I am so bloody angry that yet again mn hq has let a attack on a sn poster stand.
they seem to have a very weird veiw of sn. People can post and talk about murdering a child with sn and it is allowed to stay as it is their opinion!! yet if they were talking about murdering due to race it would be gone. and if you dare to mention you have a brain damaged child you are slated.

I have had enough. I love mn and do not want to flounce. so will just stay away from posting about dd.

Did they talk about murdering a child, or was it about abortion? Because I know some people equate the two but they are not the same.

Report
TotalChaos · 26/07/2008 10:05

edam - it was in a thread about abortion, a poster was proposing euthanasia.

I am very very cross you feel like this 2shoes.

Report
TotalChaos · 26/07/2008 10:10

euthanasia with regard to some children with special needs. So yes, definitely murder.

Dynamicnanny · 26/07/2008 11:52

2shoes - I can see why you're angry - I don't deal with children with SN on a daily basis but still find anything said about it saddening such as the post above - the world would be in uproar if people spoke about ""normal"" children like that -

Report
2shoes · 26/07/2008 11:54

it wasn't about abortion, i have no veiws on that(well not public ones)
I am not upset or leaving mn. just feel so angry that mn hq allowed a personal attack against a sn poster.
the poster in question is going through a very rough time yet they have to put up with shit like that.

What thread was this?

aww 2shoes please dont go - i understand that you are really upset and quite rightly too... but please stay and chat here.

ah, it's ok. I found it.

Very offensive. Only question is, is it better to delete such things and pretend we never read them, or is it better to challenge them and let them be read by everyone, and people may be informed and educated. Deleting offensive posts doesn't mean they didn't happen, doesn't erase them from our memories, doesn't mean such views aren't held, it only means that they can't be read by people who might be better educated by reading the complete thread. You can't be changed by half an argument, iyswim.

OTOH, it is outrageous that, for example, if I posted that black/asian/other ethnicity children are running rings round the teachers and disrupting other kids education, or if I said that black/asian/other ethnicity are not really disadvantaged in any way, they just pretend to be to get their own way - my post would be deleted, yet the same thing can be said about disabled children and it falls under the posters 'right to express their opinion' So why don't they have the right to express such opinions about black/asian/other ethnicity kids?

It just seems like people can say whatever the hell they like about disabled children - like disabled children don't matter, it isn't possible to be offensive because our kids don't count.

But like I say, the other part of me thinks that only by letting such ignorance stand and be exposed, can things change.

Hecate - I'm nt sure that such opinions about children of various races wouldnecessarily be deleted automatically - for the same reasons you cite about views, challenge etc.

I remember a thread called 'Muslims - No!' ages ago full of dreadfaul stuff and MN let it stand becuas of eh standar of challeng and oposing views.

Wheere is the thead that has upset you 2Shoes?

Is it in SN???

Don't boycott SN because of a thread elsewhere!!

I missed this!

Don't go, 2shoes.

How shocking and sad, that people think a life with SN isn't worth living - who gets to decide that other than the person in question?

Report
2shoes · 26/07/2008 13:01

I am not leaving/flouncing just will not be posting about dd being disabled anymore(apart from in passing/ normal stuff)and if I don't post abot her being disabled then no real reason to be on the sn topic.

Heacate you make good points. but why should we have to educate.
mn hq don't back us. so why bother. people like purits will still post their vile stuff and it will be classed as just an opinion
and allowed to stand.
ds said I should start a racist thread to see how long it would take to be deleted. but I can't as I believe we are all equal.

where is this thread?

it's not the first, as you know.

i mean, gees, we get one all the time.

just look at that one a week or so ago about the lady with Huntington's Disease - not even SN, but a degenerative genetic disease that is going to kill her.

I have just read the thread i feel ver and .

what an awful attitude to have.

I hope Riven is ok, no one should have to put up with that sort of attitude.

very

Hecate · 26/07/2008 14:28

why should we have to educate?

Because it is in our interests for people to be educated.

And because if we don't, I promise you no fucker else will ever give a shit - and who suffers then? WE do.

So we try or we try or we lose and the rest of the world carries on regardless.

StarSparkle · 26/07/2008 14:59

Have just read thread too. I find some of the attitude on that thread appalling

I am not the mother of a disabled child but before having DD i worked with disabled children and adults, so have a in very slight insight in the SN area.

I find it hard to believe that from asking an valid question in hope riven would gain some feedback seemed to be turned by some into a personal bitchy attack on her.

I hope she is okay too

Report
Twiglett · 26/07/2008 15:02

If anyone speaks to Riven can you tell her I'm thinking of her please

Have just read WE thread and am appalled at some of the horrific comments on it

Report
AbbeyA · 26/07/2008 15:08

I hope that she comes back-she has disappeared which is understandable. I have no idea why some people stopped giving help on work experience and started a personal attack-it was uncalled for.
