Heatless curls - do I need some variety of product on my hair?

Just that really. I'm going to attempt heatless curls tomorrow night but am not sure if I need anything on there or not

try it without first, or maybe just a Seasalt spray. when I had extensions, I would dampen my hair and roll into a sock bun but wouldn't use any product, just hairspray when I took the bun out

I use a bit of hair oil when i take the bun out to define the curls - just about to take mine out now- i use a mesh donut.

How do you use the donut? I was going to find something old and knackered to rip into strips to use.

I cut the toes off an old sock and roll into a doughnut. then tie a ponytail and start at the bottom of the ponytail and roll the doughnut up the hair

oooh, I just you-tubed it. I don't think my hair's long enough for a big donut. Maybe one of the smaller ones I use for dd2 though.

I tried this recently with bendy rollers from primark- the first time I had fully dry hair and dampened each piece with a bit of water before putting it in the roller. The next morning when I took them out I looked like I was wearing a barrister wig the curls were so intense! After about 10 minutes (no exaggeration) of vigorous brushing they were tamed into 50s style curls.
The second time I washed my hair, dried it but left it slightly damp and then added rollers and went to bed. The second time was a disaster as my hair still wasn't fully dry in the morning so the curls pretty much just fell out.

I personally have incredibly straight hair which will just about hold a curl from a curling wand and heated rollers have absolutely no effect whatsoever (even when adding setting lotion).

There are lots of youtube tutorials that I find helpful, not sure what style you're going for but I look at A Vintage Vanity.

I'm not entirely sure what look I'm after tbh - just curls and we'll see how they go for starters

The bendy rollers are fab and not too uncomfortable to sleep in, and they're a pound a pack! They do 2 sizes, normal and jumbo. I have normal and use about 20 altogether. I think jumbo would give looser more relaxed curls and I keep meaning to go back and buy some so I can try them.

I'd recommend using a hairnet (I use an old pair of tights with the legs tied in a bow on top) to keep them in place and stop them from falling out). My DH thinks I look so sexy as you can imagine

Right...I am armed with bendy rollers & have watched several tutorials...fingers crossed for half decent results in the morning. Then I can battle with the pretty headband I bought.

I only got 16 curlers though, think I might have needed more.

Good idea! I will try that tomorrow night now - I've had three attempts to get this far

My dad'll be off somewhere with a Primark over the next few days, I'll ask him to pick me another pack of these up too.

Some of it is also still damp so will invest in another pack and try again, maybe it'll look better done in smaller sections.

Dd2 has pinched the rollers to play camp fires so at least they'll get some use until my hair grows

Yes they can definitely drop with brushing or just over time. When I tried them they must've halved the length of my hair but with a lot of brushing I tamed them in to lovely curls. If you try brushing them out then don't panic at the initial frizz, it dies down eventually

I am a ball of frizz . Worse than dd2's usual ball of curly fuzz

Have hidden the worst of it under a headscarf and am very greatful for the fact that there is a spare bottle of milk in the fridge today so I can avoid the shop

Haha! I guarantee if you brush with a paddle type brush for what feels like a lifetime thet will eventually calm down. I promise

The blogs Landgirl1980 and Diary Of A Vintage Girl have the best "brushing out" tutorials.
With a cold set you almost always have to brush out! People think it's gone wrong but it hasn't.

Ah, I will try again after the wedding then when my hair's a bit longer. I made a very fetching fraggle for the day yesterday & can't face going out like that (busy week) if they don't go right
