Flaky Nail Help

What can be done? Paper thin, always have been. Surprisingly they were less prone to flake when I was vegetarian but that was in my 20s so maybe my body just worked better generally.

Approaching 50, nails getting worse and worse (peri). I usually paint them so don't notice but I'd really like to stope the flake.

Any advice?

Is it all of them? I had just one for all my life. I thought 'that's just how it is'. Turns out it was fungal and now looks miles better after treatment

Someone once told me (who had the most amazingly strong long perfect nails) to eat a cube of jelly everyday. I was skeptical but tried it anyway and it did the trick for me! I stopped eating the jelly once I felt my nails had improved and still to this day they are miles stronger and in much better condition. Good luck!

I use Vaseline on my nails at bedtime. They are very strong but supple so that if they are caught they bend and don't break whilst doing every day things. Just a small dab and quick rub in. Stops hangnails too!

You can also use olive oil but personally I find it too greasy.

My nails have always been strong but last few months they are flakey. Peri too. I have started using Mavela Straightener on tips. Works almost straightaway. Completely matte so you can polish on top. Twice a week application. Dries fast. Need to make sure you apply on tip only- not on skin or cuticle, I assume because they would become rock hard too. Recommend. Check out reviews on Amazon.

Yes, all of them usually. I am shit at putting on rubber gloves etc but even so. Have heard about the cube of jelly too. Have tried strengtheners and rubbing oils in but that only makes them look ok for a few days and then it's back to mank.

What's ibx? 12 week treatment, surely that's how long it takes to grow a whole new nail.

I have very strong toenails (are the sucking the strength out if my fingernails?) And really good condition hair so can't be dietary can it?

IBX is a professional only treatment done in salons, the results are astonishing though. Good housekeeping did a review on it.

Jelly’s 60% sugar and hardly any protein.

Some people just have thin nails. Solar oil helps because it makes the nail mechanically stronger by filling the oil channels up. Not wearing gloves when using cleaning chemicals with detergents designed to break down fats/oils is a bit silly.

I put shellac on my mil, told her to let me know when she wanted it off but she softened it with turps and picked it off. The nail literally fell off in chunks until I did my IBX course & applied it to her nails. One treatment fixed all her damage. I don’t do her nails now.

I'll look into ibx. But why 12 weeks if your MIL needed one treatment?

Everyone reacts differently to products. One treatment and I can feel my nails are stronger, used all the time they tighten up and go a lovely shape. They don’t break at all until nearly a centimetre long, which isn’t practical.

Plus I put two layers of the repair on her which you wouldn’t do on a client coming for strengthening, you’d do one of repair. She didn’t need strengthening necessarily she needed her nails to stop flaking.
