Opinions on H&M's new shop - Arket?

It's online now (as a "preview" nonsense) here:
www.arket.com/en_sek/index.html (hope link works)

Some nice things, but poorly designed webshop.

I've been looking about online and the pictures I have seen look promising. Although I think it was on the Vogue website where the preview consisted of the collar of a shirt or the hem of a dress. Show me the full thing!

It's ok. I agree the website is hard to use. Prices seem ok too.

I'd like to visit a shop to see the clothes in person. I think the focus seems to be on the fabric quality.

Yes, all the models are very lanky so hard to tell how the clothes really fit 😉 Not enough information in the garment descriptions either, no measurements for example. But the qualities look promising.

Looks nice, but I can't really see how it's different to Cos. May be different in the flesh of course.

banivani · 23/08/2017 21:52

Yeah I don't really see the difference either - it looks really similar and the prices are similar too.

Arket means "the sheet" in Swedish, as in a sheet of paper. Not sure what they mean by that though 🤔

I ordered a few things, some home things, underwear, these trousers (I liked the colour and pocket detail, not sure on the fabric though but will reserve judgement till it arrives) and a heavy weight tee which looks promising. Returns and exchanges appear to be a lot less hassle than with Cos and H&M so I was willing to risk buying somewhat blind with the current 20% off promo and free shipping over €150.

Was a pain to find a decent size chart though, sizes look to be cut smaller than the sister brands so I'll be curious to see how it pans out. Noticed a fair bit of discrepancy between the prices as the website kept switching out between SEK, EUR, and GBP as it loaded. EUR to GBP looked to be one to one and I'm not sure what the current SEK exchange rate is (it went down significantly if memory serves) but it wasn't too far off either but I think it may just come out cheapest in EUR.

A sheet of paper? Blank everyday object very familiar to us all that can be the basis of great things and catalyst to the imagination... something wanky along those lines surely. I'm sure some creative agency earned a lot of money with that one...

I can't open any of it

It says 'Access denied'.

It knows I'm not minimalist enough.

Still can't see a way to the preview and I'm finding the all the Instagram coyness quite annoying. Either show me the clothes or don't show me but please stop batting your eyelashes at me.

There was a link on their home page a couple of days ago where you could register to get the preview but I think they must have taken it down.

I am now pissed off with them and they haven't even opened yet.

(But all will be forgiven if the clothes are good.)

This is the link in my email, tr.anpdm.com/track?t=c&mid=19486179&uid=1151889583&&&https%3A%2F%2Fwww.arket.com%2Fpreshop%3Futm_campaign%3Dunspecified%26utm_content%3Dunspecified%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_source%3Dnewsletter ;) Maybe you can look anyway. Mind, the photos aren't spectacularly detailed. On a scale of 1-10 of webshops, where we'll put Zara as a 3 (because, well, there ARE photos I suppose) and 10 is... I don't know if I've ever come across the perfect webshop? Let's say Boden, because let's face it, it's easy to navigate etc - anyway Arket might be MIGHT BE a 5. Maybe.

Knew I'd find Botemp and Floisme here haha. I'm pleased they offer free returns too. Considering buying the jeans now with discount, but dithering because I'm pretty sure they'll be too small/won't fit and I'll just have to return. :/

Grin I am so predictable! Thanks bani that link works and I've now subscribed.

I do think they'd be better off spending less money on annoying marketing tricks and more on a decent website, especially as they're never in a million years going to open a branch where I am.

Psst welcome code was WELCOME hth ;)

I don't know what H&M's aversion to decent webshops is. Mind, they rake in the money anyway. More fools us I suppose.

Ha, you know me bani, a mere whiff of anything Scandi (or cardamom for that matter) and I'm all over it Grin I hadn't looked at the jeans as I've just bought a bunch but they look really good, I like the look of the Selvedge ones with the little reverse detail on the ankle. Look like a good staple model but am annoyed that they can do Organic cotton for Weekday and Monki for that kind of money but not here, where they're all about fabric? Which ones were you thinking about?

