Pixi Glow Tonic: what's all the fuss?

Sparebutton · 17/11/2015 23:27

Just that really. I bought some and have been using it for the last five nights, but I haven't noticed a difference.

Should I persevere or is it not for me? (I'm 50, combination skin)

Yes, what is all the fuss?

I was in a big M&S the other day - one with a huge beauty dept. I asked the assistants if they had any and they reacted as if I had asked for hens' teeth.

They are always sold out, so they said.

Think people react differently.

My skin is noticeably smoother and brighter. Even DS asked "what's up with your face" Grin

Probably a con.

Remember baby bottom butter?

Just cooked up for a laugh by people who wanted to see if they could get it to go viral.

Possibly before "go viral" was even a thing.

I haven't tried glow tonic, but I really like the glow pads. They're stronger and I definitely see a difference. I use them roughly once a week, when I remember.

The CosRx stuff is very good. AHA Whitehead power and BHA blackhead power. You'll have to order it online though

Not doing anything that Paula's Choice hasn't been doing for ages - 10% AHA for dry skin, 2% BHA for oily and blackheads.

Plus we had a thread on it before and lots of people had reacted to it badly - it contains a load of unnecessary stuff that just irritates sensitive skin.

The glycolic content is pretty low. You might need something with more oomph, like the Glow Pads a PP mentioned.

Also I'm not sure it's actually at the right ph for the aha to work. Pixi is about ph 5 and I think glycolic needs to be lower?

I've got it and it is a nice ph adjusting toner after cleansing but that is all it is. A ph adjuster. And at 18 quid I think there are better toners on the market that can do that for less money.

If you want to use glycolic you need to use products formulated at right ph to work. Those mentioned before are.

That is correct mint. I found a great article on acid toners and pH levels and which ones worked. I think I posted it on the Amazing Faces thread somewhere. Really interesting. Neither Pixi Glow nor the Nip+Fab glycolic pads are the right pH level to work, although I do actually like the latter and find it makes some sort of difference. I tend to use stronger ones like Peter Thomas Roth or Dennis Gross in the evenings, alternating with the Bravura Calendula.

Another vote for Paula's Choice. I love her weekly treatments and even have DP using them after seeing how well they work.

I must be the odd one out. Pixi glow tonic has made a real difference to my fine lines. I've been using it for about 3 months.

wouldn't be without it now. i found out about it via the Pixi instagram and the ingredients sounded like a good combination. i don't think it can work on its own though. the site reviews mentioned Caroline Hirons and once i'd read her posts about cleansing routines i used it as part of a good routine morning and night so i'm not sure how effective it would be without it. and i can't believe i put up with such crap combination dead skin until now Confused

I think it's okay - I probably wouldn't repurchase though.

I have a bottle and working my way through it as I hate to waste - its OK nothing special, bought after a visit to the Pixi store - now the Malin and Goetz pads are amazing - to the point aged DF asked what I had done as my face looked different Grin took as compliment!! I used them every night and in about a week - skin was fresher, smoother and just better!!!

Intersting article Nabootique

Oo the Bravura Calendula looks nice. Like the glycolic and lactic acid combo. And at a decent price point (I feel another skin care purchase coming on...)

I have not tried the Pixi Glow yet, but have been looking to get some. For the peeps that use this (or other glycolic pads)? I double cleanse with a flannel every night and am thinking I might be over doing it if I use Pixi Glow/Pads too? Confused

ScandiCinnamon · 18/11/2015 11:41

Sorry, to add to the above. Should one stop exfoliating if using Pixi Glow? I exfoliate once or twice a week at the mo

Report
Nabootique · 18/11/2015 11:44

What exfoliator are you using Scandi? Pixi Glow is really quite mild so I don't think it will cause you any problems. I double cleanse, acid tone and sometimes use Oskia Micro Exfoliating Balm or the scrubby Tata Harper cleanser as well. The only time I don't acid tone is if I've used a resurfacing mask.

I've just bought my first bottle and not particularly impressed so far if I'm honest. I'm in the middle of a break out at the moment though having just finished a course of antibiotics recently so possibly not the fairest assessment. Prior to this I was using FAB pads and really liked them. Think I might go back to them next.

I quite liked it although started using as part of starting the whole .caroline Hirons routine so not sure what if any difference it made. I'm nearly at the end of the bottle so was wondering what to get next - thanks for this thread OP and for the article you linked to Nabootique.

Nabootique I use Boots No 7 Beautiful Skin Radiance Exfoliator. Actually most of my current skin care is this range... (Protect and Perfect Intense)

I bought the Pixi stuff, and I'm not sure it's making much difference. My skin has improved, but I don't know whether that's more down to my new serum and eye cream than the Pixi tonic. I only use it about every 5 days and I find my skin looks a bit red and sore the day after I use it. I do have sensitive skin so I wasn't surprised that I reacted to it.
