The lingering stench of dove gradual tan moisturiser

I put it on last night, had a shower about 2 hours later, then had another shower this morning where I scrubbed with a shower puff thing, and I can still smell the horrible fake tan smell! I think that fake tan does smell exceptionally horrible on me for some reason, but surely 2 showers should shift it?! Am I doing something wrong or what?

QueenBean Fri 05-Jun-15 17:19:26

No, it does last for aaggggeeessss

I love the smell, so maybe I'll come and sniff you <weird>

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:20:57

It smells like dirty laundry to me! Is it just the dove that lingers so long, do you happen to know?

leccybill Fri 05-Jun-15 17:21:02

Yes, that unmistakeable biscuity smell. Nothing quite like it.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:23:02

So I can either be white and fragrant or slightly orange in patches bronzed and smelly? hmm

LineRunner Fri 05-Jun-15 17:23:13

I think they all smell weird. I've tried many different brands, but always that strange scent overpowers any niceness.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Fri 05-Jun-15 17:29:11

I've never noticed a smell with the Dove one - it's the only one I've found that I can cope with!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis Fri 05-Jun-15 17:29:35

Dove is particularly grim, Garnier one is much nicer and so is palmers (but that's chocolately)

mewkins Fri 05-Jun-15 17:29:44

Dog biscuits. They all smell of dog biscuits.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:35:01

Ah right so it might be worth trying a few different ones then? Thanks everyone

CointreauVersial Fri 05-Jun-15 17:50:14

I really don't mind the smell! I know some people think it's awful, but it never bothers me.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:53:51

I think it smells really strong on me though. Maybe it doesn't smell bad on you Cointreau?

Bunbaker Fri 05-Jun-15 17:57:08

I found that the Dove one had far less of a biscuity smell than other similar products. Perhaps I have a crap sense of smell or you have a particularly sensitive sense of smell.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:57:56

And it also seems to absorb all the other smells I've tried to cover it up with, eg perfume and a strong-smelling original source body cream

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 17:59:07

I think I do have a good sense of smell, Bunbaker

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Fri 05-Jun-15 18:00:36

I have a hyper-sensitive sense of smell (detest the smell of normal Dove stuff) but this one is fine for me.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 18:02:30

It must be my skin chemistry or something. It smells really horrible. I forgot I'd put it on and walked into my living room and thought it smelt dirty in there and wondered why, then realised it was the smell of me

Greengardenpixie Fri 05-Jun-15 18:21:16

i could still smell it after two showers!

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 18:23:54

Same here Green. I'm hoping to get rid of it later after a 3rd shower.

BeeBawBabbity Fri 05-Jun-15 21:01:27

They all smell on me, but I find the garnier one the worst. I can bear it though.

TheCowThatLaughs Fri 05-Jun-15 21:11:09

I know what you mean. It's not unbearable for me either. I'd like to smell nice though, ideally.

stripytees Fri 05-Jun-15 21:37:22

The smell is from your skin reacting to the tanning ingredients in the product, all self tans cause the smell but some try to cover it more with fragrance.

QueenBean Fri 05-Jun-15 21:52:42

The Garnier summer body mostly smells of apricots, not so much the biscuity smell I find

Coastingit Fri 05-Jun-15 21:57:49

I like the smell! Biscuits is hardly the worst thing to be smelling of.

Smelly and doesn't last
