How to not look like a bag of potatoes in a jumper...

Can anyone tell me the secret?

I'm a size 12-14 bottom half with slim legs and a 14-16 top. Anything even vaguely jumper-y makes me look huge and shapeless on top, so paired with skinny jeans (which is literally all I have to wear) I look way out of proportion.

Is there a trick or a certain cut that could help me out? Any advice most welcome...

Batwing!

I'm the same shape as you and because they narrow at the hips but are wider immediately above it hides lumps, bumps and muffin tops nicely. Because they are supposed to be triangley shaped I don't feel as out of proportion.

Phase Eight have some good quality ones in the sale at the moment

Same problem but I am 5,1 and jumpers just swamp me and the new style short ones look ridiculous as I don’t want to be a twenty year old but also don’t want to feel drowned in wool.

I also look like spongebob in a jumper.

I think a v neck is the only style that helps or a pattern that gives the illusion of a v neck.

V-neck all the way, and vaguely tailored

If I wear high neck jumpers I look like I have a very matronly bosom

Uniqlo fine merino in a dark colour, reasonably fitted and worn over a shirt.

I find belting my jeans and doing a French tuck of the jumper always helps, roll the sleeves up too.

Otherwise I think pick more lightweight fabrics, avoid a high neck or a boxy cut, try a v neck and take it off the shoulder a little.

I also find 'bulking out' my lower half by way of chunky boots helps balance the skinny jeans with a heavier knit combo.

Definitely finer knit, no cable knit, baggy, oversized numbers. I’m going to see how long I can go not wearing jumpers to work at all this winter. Cardigans are much more flattering

I'm just not a cardigan person. I don't like the look of them done up and they're kind of pointless open...

I guess I'll have to stick to thin jumpers then. Typical when all I want is a nice thick cable knit affair to snuggle up in! Might get one of those for at home alone though as a treat!

You can wear thicker jumpers but the trick is to wear them baggy, mid thigh in length at least in a boxy shape. Wear slim leg jeans to balance out proportions or wear with skinny ones with boots that are chunky and not tight to the leg.

A good bra which fits well is the first thing.
I would then suggest v-neck (or wear a long necklace) and step away from very chunky knits.

I have bought a cable knit cardigan. It is long, with a wide collar, buttons, and a tie belt, and looks fine when I belt it tightly and leave the top few buttons undone. Will need a scarf and thermals though!

this: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0777148001.html

is a similar shape to one that works really well for me, wool/alpaca so super cosy but a loose knit and doesn't add bulk. i like a wide neck too. my legs and neck are relatively skinny you can't see the bits inbetween :D

| was about to suggest a different bra, but a PP has said it for me. It can make a vast improvement.
