Coconut oil

I bought this from Holland & Barrett today because it was on special offer www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/perfectly-pure-pure-coconut-oil-60022864?c=coconut oil

Am planning on using it on my hair and face. Anyone tried coconut oil for spots and found it worked? So much conflicting information online.

Don't use it on your face - it's a major pore-blocker.

I use it on my face but I'm not spotty I'm dry.

I use it to cleanse, then wash it off. I use as a body moisturiser. Never used on spots.

I have been using it on my legs which are now covered in painful boils. So I would not recommend for skin!

I use it on my hair and it has cleared my psorasis. Although you need to put the shampoo on before the water and then condition. It leaves my hair in really good condition.
I use it on my skin occasionally - I usually use rose hip oil. I dont have a problem and my skin is very sensitive
I also use it instead of shaving cream on my legs

I use it on my dogs noses and pads.

No way for spots - it's a major cause of acne if used on the skin.

If you have spots, your skin doesn't want more oil Confused

I use it as a weekly treatment on my hair, I use about two tablespoonfuls, quite a lot, and apply from scalp to tips. I tie it back and cover my pillow in a towel. I just shampoo twice in the morning and then condition. It leaves my hair feeling thicker and stronger. Not shiner immediately but better condition.

Wouldn't use on my skin - I've read often on here that it's pore clogging.

Not on your face. I used it as lip balm and got spots on the edges of my lips. Fine on my body though and I wear a shower cap (sexy) if in my hair to stop contact with face.

It's doing my nails the world of good, better than any other nail oil or Vaseline. I have weak thin nails and since using I have not had a breakage. (I'm in for mega breakage now I've tempted fate)

I have been using it as a cleanser for years. I have very good skin for 40. I wouldn't use anything else.

I make my own skin cream and it's one of my key ingredients.

I don't have spots.

Use it on legs in the shower when shaving - really close shave means I get an extra day of smooth legs!

When you use coconut oil as a cleanser then moisturise after
I find it helps my combination skin.
Coconut oil can be used on spot prone skin as it fools the skin into producing more oil, so that stops build up of sebum.

Its weird because it initially helped with my eczema, but now I get these painful spots every time I use it!

its great for scars - had one completely disappear in some months! but it was a light cut in the kitchen

It has cleared the horrendous eczema on my legs, but not on my hands. Ironic really, given that I apply it with my hands!

My friend advised I try it on my hair but I must have done something wrong because I just looked like I hadn't washed my hair for a fortnight.

Honestly though, it transformed my legs from a scaly bleeding mess to baby smooth in about three weeks when nothing else had worked.

Don't think I'd fancy it on my face, as I'm prone to spots, and anything oily just exacerbates that.

OP I can't help with whether or not it does anything to spots but I've started using it as a cleanser (wiping off with a warm, wet flannel) - idea heard about on MN actually - and wish I'd discovered coconut oil for this use years ago. It removes every single scrap of make up, in one go.

So how do you use it as a cleanser? Apply to face, by itself, or with water? And then wipe of with a warm face cloth?

Report
Flyinggeese21 · 07/06/2015 11:13

FeijoaSundae I massage it in without water (it's solid in the pot but melts to oil as soon as very slightly warmed up), inc. over eye make up - just all over, then wipe off with a warm, wet, face flannel. Really good!

So, if you have dehydrated skin would the coconut oil help, or make it worse? I've used it on my hair and it made a load of difference.

Dehydrated = lacking in water so no. Dry = lacking in oil so yes, as long as it doesn't turn out to be an acne trigger for you.

I use it as a cleanser - small amount then wash off with a hot flannel. Hasn't caused breakouts and I've been doing this for a year.

I also apply it as a treatment for my hair. I massage it into the hair length and then leave in overnight (put a towel on your pillow!) Make sure you rinse out really well. Makes my hair look fab.

Flyinggeese21 · 07/06/2015 13:43

TheRose is it easy to wash out with shampoo? Fancy trying that.
