Hair products for curly hair on a budget

After years of spending a fortune on shampoo and conditioner it's time to rein in my spending in general. I'm having trouble justifying the £10 I spend on Umberto Giannini shampoo and conditioner fairly frequently as I have long curly hair and wash it frequently. If you have curly hair and don't spend a fortune what products do you use?

I am lazy low maintenance and let my hair dry naturally after just putting some gel through it. I haven't tried the curly girl method and I'm not sure it's for me but could be convinced.

I use tresemme. It's about £5 a bottle but the bottles are HUGE

Tresemme here too, and you usually find them on offer in Tesco or Superdrug. I also use Frizzeze serum which lasts a while.

i don't worry about the shampoo, but i do use a bloody good conditioner. At the moment I use Lush American cream which although £13 for a big bottle I don't need to use a lot of and it lasts me ages.
I use umberto giannini curly girls gel and buy it when boots have it on offer. I also know that boots curling cream is cheep and very good.

As an experiment I tried a travel bottle of tresemme and it seemed to be ok but my hair felt unnaturally smooth Which one do you use? I couldn't decide yesterday which one would be best for curly hair as I'm used to having the bottle spell it out to me

Tresemme is on offer in Tescos at the moment, two bottles for £6 (which may have caught my eye!)

I normally stock up on Umberto Giannini when it's on offer but I go through it (particularly the conditioner) at a ridiculous rate.

honestly try the lush one. it doesn't soak in so much as other conditioners and you can get smaller bottles to test. really really creamy and smells like heaven!

Oh and I bought Superdrug's Curl Defining Creme the other day, it was about £2 and it's brilliant, just as good as the John Frieda one.

I tend to alternate between the Garnier Fruits thing and Tresemme, as I find that they stop being so effective after a while. I also use frizz ease, and it lasts me an age as I use if so sparingly. I could never the curly girl method. I am shuddering just thinking of it.

at the moment I'm using loreal for curly frizzy hair, was on offer, seems ok. I also like to use a brand called Gliss they sell at superdrug. Whatever shampoo or conditioner I use and I chop and change a lot as to what's on offer, I always use "Parachute" purified coconut oil infused with jasmine from India, I discovered it when I spent some time there, a bottle lasts forever, I bought a few bottles last time I was over there and I'm on my last one now! I think you can buy it here in Asian shops. After washing I put about 10 drops in my hands and work it through the hair, it's much better than the frizz-ease stuff I used to use! It calms the frizz, but although it's oil it doesn't make the hair greasy.

sorry, but have to respond to this re curly girl method.... "you basically don't wash your hair".... that is absolutely NOT true.... you DO wash it, just not with normal shampoo!! I tried it and it it didn't really work for me, but would never have given it a go if it means not washing hair, that would be just pure skanky. Don't want OP to be put off.... even though it wasn't for me entirely, I still use elements of the regime that worked for me.

Well in the one I read, it said you just condition it and you use no shampoo whatsoever.

no shampoo, you 'wash' your scalp with conditioner. It is still washing.

i use cherly cole then beyonce... the cheryl cole shampoo and conditioner is it loreal? that one and then loreal hot straight to straighten or hot curl ran thru it and left

tresseme kills my hair same with aussie products, they dry it out no end, loreal is the brand that works best for me. my curls sit really nice with hot curl whether i let them set naturally or shoot them with the hair dryer

I found Sainsburys Phil Smith (?) curl cream in a pink tube is really good for adding body to curls; it's often half price on offer. I mix it with Bumble & Bumble fine hair curl creme (expensive, but the only curl enhancer that I've ever found that doesn't weigh my hair down, and it lasts ages).
