Talk to me about Whistles dresses

I've been looking at this dress online for a few weeks www.whistles.com/women/clothing/dresses/suki-floral-print-hannah-dress-22033.html. Is Whistles stuff generally well made, wash well, etc? Any thoughts on sizing, or if you'd recommend or avoid, would be really helpful. I'm a size 10-12 5'5 pear. I don't have a stockist near me unfortunately.

Thanks.

I can't get your link to work - is it this?
www.whistles.com/women/clothing/dresses/suki-floral-print-hannah-dress-22033.html?dwvar_suki-floral-print-hannah-dress-22033_color=Black%2FMulti#start=1

In all honesty, apart from their legendary (and sadly defunct) tube skirts, I don't think the quality is that great, considering their prices. However I think there's something about the way their clothes are cut that's quite clever. Their stuff hangs really nicely on me. I'm also a sucker for that laid back cool look and I think they do that very well. So I'm a fan but only when there's an offer or a sale on and I wash carefully e.g. on 'delicate' and inside a pillow case.

I'm a size 8-10 and somewhere between hourglass and pear shape and I would say they're normally true to size.

Yes that's the one! Thank you, that's so helpful to hear. It seemed a lot of money for the fabric, but I do like the look of the dress and it's encouraging to hear they hang well. I'll keep my eyes out for a code. That dress is carried by a few dept stores online (but none near me grrr).

Have you tried John Lewis, they generally stock Whistles and have a good delivery/return service.

I have a couple of bodycon-ish, rather fitted, dresses from Whistles - jersey ones and silk ones. They fit me well (curvy size 12 / 14), but I think that's the cut of those dresses in particular. The one you're interested in looks like one of their drapey, less fitted designs - maybe lovely on you, but I know it's look like a sack on me Sad

All my Whistles dresses have washed and worn well btw.

Good point about JL, thanks! Sounds like I need to try it on really...

I think I've seen it in our local John Lewis and it looks as if it would hang/drape really nicely. But yes, the kind of shape where you don't really now till you've tried it on.

I have the Lola dress which is very similar - it is really over-sized. I am usually a 10/12 and have the printed one in an 8 and the navy one in a 10 - the 10 is actually huge and the 8 looks better. (I'm 5ft 6 and pear-shaped.) I have quite a lot of Whistles stuff, usually bought in sales or with a code, and the odd thing my mum's treated me to - I think it works well on my shape and washes/wears well too, but I would rarely buy full price. (If you can't get it in JL, Whistles do quick delivery/returns.)

Oh that's good to know, thank you - I was wondering about sizing. Definitely sounds like need to try some sizes on so I can swoop as soon as a code appears. The Lola looks lovely too.

Whistles definitely comes up big. I'm an 8 and I often wear 4 or a 6.

I have many whistles items but feel that they're a bit hit and miss these days.

It's no better quality than high street but the cut and fabric is better.

Alas, the code (Grazia) has just been. Is it on ASOS? They often do good discounts.

Thanks everyone. Def need to schedule a daytrip to actual shops! Shame about the grazia code but I'm sure another will be along before too long :)

I love that dress but I have at least four in my wardrobe they do them every season. They are flattering but not worth full price. Be careful of the lengths some can be very short. I do like Whistles but I don't know how they get away with their prices esiecially for accessories.
