How to choose glasses colour?

TheEndOfTheBottle · 22/03/2018 15:38

I have the choice of dark green/anthracite or a reddish brown frames.

DH is absolutely no help.
DD likes the dark green
DS likes the reddish brown.
FIL likes the dark green, MIL the brown.
I don't particularly like either

I suppose the dark ones will go better with all colours?

you KNOW we need pictures.

I mean if you have a green face and pink troll hair it's going to influence our opinions.

I match to my eyes and skin tone. I currently have a pair of dark tortoiseshell glasses- brown eyes, medium to olive skin with yellow undertones. And I have a pair of dark red/mahogany colour frames to match my (dyed) hair. Silver, blues and greens don’t suit my skin tone.

Have you tried the spec savers app? You can try glasses on there and save the pics

I think the green- matches the flecks in your eyes. The pink suit you too if you wanted a more stand out pair

Pair of glasses I mean!

Definitely the dark green thought both shades suit your colouring

I think the red suit your colouring more.

But if you don't particularly like either pair, I'd keep looking for something else. You don't want to wear something on your face every day that you don't really like.

That's it. That's my choice :( They've already ordered in all the frames they can find, I refused all the ones they had in the opticians!

they are both fine colourwise actually, but that squoval metal style is a bit dated...you want to go a bit more geek.

Lots of lovely tortoiseshell stuff about, often with colour banding for a bit of difference

have a look online, Glasses direct will send you frames to try on, and I think they have a virtual try on system too.

My friend has your colouring and looks amazing in green frames! Think they are quite similar to these ones www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/km-46?sku=30373747

Both lovely.
Unhelpful I know. Sorry.

Both suit you, I think the green look more neutral, and the red a bit more dramatic.

I'm currently trying to decide between gold or silver coloured frames, so you have my sympathies.

What do you mean by more geek MsHomeSlice? She did offer me black plastic frames and some more fashionable rounder ones. I asked her to calculate the lens size, she came back and said 7mm, laughed and said she wouldnt wear them either! Narrow ones are out of fashion, so those are my only choice.

for example from the specsavers site

cath kidston 08 or 09
converse 26 or 33
lots of nice Karen Millens too

if you need them to be a bit smaller because of your prescription then the teen ranges can be a good place to look.

Something like Ralelene, Alexa or Taupe from Specsavers own range are far more fashionable. I think narrow little glasses are dated.

What is a 7 mm lens size? Thick? Most decent glssses can accommodate standard lenses and no lenses are 7 mm! The size of the frame doesn’t affect this. As far as I’ve been told anyway.

You actually really do suit both colours and neither look very garish so either would be ok.
What colours do you wear most of?
I have green ones but I absolutely love the green the shade.
I have chosen neutral ones before for the sake of it and they are not really me go for something you love rather than what looks ok.

The larger the frame, the wider the lenses will be at the edges. If I take a fashionable model, the lenses would be 7mm thick at the edges.

Bubbles thanks but the frames of those are too large and I would look like I have, well, look at my user name. Same for those converse ones MsHomeSlice.

I tend to wear blues, (greens not so much), greys, orange or brown, very occasionally a bit of pink.

You need to find out if you have cool based or warm based skin tones. Then match your spec colours to that.

I've got cool based skin so l tend to go for silver frames. Current ones have bits of pink on them, and l had a fab pair of Tiffany ones that were turquoise and silver.

Best rule of thumb is: if they are correct for you, they shouldn't be a focal point of your face, but rather blend in with it. And another one is that the frames should sort of follow your eyebrow shape.

Both look really nice, so a nice choice to have to make.

I agree that Geek glasses are popular, but so are cats eye shape and 50's shaped ones.

I look like a 1980's game show host in Geek glasses so opted for the 50's styling.

I prefer the green/anthracite on you.

My current ones are brown and kind of blend in with me so I find the reddish ones too red. I don't like red so I think that's why I think they look weird. And the dark ones look weird because they're dark and I've had my brown ones so long!

I think the dark green ones suit you best. The purple ones look OK, but the green ones bring out the hazel tones of your eyes.
