I'm not so much pink toned as blue....

Have always tried to warm my complexion with yellow/peachy toned foundation but now, it's starting to make me look a bit Donald Trump! What should I be going for. Have read many recommendations for Healthy Mix Foundation but again, they're yellow toned.

Should we all be yellow toned? Am lost and nearly 55 so want to (finally) get it right, without looking half dead and in need of a blood transfusion. Please, help!!!

I think you look lovely!

However if you think you're cool toned rather than warm then look for cool based foundations (I use bare minerals and they state warm or cool, I'm super pale so use bare porcelain) and pink blushers rather than peaches and (at least for me) no bronzer.

Warming yourself with foundation is a hiding to nothing. I'm also bordering on blue and I wear foundations with a pink undertone. If you want to add colour do it with blush or bronzer.
For me good foundations come from lancome, nars, hourglass and urban decay who do both very pale and cool tones.

Thanks. Am off to town this afternoon and will try to get some samples. We don't have much of a selection but, I'll see if I can try a cool/pink toned type. It might be a revelation.... I've spent my entire adult life fighting my natural colouring and trying to make it something it's not! I may find myself feeling a whole lot more comfortable in my makeup 😊

Make up counter staff will often try and get
me to choose a warm yellow tone to 'balance' the pink but I look so much better with a cool toned colour. I'm using Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in the shade Beige Rose which is a great match and cooler tones than many of their shades - lovely natural non shiny but not flat finish too. I've had a good match with L'Oréal infallible before too but can't remember the shade number.

Oh yes, make it clear you want a match not warmed up! Pale shades are lancome 005 in their tient idole 24hr, 005 in urban decay, br10 in ysl. They may be too light but it might help you to detect the undertone if you look at them.

I am a pink -blue shade too and have always been told at make up counters to go for yellow undertones. I bought one MAC pink undertone foundation in the past and ended up throwing it out. Perhaps you are wearing the wrong shade rather than the wrong undertones?

You're supposed to go for a foundation which matches as closely as possible, including undertone. Often makeup counters try to warm you up, partly due to lack of knowledge and sometimes due to lack of availability of cool tones

Try no 7 colour matching. You can ask for a small sample to take home so you can be 100% sure before you buy.

Agree with No 7. Mine (cool Ivory) looks almost grey when it comes out of the tube but matches my skin perfectly. Anything tan/ bronze just looks odd

I third No. 7 - I have just been in and been colour matched (I actually have two matches bizarrely - Calico and Cool Vanilla) and for the first time ever I have a foundation which is a real match to my skin and tone (I was given a generous sample of each one to try so I could pick which one I preferred).

I watched an interview with Bobbi Brown who said everybody should wear yellow undertones.

For me, if I wear a pink undertone, it doesn't take down my red/blue tones, probably adds to them in reality.

Yes, well, Bobbi Brown does not have my skin tone. Any yellow undertones makes me look jaundiced.

Yellow undertones look horrific on me too. I suspect Bobbi Brown hasn't had much experience of super pale blue Celtic skin though.

Yup, most makeup artists think Bobbi's bonkers on that one. If you have areas of redness then the best thing is to use a green toned primer before foundation - I don't use it all over but useful for spots or red patches, visible veins, hints of rosacea etc.

I'm naturally Celtic pale with dark hair and blue eyes. Treated myself at the Chanel counter at Fenwicks in York recently and the lovely lady there suggested their new blusher - bright pink- looks amazing on and like you've just been out in the fresh air (without the rabbity pink nose). Loads of compliments on how well rested/ healthy I look. Love it.

I wear quite bright blushers too. I was at Bobbi Brown counter to get foundation and blush for my much darker and warmer toned mum and while I was there I spotted a little palette of two blushers, both quite "pink", one more pale but blue undertone and the other quite strong. My mum walks over and goes "Oh that's vile, who would wear those colours?!" at which point I swatch one of them on my cheek, look in a mirror and go "ME"

Limited shade range is often a reason why certain makeup brands (Chanel, Bobbi Brown for example) are trying to push you the wrong shade.

I'm neutral/cool and I can recommend Revlon Colorstay in Ivory (go darker if you must but pick matching pinky shades) and the palest shade of Max Factor Facefinity compact foundation. Both are a tad too pink on me but totally different from the liver disease lookalike shades that Chanel and Bourjois offer

I recommend NARS. Have a similar skin tone to you. I use their sheer glow foundation in shade Mont Blanc. It's described on their website as light with pink undertone.

And I agree with others, when I tried Bobbi brown, I just looked as though I had a yellow face!

Bobbi Brown are very anti cool tones. I wasn't at all impressed when their saleswoman said "we need to correct the pink in your skin". Although I'm actually more towards neutral than really cool, I want my foundation to match me, thank you.

I sound like a huge supporter of BB. I used their products fifteen years ago before switching to G. Armani and now Mac. I am as pale as pale can be (red hair and pale skin that blushes easily and is just short of blushing!). I wear NC Mac (advised by so many sales counters in various countries). At one stage I bought NW myself as was convinced I 'should' be NW but threw it out after a couple of shades. I use NARS orgasm blush which is pink. I guess there isn't a standard warm or cool without individual assessment.

Having foundation a few shades darker than your natural complexion to give you some colour is very ageing. My DM is 60 and I'm still trying to wean her off this, I've managed to get her down to 2 shades darker than what she should wear - which is better than the 5 shades darker before!

I have cool-toned, pale pink skin and found NARS, No 7, MakeUp ForEver, Laura Mercier and Armani all to have very good matches for my skin. LM and Armani in particular are my go-tos.

Bobbi Brown Slopes is a great pink blush for cool-toned, pale skin as is Barry M Raspberry. Bobbi Brown do a great matte bronzer in different shades to add a bit of colour.

Years ago I couldn't work out at all why a Bobbi brown foundation made my face look grubby. It was because it was yellow toned and I am very cool toned. It took me years to figure it out!
