Thin but super warm tops?

I'm breastfeeding and hate think clothes/ lots of layers between me and the baby, but it's getting cold!! What can I buy to keep me really warm (nipples painful when they get cold!!! )

Plus I am so big up top that my coats only fasten at the bottom half - don't know whether to buy a new coat when my boobs'll probably shrink again...

M&S do a very thin silk mix long sleeved thermal vest? I'ive had some for a few years and they've worn and washed well

Icebreakers base layer is fantastic - and really stretchy - it's like a fancy long-sleeved thermal vest. You can buy them in outdoor shops .

Uniqlo sizing about right - I am a 14/36D and a L in Uniqlo tops.

A new Uniqlo store has just opened at Bluewater, which is near where I live, and I have just bought myself a Heat Tech top. It is lovely, and very warm.
Will be wearing to watch DS play rugby soon.

Silk thermal underwear is good but I don't know where you get it from. It is common on the continent.

Don't think they have the kind of thing I'm thinking of in M&S - just did your search. The kind I mean is a sort of woven silk fabric, 100% silk thermal underwear. Would be interested to know if anyone knows what I'm on about.

Sadly I never found 100% silk when I looked a couple of years ago but the M&S stuff is fantastically warm compared to the others I've tried and the tops are very long so no back draft when tucked into your trousers

Cambridge Baby (yes I know!) have a couple of lovely merino/silk tops that I am sorely tempted by...

I like the M&S silk thermal range too, I buyt the ones by Autograph.
Is very slim fitting, thin,soft fabric and looks good too.

My children have the cambridge baby merino/silk vests and they are so warm!

I bought some silk long-sleeved tops from silk road and they are very good but if you can wear merino (I can't) that would be better.

Will look at Pannacotta's M&S stuff too.

btw I didn't find heattech that good - I thought they would be the answer to my prayers but they make me itch (synthetic) and I don't find them THAT warm.

Well, the M&s ones have something like 15% silk, whereas the ones I bought are 100% I think.

Depends whether you want/need that.

Wool will always be a bit more expensive but worth it I guess in warmth terms.

I find the M&S ones nice as they dont itch or irritate my skin (which is quite senstive).
Am sure they arent the warmest but I dont like too warm underlayers as it makes me too hot, esp if out shopping or doing the school run.
