My Converse hurt!

I finally gave in a few weeks ago and bought some Converse dance, after needing some practical, and comfortable shoes to wear with jeans for general day to day use.

The trouble is, they're not comfortable as they rub my heels and I have to wear a plaster with them where they rub! I'm between sizes and bought the size up so they're not too small (although seem to be a small fitting). I honestly have 5 inch heels that are more comfortable.

I really want to wear them but keep putting on my ancient, nasty old white trainers instead to avoid the rub.

So does anyone have any ideas of how I can make them more comfortable or do I concede defeat and leave them at the back of the shoe cupboard?

You can buy gel heel guards in boots or similar though I don't know if they would work in converse as I couldn't see the link. (btw the title made me laugh as it sounded like it was the shoes that were in pain not your feet :o)

I feel your pain! I have just broke mine in - it took a while though. Perhaps wear them round the house with socks on for a bit.

I've tried gel heel things for heels before when they slip off but not sure it will work for converse, I'll have a browse in Boots and see what options there are these days.

I'll keep wearing them and won't give up yet!

I gave in too and bought some a few months ago. Last week I gave up and bought another pair of good old faithful, comfortable Skechers.

The Converse were agony! They didn't rub too badly (one pair of Converse I tried on were rubbing my heel raw just walking across the shop to the mirror!) but they are just so flat that my feet ache after wearing them for an hour. Would never have been able to wear them without socks either, as they would definitely rub then.

I have no idea why they're so popular, unless they are comfy for people who have different shaped feet to mine?

I'm sticking with Skechers from now on.

beat the shit wear at the heal with your hands, massage it, basically soften it up as much as you can. I washed mine and then abused the heal a bit. Its just canvas, it'll soften ok. I have to do similar when I get Vans, it something about how they stengthen the canvas or whatever. if the back is fitting ok on your heal that should help.

They do hurt to start with, you just need to break them in.

my dd lives in her converse, but her older pair suddenly started rubbing after about 3 months!

she has insisted on another pair though, they look lovely, and i have toyed with getting some but if they hurt i am well past the gritting teeth and wearing regardless...

Yeah, I've had a nightmare with some pumps. Some Adidas gazelles were the worst - though I had them in another colour, same size which were fine. One pair I could just never break in.

I got some very cheap pumps from Sainsbury's though and they are very comfy.

Converse one stars took a while to break in - all leather & quite "hard" at first. All stars I found comfy from the start.

I bought some lovely Converse All Star from TKMaxx for £12.99. Unfortunately later that day I had to spend another £12.99 at Priceless Shoes as my converse had rubbed so many blisters that I had to walk across town barefooted as I couldn't bear to pull them on again! About a week on I still have about 5 blisters per foot, even through blister plasters, and I'm starting to wonder how long I press on for before giving in and giving up!

So relieved to see it wasn't just divine retribution for my penny-pinching ways!

Oooo these are beautiful! I lived in converse for about the past two years and never had any problems wearing them for 9+ hours a day, but i've had my current pair about 4 months and they've just started to rub my toes! I'm going to try another pair though because i'm obssessed I love them.

I find converse incredibly narrow fitting and uncomfy. I don't have wide feet.

Best thing ever when breaking shows in is, instead of using piddling wee plasters, is to use a panty liner. It covers much more of your foot and sticks like shit to a blanket.

Might be best to wear socks though

Rub vaseline onto your shoes to soften them up.

I did wear them today, with socks and plasters and they weren't too bad. Still not the comfy shoes I had wanted when I bought them but I will try to soften up the heels so thanks for all of the tips!

Wear twin skin socks, designed for running and walking. The two layers rub against each other rather than your skin.

I had to send mine back as they were so painful. Got superga trainers instead and they haven't rubbed at all as think they are slightly wider fitting. Nothing worse than painful shoes.

Oh!! I had exactly the same problem!

I wore them for about a week with plasters on (and spare ones on my person) and that worked.

I also tried to soften the backs by rolling them IYKWIM!

Given up on Converse a long time ago. They look cool but very uncomfortable for my gentle age of 40ish

I had the same with All Stars but went for the Lo's in a 7 (really am a 6.5) and they are super comfy.
My DM inherited the All Stars and wore them with no problems until they fell apart!

I find converse shoes flat and hard that to just can't wear them. I am always amazed when people say how comfy they are as I find them like walking on two wooden planks. I guess we all have different feet though
