviously that won’t show but it might be distracting!

How did it go @NiceCardigan?

It was quite tough with lots of probing questions but think it was mostly ok. I’m now torturing myself with “should have saids” while having a glass of wine!

When will you hear back?

They said in the interview that I’d hear back in the first week in December and that there is space for 30 promotions. Does that mean that it will be the first week that has a day in December or the first full week in December. Who knows! And I don’t know how many people were interviewed so the 30 is a bit meaningless. The whole process has been a bit chaotic and the timetable has been extended twice. The first time was when the timed assessment was sent out too early so a different one needed to be drafted and the second time when the interview booking system broke.

A random email will arrive at some time in early December is all I know.
