All mascara smudges - even waterproof!

I have no idea why this keeps happening but even when I wear waterproof mascaras (upper lashes only) recommended online by many other people, mine always seems to end up slightly smudged in the outer eye-bag area beneath my eye.

I don't rub my eyes through the day so does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening. Could my under eye concealer be to blame somehow or am I just odd?

(I have a similar problem with waterproof eyeliners, again upper lashes only)!

I had this problem until I started using a tubing mascara. Currently use loreal's double ended one (with the white stuff you put on first) that's in a red tube. Not at home otherwise I'd tell you the exact name!

I have the problem. I only use waterproof, wouldn't even contemplate anything else. I still end up with smudgy eyes Angry

I don't use concealer very often but if I do, I make sure I pat powder on top otherwise I end up with smudgy mascara. Seems to work for me.

Same here until I started using tuning mascara about a year ago on the advice of someone on here... I use the Clinique one, it's been great... that reminds me, I need to stock up!

I use L'Oréal tubing mascara too. I'll be honest, I don't love the finished look as much as I do from other mascaras but other mascaras will always end up giving me panda eyes so....

The L'Oréal mascara does not budge. Amazing

Yes yes to tubing mascara. I have never worn it as it always smudges. I am not in UK but every seems to rave about the boots one. I use the L'Oréal double ended red one.

Have you tried No 7 mascara in the gold tube? It's the only one I've ever found that doesn't smudge on me.

No solution for the eyeliner though eyelid primers and powder before applying is supposed to help but I've not explored this yet but I feel your pain

I posted a few years ago about the same problem and was told to buy tubing mascara I bought the No7 gold tube and have never looked back it's amazing.

Have you tried Urban Decay's Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara? It works for me --- was originally designed for surfers

This is great, thank you! Will try out the tubing stuff (never heard of it before). Smile

Any other tips for eyeliner smudging? Gel ones are usually OK but sometimes I want more of a pencil look on top and bottom.

Do you have deep-set or hooded eyes? I do and mascaras and eye pencils smear - and I never rub my eyes (and I use eye products only on my upper lids). Tubing mascaras really work, they stay put.

Thanks Frustrated yes I guess my lids are fairly heavy, but also my lashes are long so I do wonder if they are just flickering against the skin underneath and mixing with oil in my concealer etc.

I am definitely going to try the tips out.

Do you have an issue with eyeliner?

Can't wear winged eye liner (wrong eye shape) but eye pencil worn as upper liner and tightlined smudge horribly. These days I use wet eye shadow, it stays on better and the smudginess looks intentional.

Try making a video using the camera on your phone of what happens when you move your eyes and flutter your lashes - I could see that my upper lid is like a sliding door, the lashes and lid and eye socket are constantly touching.

Yes, yes, yes to tubing mascara. I like the Clinique curling one best then the gold No 7 one. I also use wet eyeshadow to line as I started to find all pencil eyeliner strayed. I think it's as I've got older my upper eyelids have started to droop a bit Blush

And if you wonder why I am not wearing winged liner, this is the best-case scenario what it looks like on hooded eyes (eyes not mine!). Fairly tricky to draw and strong liner makes my small eyes look even smaller.

I use Liz Earle mascara. All others leave me with panda eyes by lunchtime but not LE. Worth considering.

I completely agree about tubing mascaras - life changing! I used to have panda eyes by lunchtime everyday - now my favourite combo is Clinique High Impact Waterproof (green tube) with Clinique Bottom Lash mascara on lower lashes (sounds like a waste of time but it's great!).

For going out, I like Urban Decay eye primer (purple tube), then Prestige liquid liner which is only about a fiver

I stopped using moisteriser and serums in the morning. Mascara would slip straight off if they hadn't had time to sink in.
