DFS has asked us to find 12 Mumsnetters to attend an exclusive event on 19th July in Marylebone, London where they’ll be matched to a sofa by a DFS expert.

See more information from DFS about the event here: “Match Made at DFS is an opportunity for Mumsnet members to be a part of our most exciting Summer activity ever. If you’re selected to come to our exclusive London event, you’ll not only be matched to your perfect sofa by a DFS expert (and receive a hefty 50% discount to boot), but also be one of the stars of our online videos. Plus one lucky Mumsnetter will win the chance to take home their chosen sofa for free. All attendees will also receive a £50 Love2Shop voucher for taking part. We’re going to make the process of finding your perfect sofa simple, painless and fun!”

The event will take place on Wednesday 19th July in Marylebone, London. The event will be held in two sessions - these will be 10.30am - 1.30pm and 3pm - 7pm. Travel costs will be covered by DFS, but will be capped at £50 and all attendees will receive a £50 Love2Shop voucher for attending.

Following the event, we’d like all attendees to share their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet.

Note: you will need to be happy to be filmed (and speak during the filming) at the event to attend.

Please click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

Well I went to my local DFS Stevenage and bought my 'perfect sofa'.. had nothing but phone call after phone call from them delaying the delivery of my suite ever since. The lady phone call from them, last week, they said 'they have no idea when it will be delivered now'. It was due on the 26th June, then 4th July. No we don't know and have nothing to sit on as we sold our original sofas. Not impressed and not even had as much as an apology from them Sad

Hi Justine, can you tell us whether it's ok to bring DC to the event? Also, would we be 'expected' (pressured) to commit to buying a sofa? We are in the market for one, and the discount sounds nice, but would very much depend on total price and style etc...

We ordered ours in October with guaranteed christmas delivery and given a delivery date of 12th december. They told us it wouldn't be delivered until the 20th but guaranteed it would be that day. We sold our old sofa that was collected on the 19th dec. After many phone calls the sofa eventually arrived on new years day! Yes nearly 2weeks including christmas and new years without a sofa! Will not be using them again. And definitly would not recommend to anyone!

Can I ask how they are choosing the person who gets the free sofa? Is there a draw on the day or is it based on something else? Thanks.

Will you ever do an event like this that's not in London?!

Report
leccybill · 27/06/2017 18:22

Might do this. We have a 2 year old DFS sofa but it's the most uncomfortable thing ever and the seams and cushions went misshapen after a few months. Can't wait to get rid of it. Willing to be talked into something better, they can't all be awful!

Familyof3or4 · 27/06/2017 19:59

Do you know when they'll pick who is going? Was going to choose a new sofa next week but will hold off until I know if I'm going to this or not

Actually I can think of nothing worse.

Good job it is in London, yet again, Hmm so no chance of me going anyway.

Filmed for what exactly? I wouldn't fancy appearing on some dreadful tv ad.

Fancy a new sofa though.

Leccybill I think, unfortunately, they are. DFS sofas are renowned for being cheaply and quickly made, my parents have had DFS sofas that were awful and I have DFS sofas that are awful. The quality is just shocking - the wood is flimsy, the seams fall apart after a few weeks, the zips are poor quality and break easily, the stuffing after a few months will never go back to its original state even with daily shaking out, and cushions never look right either. Would avoid!

leccybill · 28/06/2017 00:08

Yes, it was an expensive mistake. I cannot mould the cushions back into shape for love nor money! I've plumped it up with softer cushions and fleeces but it's still spongey, unyielding and horrid to lie on. I end up going to bed early just to get off it.

We had 2 Harveys cream fabric sofas previously. Deep seats and wide padded arms. We only got rid as they were filthy- should have just had them deep cleaned. Regret that to this day!

One of our sofas arrived broken, they sent someone out to 'sort' it who was rude to me in my own home, it's still not right 3 years on and we all bicker over the comfy uncreaky one 😂 I wouldn't recommend anyone buying a sofa from dfs I wouldn't even bother trying to win a free one!

No thanks. I came very close to buying from them but was fortunate not to complete the purchase. Dreadful pressured sales tactics although nobody beats oak furnitureland for sheer persistence, until you tell them to piss off following you round the store

Also, this "perfect sofa" business. It's DFuckingS, not hand made chippendale. They are what they are - cheap and cheerful mass produced furniture which meets the needs of many people at some point in their lives. Let's not try and put lipstick on a pig, eh?

Bought a DFS perfect sofa once. Never, ever again. I wouldn't have one if they were giving them away.

Bought two DFS sofas less than a year ago. I hate them, uncomfortable, zips split, and i can feel the wood through the armrests. I'm currently searching for another and happy to write off the 1K+ i spent on them.

Surprised by all the negative comments here! I've had my large lazyboy sofa for 10 years and it's still very comfortable and looks good too.
Last year one of the backrest cushions was showing signs of wear and I rang to ask for a price to recover that cushion and they did it free of charge.

Another one who hasn't had any issues with DFS... Just to add a bit of balance! Have a DFS Zinc sofa, love it, it's really comfy, looks brand new still, was delivered when they said it would be and the 4-year interest free deal made it possible to get a sofa I loved rather than settling for an cheaper one. Would happily buy from them again!

Hi all, thanks for your questions about the event, some answers can be found below Smile

@Nightfall1983 - DFS is advising that attendees try and arrange childcare for the day, however they appreciate that this may not be possible for all attendees, so they'll do their best to accommodate this request.

@Wiifitmama - all Mumsnet attendees will have their name and sofa choice entered into a prize draw. The winner will be chosen on Wednesday 19th July, after all attendees have been through the "match-making" process at the event. The winner will be announced on Thursday 20th July via the thread.

@Familyof3or4 - the deadline for applying is Sunday 9th July and the selected Mumsnetters will be contacted no later than Wednesday 12th July.

@originalbiglymavis - at the event DFS is filming a documentary style short video which will be primarily used on DFS' website and social media channels. The focus of the video is to follow the process of how Mumsnetters found their selected sofa.

Hi @Nightfall1983 - we've realised that we accidentally didn't fully answer your question - apologies about this! We've received the following response from DFS on this query "There is no pressure to purchase a sofa at the event, and no expectation to make a decision on the day. Anyone interested in purchasing a sofa will be given 50% off their chosen sofa. This discount will be valid for 30 days, to be redeemed at any DFS store, online or over the phone."

I am surprised at the negativity too. Considering my gaggle of boys and their panache for flopping and wrestling moves I think my sofas have been good value for money. You get what you pay for....
