Scared of asbestos in my house

I have posted about this before so if it seems familiar that's why!

Over a year ago now we had someone from an asbestos company come round to do some testing in our house. All samples came back clear of asbestos so that is not the issue.

I asked him where he had been that morning and he told me that he has been to a school where he had drilled through some asbestos insulation board. I asked him if he had worn a protective suit and he said no, he had used a drill with a vacuum on it and that was sufficient. He has also been to a house where a man had been drilling through asbestos insulation board himself and that it was all over the carpet and the carpets would need to be removed as a result. Again I asked him if he'd needed to wear protective clothing for that and he said no. I asked how he could be sure he wasn't bringing anything from that house into mine and he said "it won't jump off the ground up at me".

This is an apparently well respected asbestos firm but I have been told before that they should wear protective clothing when going into contaminated areas. I'm so scared that he has contaminated our house and so much so that the room has been shut up and we don't go in it. It's limiting out life and I keep thinking of opening it up and sorting it but I am absolutely petrified. We emailed the firm at the time for some clarity but he didn't reply.

Does anyone have any advice on this or work in the asbestos industry and therefore know whether correct protocol has been followed? I just want to use my house to it's full capacity but I don't want to harm my children's health!

Are you serious? I think you ought to see your gp as this looks to me like an abnormally over anxious response. There is no asbestos in your house.

Maybe the first step is to speak to your gp to address your anxiety. It's highly unlikely there's a problem.

Maybe hire a cleaning firm to give that room a good going over might help.

You'd hate my house, it's covered in artex that has asbestos in it. Every room and passage way bar one has it.

So are you aware it's normal/ completely safe for an asbestos inspector to go to a contaminated site and then enter another house in the same clothes?

I would speak to the company if you need reassurance. Who told you they should wear protective gear? An expert in asbestos?
You do sound extremely anxious. Have you suffered with anxiety before? See GP.

But surely if fibres have clung to his clothes they could have dropped off on the walk from the front door to the room you've closed off?

The risk is tiny, please speak to someone this is no life for your family to live.

Your issue is not the asbestos, which poses no threat to you.

Your issue is your anxiety. What does your partner say to the fact you have closed a room based on nothing but unfounded fears?

You need help dealing with this, it is extreme.

You have closed off a room for an entire year because of the possibility that there might be a microscopic amount of contamination from someone who spent a short time in your house after visiting other places? I am amazed that you ever leave the house.

The issue here is definitely your anxiety/inability to look rationally at risks.

there is no asbestos in your house and by the sounds of it this other person hasn't brought any asbestos into your house either.

there are different kinds of asbestos, some safer than others. depending on the kind of asbestos he is dealing with will depend on the safety measures he needs to take.

as others have pointed out your reaction is OTT, there is no asbestos in your house, there is very little risk to you from this persons visit.
