Are expensive eyeliners better?

My search for a good eyeliner that doesn't end up under my eyes or isn't really hard to apply ( that is rock hard) continues. I am looking at pencils.
Am I going to have to pay more than high street prices?
I have a Charlotte Tilbury eyeliner that was pretty expensive but is the worst I have ever used in terms of smudging. May as well just draw all over my face and be done with it.
Are the likes of channel and YSl better, like their lippies are better?

No. Get yourself some avon glimmersticks. Never Need sharpening and stay put all day. Even better over eye primer.
One tip for it staying put is to use an eye cream that's completely absorbed before applying eye makeup. Any hint of grease and liner will slide.

I have two eyeliners atm, a body shop felt tip pen one (cheapish) and a Nars pencil (expensive). Neither of them smudge. The Nars one literally stays on forever, but its a twist up one so not pointy enough for doing winged liner.

I've spent the last couple of years 'down - branding' IYSWIM and tried some of the cheaper eyeliners as part of the experiment. But have only repurchased one - EL DW eyeliner.
All the others were halfway down my cheeks by lunchtime.
other downsizings have been more successful

I've just bought 2 of the Boots No 7 ones, because they were buy one get one half price and I also had a money off coupon. I'm impressed with them - don't usually rate their makeup except for nail varnish, so was pleasantly surprised.

They are as good as my Urban Decay and Clinique ones, although, tbf I do quite like a smudgy look.

I only use urban decay. Expensive but sooooo worth it.

I have a serious habit and have to have everything they bring out

It's expensive but it lasts ages and I wear it everyday. Dior waterproof eyeliner pencil sticks like glue. Will be reading this thread for cheaper alternatives though. But the Dior one works like a normal kohl pencil so not all cat eye flicks etc. it comes with a sharpener and rubbery smudgy bit too.

Urban Decay are amazing and glide on. I also hate the rock hard ones that drag your eyes!!

I like the MAC ones - very soft to put on but don't smudge & good choice of colours. I have grey/green eyes & their very dark green (so dark it's almost black) one called Devotion makes them actually look green!

No. My favourite eyeliner was Urban Decay 24/7 liquid in Perversion for a long time. Then I discovered Maybelline Hypersharp liner and haven't repurchased U/D since. Same thing.

Not cheap, and hard to track down in the UK, but the Kat Von D tattoo eyeliner pen is the absolute best and most bomb-proof eyeliner I have ever come across. Perfect cats' eye flicks and nothing is budging that baby. (I am the smudging queen.)

Some UD 24/7 smudge like crazy - I've gotten panda eyes from them. If you like that type of pencil Kiko do excellent cheap dupes in many colors. The only sweatproof one I have is a liquid pen from Kiko.

I use chanel one (like a pencil and you twist it up) and Bobbi brown pots.
However was away for weekend and had to duck into local pharmacy to find a replacement as I forgot my makeup. Picked up NYC liner (eye and lips ) and it is as good as he chanel.Grin
For a fraction of the price Wink.
Seriously impressed, doesn't smudge and applies easily.

Thanks all!!
Some great suggestions for me to look into. I am intrigued by the DTV.I have some urban decay 24/7 pencils. They are ok. don't smudge too badly, but the colour isn't very deep either.
Off to look up all the suggestions now!
Any more eyeliner loves please do post.I notice no one has mentioned ChannelConfused

bigbuttons - try the UD 24/7 liquid eyeliner in Perversion for deep smudge-proof black :)

Oh, just remembered I've tried the Hourglass gel pen liner at the HG counter and it doesn't budge too. But it's expensive for me. Especially since Maybelline Hypersharp works fabulous.

I have just bought a Chanel eyeliner in dark green. It ends up down by my nose within the first hour.
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner doesn't move at all.
My UD 24 hour liner also smudges.

I have several traditional Chanel eye pencils that need to be sharpened, they are fine and I enjoy using them but the colors are very subtle. The Chanel twistup pencils (stylo waterproof) are awful. They last well but they are scratchy and rock hard (I've sometimes blasted them with a hairdryer) and the pigmentation is uneven. Wouldn't recommend, they are probably my all-time least favorite makeup item.

frugal that must have been extremely annoying. That's crap of chanel! I am bidding on a Kat von D eyeliner and now going to look up glimmer stick and the maybe line hyper sharp.

Have tried loads and so far Bobbi Brown gel liner is the only one that never budges on me even in 36 degree heat (on my recent sweaty holiday)