I think with H&M it's always been a bit of an issue that they're too big to run an effective web shop without diverting a massive amount of investment and operating a standalone e-commerce powerhouse like Asos, Zalando, Net-A-Porter, etc. which are all web based only. Ikea has the same issue, they've been so tentative and useless over the years with their e-commerce venture I've stopped buying from them altogether as they'd never have everything I needed online and I just can't be bothered to experience seven circles of hell go to the store for a few items.

I didn't really have issues with the Arket site aside from some loading issues which I assumed were down to traffic but who knows. It is following an annoying trend though of being designed for mobile and touch screens rather than desktop. I thankfully recognised the functionality of the drop down menu quick enough (and in all fairness it works well once you've spotted it and I particularly like being able to filter items by the country where the items are made) and then it works very intuitively but far more likely in generations that grew up with that as the dominant technology. They seriously risk alienating their more likely target audience who probably still remember /dos/ vaguely (or at the very least the early incarnations of Windows) which still somewhat determine how they approach a computer (less intuitive and more code based demanding a bit of order and ease of overview).

I think from the H&M stable the Weekday website is the best, they give very specific measurements on the models (more than just height) on things that are fitted in style. Lots of pictures too and decent search criteria, they just do that unfortunate thing of cutting models' heads off. Monki is the one I struggle with and am majorly conflicted about at the same time. I so applaud them for using various models of different sizes, shapes, and heights but it makes it a bit tougher to zone in on whether something would work for me especially since they're already a bit bonkers in the sizing department and a lot of their clothes can make you look substantially bigger than you are.

I was looking at the straight indigo ones - I like dark jeans and can't find any, not helped my 90 % of jeans being washed out faded and ripped atm grr. I'm at the very top of their sizing though so have no idea. I fit fine into Cos even though I shouldn't. ;) I'd like some all cotton jeans but without stretch fit becomes reallllllly important. I'd ideally like them quite high and hourglass suitable (not that I really am one but hey ho) - this seems impossible to find.

Incidentally a colleague just stuck her head in my door to chat and in the chat said I was "slim" hahhahaha I die. ;)

Agree that Weekday's site is better, disagree that Monki's models are so diverse? Anyway I think Monki is a bit useless and more importantly I buy nothing from them because my kids wear it haha and I don't want to be the mum who dresses like her children :P

Made-for-mobile websites are the bane of my life. I find them so hard to navigate on a computer, does it have to be so hard?

Still haven't committed to buying anything.

Hmm, you may be right on Monki. Just had a look again, I could've sworn the last time there were a few models on there that would be their largest sizes. Still somewhat diverse in ethnicity and they do all appear to be around the 1m70 mark rather than the usual 1m75+ elsewhere. I know what you mean about Monki, I always feel like an interloper there but they have some gems hidden away between the cutesy teen stuff, the website should be the ideal place for me to shop with them but I guess I'm too old school for that too...

Can't do 100% Cotton jeans at all myself (proper hourglass), I only really started wearing jeans once they started adding stretch to them, then had to stop when it was all skinnies all the time as they were just too stretchy and gave me thunder thighs.

I'm not sure on the Arket sizes, their sizing guide makes them appear to fit smaller than COS but I know they have similar size guidelines/measurements at H&M and they're not accurate there at all. It may be more in line with &Other Stories sizing but since everything appears to be cut quite relaxed you may just get away with it?

Report
banivani · 24/08/2017 20:31

Right? Sizing is a joke. Other stories doesn't fit me, Hennes is a bit hit and miss, Cos fairly good. Am considering the merino trousers coz those two days of winter when it's -20 I always really want a pair 😬

Ok stopped being grumpy now and had a bit of a look. Didn't see anything that wouldn't look totally at home in Cos but as long as the clothes are good, I don't care how they're branded. Quite like the way the focus is on the clothes, not the models: no weird poses, no simpering, no puppies. Won't be rushing out to order but will def keep an eye on them. A lot will depend on whether the quality's as good as they're claiming and that's impossible to tell without seeing and trying on.

I think the market is saturated.
It all looks like uniqlo and cos and other stories.
Website was irritating.
I may go to the shop if I am wondering by.

It's the most irritating website I've seen.

Also, I had "access denied" pop up yesterday.
Can't be arsed with all that, there are similar companies without the wankery out there.
