Is this too "sexy/slinky" for inlaw party

Just that. I'd wear this dress with tights or leggings .My (much more "posh" inlaws) have a Xmas party every year and thanksgiving, I'm the youngest adult there so is this just too much? I really like it

Sorry couldn't resist. I would find out what type of party it is and what everyone else is wearing. Are they expecting eveningwear/ black tie type clothes or just a nice outfit. That dress is a but too short and clingy.

I love it, I wore something similar to a party at the weekend where I was the youngest person there.
Wore it with thick, black tights and over the knee boots.

You should maybe wear it as a top with some skinny jeans and heels for the party.
Wear it as a dress another time.
It’s quite dear though for what it is, but it may be lovely in real life.

I'm possibly the MIL's age and I like it though perhaps effect would be wasted as I'd suggest keeping it hoiked up to cover bare shoulders, "Are you warm enough?"

I think it's fine as long as it's worn with thick tights and flat-ish boots (not over the knee) and with the top part on the shoulders rather than off - I think it looks much classier that way.

I think it would just about be OK if you're very, very short (so that it would be a lot longer on you than on the model). But otherwise, no - it's more "night on the town" than "sherry with the in-laws" to me!

Was about to say the same as whyte; I think you'd get away with it if you are very petite (height-wise) and wear it with thick tights as you say. If you're tall though, I'd definitely give it a miss. I am tall and (formerly) skinny (currently pregnant and I hadn't even shifted the weight from dc1 before I fell pregnant with this one) and I remember feeling way too exposed and awkward in short dresses at in-law events. My in-laws are mainly short and mainly wankers though. Yours probably aren't!

I have a gorgeous merino jumper from aritizia which has the same neckline as that dress, it would look great with jeans/trousers and heels, much more grown up. I think that dress is more the sort of thing you'd wear clubbing to be honest. It's short and clingy but also casual I think. It's a definite no from me. There are so, so many other nicer dresses out there.
