Are ripped jeans a thing again now?

I've been into town a couple of times this week and I've suddenly noticed loads of girls with ripped jeans on. They just seem to have straight slashes from seam to seam across both knees. Mostly worn by late teens to twenties but I also saw several women wearing them who were definitely old enough to have worn them the last time around (and maybe the time before that!)

They've been pretty popular for the last couple of years. I wear them and am over 40.

Yes.

Old enough to wear them last time round?

I'm 27 and wore them last time round. Does my great age offend you? Pray tell, what should I wear so I don't look silly in the latest fashions. What with them only being appropriate for young'uns.

I'll get my coat...

I have noticed them around for a while but the pair I saw today were totally ludicrous - literally big round holes so her entire knee caps were showing Shock. The phrase WTAF came to mind.

Woah calm down! I only meant that some trends tend to be only worn by teens such as the onesie in big groups round the shops from last year, and at first I assumed this was the case with the ripped jeans, but then saw some older women wearing them so asked my question. Maybe I'll stick with chat next time I did't realise I'd strayed into AIBU territory.

Take no notice OP, yes they are a thing at the moment. I recently bought a black pair slashed at both knees, I'm 40 and to be honest I did feel a bit of a dick in them so have only worn them once.

Yes. Convenient for me actually as my beloved pair of cords were beginning to wear away. Then I fell off my bike and the knee went. I can still carry on wearing them under the distressed guise! Although when nearly the whole leg is ripped open to reveal fake tanned leg it is a bit much.

I don't really get the current ripped jeans look. I've seen lots where otherwise quite smart jeans- skinny, dark colours with no fading- are ripped. They don't look as though they have worn naturally to that state, they look like new black jeans with rips in them. Is that the whole point? Stupid theyoungpeople, doing fashion wrong again.

Ha! I don't think ripped jeans or anything is/are on the same level as a day onesie that's worn in public... Grin

I've just ordered a black pair from Topshop to try... I'm 38 so should probably know better!

Yes. Very popular amongst dd and friends.

The skinny high waisted ones with the straight slash at the knee are probably Topshop Joni jeans which are everywhere.

I like generally distressed jeans rather than the current fashion for black jeans with a single rip at the knee. In my experience that rip will get bigger and bigger until it's like Zippy - not a good look.

Good mid blue denim skinnies with distressing all over paired with classic other items is my favourite perennial look. Navy merino in winter, white cotton in summer - done.

I've seen quite a few young girls in skinnies with the knees slashed.
Won't be wearing them myself but I can't wear skinnies anyway.

You can buy Top Shop Joni jeans with the rips already in place. So, a thing.

Won't be doing it myself as I don't wear jeans much anyway.

Saw some lovely jeans in the gap sale nice and soft then I noticed the gaping holes Grin Not for me unless I keep jeans till they are threadbare.

Yup - was a bit Hmm when my DD bought the Joni high waisted black ripped jeans but she looks good in these. I wouldn't wear these though.

Ok for teens (I wore them when I was one). I wouldn't wear them now.

I wore them when I was 15, 501s with a huge rip exposing my bum cheeks.

I haven't worn them since . I don't really like that look.
