It's like a free for all.

Anyone who posts there is considered fair game.

If you post in ibu and get jumped on then it is considered your own fault for posting in ibu.

I think it's horrible.

well it is the mumsnet version of phone ins the only point is seeing an argument

Report
zippitippitoes · 11/09/2008 11:07

exactly i agree with carmenere and there is about as much chance of mn stopping their most popular topic as there is of that show being pulled

not quite sure how it fits with mn philosophy tho but then quite a bit probably doesn't when you analyse

Dropdeadfred · 11/09/2008 11:10

why not hide it???

AMumInScotland · 11/09/2008 11:27

If we didn't have AIBU, the same people would be whinging and shouting all over the rest of MN instead. At least this way, I can hide them when I can't be bothered with them, and just look in to giggle at the zoo animals when it suits me.

Agree with AMIS - there will still be AIBU threads in chat etc and it will be harder to hide them if they are not all confined to one area.

But people, we only started a AIBU topic because of all the gazillions of threads that that popped up here, there and everywhere titled AIBU to... . In other words it's a monster of your own creation, not ours Gov.

And by grouping them together in one place at least you can hide them if you dislike them.

Blu's suggested a pop-up of a Pitchfork to act as a kind of health warning on the whole topic...

Oops - see others have already made the "At least you can hide it" argument. Well said those people!

Has anyone ever been told they were being reasonable by everyone?

Report
Cappuccino · 11/09/2008 11:49

yes

but that needs a topic of it's own

"Is my dh a complete bell-end?"

Report
Jennyusedtobepink · 11/09/2008 11:50

He may be a bell-end, but it's probably your fault somehow.

Report
Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 11:51

just because you hate something isn't really a good enough reason to get rid of it imo.

Report
bundle · 11/09/2008 11:51

capp what were you being unreasonable about?

Says MN's Mary Shelley! And let AIBU be a lesson for all would-be Frankensteins!

Hiding it doesn't fully address the issue, though, does it? As someone said the other day, it nurtures a condemnatory atmosphere which then permeates the rest of the board - where people perhapd look for a more considered, less adversarial perspective on their problems.

Could it be that OP's could lock the thread or flag up really clearly that they have agreed with the advice given? Poor PeppermintPatty was beleagured for DAYS after she had given her child a banana!!!! The pack gang thing is ugly to behold when it just goes on and on and on. Or all AIBU threads should self-destruct after two hours? they are meant to be quick vents, after all!
