do I pluck my eyebrows too much?? (hideous pic)

I am blonde and fair skinned but have dark eyebrows. Used to have a bushy monobrow when a teenager, felt self conscious and started plucking eyebrows at 16. Been doing it for last 20 (gulp!) years without thinking but now wondering if it's really ugly? Occasionally try to grow them out but lose courage at horrible stubbly stage and pluck them madly! What should I be doing?

I think they do look a little thin, yes. It does depend on your face shape though, which obviously we can't see. That said, I don't think really thin eyebrows suit anyone really.

A good quality eyebrow pencil is your friend here. Go lighter than you think you need to. Maybe go to a counter (not mac or similar, or you might end up with a scouse brow Confused ) and get them to show you how you should be applying it.

I think they are a little thin, but difficult to say and these things are so subjective.
Depending on where you live and what's available locally I suggest growing them for as long as you can, then visiting a good/recommended threading place (where I live I found the best people are at Asian beauty salons but shop around). A good threader will be able to advise you about shape, thickness etc and the right shape for your face can really make a difference - like an eye-lift without Botox or surgery. Once you are happy with the shape you can pluck to maintain the shape at home so you don't have to cough up too often.

I think they're definitely too thin, yes. And you can't really see their natural shape, which is rarely a good thing. 20 years ago they were probably absolutely perfect though, fashions change.

I second Love2dance's suggestion. You need to let them grow. Be strong! I bet nobody even notices if they get a little tufty anyway.

They don't look dark to me - they look like the same colour as your hair.

I think they are too thin and I don't think the shape of them is good either.

I would suggest letting them grow and get them tinted as it does look like there are some very light hairs. Don't get them tinted any darker than your hair colour as it might be too dark for you.
I personally went to a professional to get them to do the best shape for my face, and then I have maintained it since by plucking only the stray hairs.

I'd say over plucked, but difficult to judge as you are so fair. Definitely not hideous or ugly though.

the only way to see is to grow them and then have them done.

Yes. It looks like you've plucked from the bottom up leaving just the outline of the top the brows.

It looks very amateur, I'm sorry. It's not symmetrical either.

I would suffer letting them grow back and let a professional do it.

Too thin.

Yes, you pluck them too much, especially at the nose end. You don't need to try and change the shape of them, just tidy up any stragglers at the tail end.

They look very rounded.
Best thing to do is grow them out for at least 4 weeks but preferably more and have them threaded or waxed.
For the best shape you want them completely grown out so some bits aren't stubbly.
Tell them you want a more natural, thicker shape.
It's hard to tell as I don't know what will grow in or if you have bald areas but you don't have a particularly square arch so a shape like this will prob be what you can grow and have shaped.

Yes but all is not lost!
Good eyebrows will make you look much better

Get your Dennis Healy on and use a pencil in the meanwhile to start to get used to a more defined and stronger look. Build up but stop far from the black cleopatra brows of doom
Once you have some brows go somewhere excellent for your shaping. Ask around. Check Yelp. If you see someone with great brows ask where they go.

You'll look madly younger and better

Massively over plucked, sorry.

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago, so went to an HD Brows specialist to sort them out.

The reason I went for the HD Brows was because they work to get a shape that suits your face and that you're happy with.
You basically hand over control of your eyebrows for a few months and don't touch them yourself!!
They will grow back in again, and the regular appointments will keep the regrowth neat and nicely shaped.

HD Brows are not the horribly dark massive brows that everyone likes to screech about, so don't worry about that.

Just grow them out and start from there. I got over threaded by someone a few weeks ago. Far too thin and I haven't touched them since to try and get them back.

Sorry but have to agree with above posters. Leave them alone!!!!

Try out some softer powder/ pencil shaping to get used to a more normal eyebrow shape. Maybe even try the stencil thingies and see the difference.

When they have grown out then visit a pro

Thank you all for the advice! Am growing them out ... It's only been a week and I am having to restrain my need to reach for the tweezers! The little hairs growing through are so itchy too!
Have never done anything in terms of eyebrow pencilling etc. Any recommendations of what to buy? Any good tutorials on YouTube?
Also, do you need to wear more/less eye make up when you have more defined brows??
Am very ignorant of all this!

HELP! Brows are growing back so uneven and all bushy in the wrong places! Can't look in the mirror and am so worried what people think. Am incredibly self conscious. Do I have to wait it out or can I salvage them now? It's about 2 weeks' growth.

Haha!
Growing out brows is horrific, isn't it?!

You're fine, nobody else will notice, only you.
You could try just a little bit of powder slightly darker than your own brow colour to define an eyebrow shape but DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH THE TWEEZERS!!!

Just a few more weeks and then go off to someone good with brows & get a good shape threaded in.
I'd 100% recommend going to an HD Brows beautician as they give you a personalised shape perfect for your own face.

You're doing really well to have left them Smile

Leave them alone!

They may look a bit stubbly now but it will be worth it in the long run. Will be SO much more flattering than those skinny little eyebrows you began with.

Report
JingsAndCrivens · 01/05/2016 14:11

And yes, once they've grown a bit more go to a beauty therapist to have them threaded and tinted. No offence, but you're clearly not to be trusted with your own eyebrows Grin

Leave them alone.
I was the same plucked mine like made.
Rub castor oil into them at night leave on overnight a wash off in the morning.
Once they have grown back gey them threaded
Best thing i ever did was grow them back.

Honestly OP they look better already. Once they've filled out they'll be fine.

Report
Clarkgriswoldforever · 01/05/2016 14:29

Don't touch them. Just leave as long as you can then see a good beautician to sort them. The longer you leave them the better.
