Hey girls,
I have really curly hair that is dry and prone to frizz. I've tried lots of different serums and mousses but none seem to work can any of you help? Getting sick of wasting money on things that never do anything

HELP!

Thanks :)

Tresemme Naturals conditioner, with Boots pink own brand curl crème over the top. Both applied to soaking wet hair, then wrap in towel for 10-15 min. Then unwrap, touch as little as possible, leave to air dry. Mine takes approx 10 hours! That's what works for me - I haven't got time for loads of faffing either. Avoid products with silicone in

Similar advice to lottapianos. I have tried all sorts of more expensive products (redken, tigi...) but keep coming back to tresemme naturals conditioner and boots curl creme. My methods are a bit different though - I rinse the conditioner out, then apply boots pink curl creme to wet hair and put a gel over the top for extra hold. Umberto giannini curl friends jelly is popular, but I like the vo5 extreme hold gel too. I don't wrap in a towel as this tends to make my hair frizz. I just let it air dry (takes around 3 hours for me) or if I'm desperate for time I will use a diffuser attachment on the hairdryer to dry part of the way. Once dry, if my hair is still a bit "crunchy" I run my hands over it and shake around to get rid of the crunch. This leaves me with nicely defined ringlets.
In terms of labour, it's only a couple minutes work so should fit nicely into your schedule. Only problem is how long it takes to dry!
The products suggested are really cheap too (boots curl creme costs £1.69!!!) so can't hurt to experiment

I have natural curly hair and so does my daughter, we wash, condition, towel dry and add a serum cream to the ends, embrace those curls :)

Watching with interest. Has anyone tried plopping overnight?

Zen, I've started plopping my dd hair but not overnight for about 45 mins then when she is going to bed I put a pineapple in her hair and it works fabby

Thanks! I am worried I will wake up looking like a cavewoman.

I will give it a try when I wake up and see what it is like by the time I leave for the school run.

I am also super-busy with 4 young kids so while I love having curly hair it is hard to spend the time looking after it properly so it isn't dry.

jj, I heard you should try brushing it out every night to get the natural oils to spread and when you wash it, comb through the conditioner and leave it in as long as you can. Curly hair gets really dry so it is all about keeping it in the best condition you can.

Honestly my dd used to wake up looking like the wild woman of wongo but since pineappling her hair at night has made a huge difference to our morning routine, all she has to do is shake her hair and she's ready to go

Forgive me for hijacking, what's plopping & pineappling? My dsd has very curly hair that can be a nightmare to brush because it tangles so much. We use a leave in conditioner when we brush & I've started using a hair oil on it after it's washed & it's better but I'd be interested to hear of other techniques to try.

only brush it when it's wet and has a handful of conditioner in it, air dry it.

OP - is there a TK Maxx near you? they often have ultra high end brands in there that are superb on curly hair - Matrix Biolage and Frederick Fekkai (we're talking in the realms of £25 bottles of shampoo normally). they're bloody BRILLIANT.

Watching with interest.

My hair is a damaged, frizzy, postnatal mess.

Tried all sorts with little success.

Germ plopping is done after hair is washed and conditioned (you need to google to show you how it's done) but it's basically wrapping washed hair in a cotton long sleeved top or that's what I use and it prevents frizz

And pineappling is using a scrunchie and tying round a high pony tail as loosely as possible when going to bed and lying the pony tail up the pillow so not lying on it

Both have made a huge difference to my dd hair Smile

Ooh Skivvy, thank you. I'll have a look. At the moment we plait dsd's hair in bed in an attempt to stop it tangling too much. But she complains that it's 'hard' & uncomfortable. I'll definitely try plopping & pineappling! :)

Glad you asked Germgirl I was eying up the large pineapple in my kitchen Grin

Would these help with wavy hair?

Report
Skivvywoman · 05/03/2014 13:24

Yeah would work on wavy hair my dd has got really curly hair underneath and on top it's more a wave but now it's a really nice soft curl on top

I also don't wash her hair with sulphate shampoo and conditioner I use the body shop rain forest products and now I don't even need to use product on her hair Smile
