'Dad jeans' just NO ,men

These are the jeans beloved of TOp gear presenters and many many men. Shapeless and serve no realy purpose apart from to cover flesh.
They don't flatter a shapely bum or focus on a firm thigh, and are often worn sans belt

MEN - bin the dad jeans

I don't think men over 40/45 should wear jeans really. It seldom does them any favours.

Chinos are more flattering if a guy's shape is not the best.

My DH doesnt wear clothes to flatter so other people can look and approve. He wears them to stop everyone having to look at his bollocks.

Nocomet · 16/03/2014 17:26

DH would be happy to bear that he's refused to wear jeans his entire life and now he can claim to be too old.

Fair enough, Coco. When I look round, a lot of men seem to feel the same as your DH...

I don't think DH has ever bought an item of clothing with flattering his bum in mind.

Dh used to wear baggy shapeless jeans which made him look...well baggy and shapeless. And he's a 34 waist so not huge.
He now wears slim leg jeans and looks a bit more contemporary. He's 55.

I think most jeans are pretty hideous unless they are dark denim and cut relatively straight - and that goes for men and women (but then I'm not particularly worried about fashion).

Having said that, dh (who is an ultra trendy mid twenties indie rock so and so) wears black skinny primark women's jeans (as they are the tightest he can get them, he actually asked another bloke where his jeans came from and turns out a lot of indie men wear these!) and I think he looks very sexy... In an all American rejects lead singer kind of way.

Guess it depends on the man and the jeans!

Wot about older women in jeans! My OH wears jeans and that's fine with me. I wear jeans too and they don't look as good as they did when I was younger but who cares anyway?

Hassled really?

My DH looks amazing in a pair of diesels and a Fred Perry with his DMs.

He his hawt stuff and the wrong side of 40.

I was top to toe in topshop today. We are not mutton dressed as lamb however I do agree with the op that JC style jeans are the boke.

Skinny jeans on men are awful!! (Imo, but I am old so just don't get it).

Also Shock at men over 40 shouldn't wear jeans!

As with women, different styles suit different shapes on men - but YES to banning the Jeremy Clarkson Jean.

Young age doesn't always equal style.

Some people (of any age) just don't know how to dress casual. I work in an IT Department and Dress Down Friday is all the proof you need.

!

Dh would kill me if I posted a photo on here... He does get quite a bit of female attention though. Which I find amusing as it's usually girls in their late teens - and I am 33 and a size 14-16 and not indie rock looking at all! They say opposites attract. ...!

I get what you mean about maybe I'm only saying dark denim as it's fashionable but I genuinely think dark denim is much more flattering than bleached or lighter denim. It hides a multitude of sins and so I'm glad it is in fashion as a side point!

I think men over 40 look fine in jeans. It's how they wear them... Black suit shoes and jeans pulled up aka Simon Cowell is never a good look.
