Bathroom - jungle or more ''fresh'' ?

We're in the process of renovating our newly bought home (first time buyers - big renovation project), and having totally redone the layout of the downstairs, we're starting to think about the upstairs. We were going to just leave in the bathroom suite and retile, but frankly it spoils the place, it's fairly new (

Jungle

Though the glassy tiles are gorgeous too

The glassy tiles are beautiful, but youre right in that it wont be very unusal (although Fired Earth is out of most peoples budget so that does limit those exact tiles).

I like the jungle theme, and the red bath, but dont like those tiles.

This is your home, so do what you prefer.

I like the jungle one, really do.

I love the glass tiles and that is just the sort of colours that I love. It doesn't have to be boring though, there are loads of colours that contrast with that nicely, We have a purple that we've accents of in a bathroom with similar tones and lime green in another, you could look for a wallpaper of fabric using that colour and see what other colours are with it.

I love those sea glass tiles, they are so so pretty.

I do like the jungle wall paper, but it is so bright! I would worry that I would tire of it, if it was a cloak room toilet then I would go for it, but if it is your main family bathroom then no.

I know it's a cliche, but I think bathrooms should be soothing, calm spaces.

Ooh I'm quite surprised about the tiles (I actually found them on another thread from a while back where everyone liked them!), I thought it'd be the wallpaper that people didn't like.

Good to know though, so thanks! Any suggestions for alternative tiles if I did go for the jungle wallpaper?

I think we will need some form of tiles as we'll have a shower over the bath (probably with the head coming from the ceiling), however just read that you can buy matt varnish for wallpaper that stops any build up of moisture (so long as it's not prolonged direct contact) so it might be an option not to tile?

Sunny we can only afford fired earth as the bathroom is so dinky that the sqm isn't too offensive! Grin

I love the jungle theme but would go for a tile in one ofthe other colours (so yellow or green/blue, not coral). You could bring out the pinky/coral colour by painting the bottom of the tub, accesories like toothbrush pots and so on.

My only thing would be is the bathroom def' light enough as it looks quite a darkish paper once the walls are covered with it? The other thing you might do is order more samples of the wallpaper so you can make a decent sized square, stick it to one wall with blu tac and see how it feels. When we were doing our bathroom I ordered a few samples in the names of different family members so I could get a chunk big enough to really see how it looked. That or a wallpaper shop locally may lend you a large swatch for a couple of days in order to make a decision.

Instead of tiles, you could wallpaper and put glass/perspex over areas which will get wet. (Ive only seen it on TV so may not work in RL!).

That red bath is lovely, and it would look great with that wallpaper.

I love that type of tile, but think they may be a bit too busy alongside the paper. It would feel like everything in the room is screaming at you. So I'd go for a fairly plain/understated tile and have the paper really stand out. With lovely chunky wooden shelves, I'd pick out the reds on that paper with bright plant pots and accessories in similar and clashing colours.

Yeah I think you're right about it being just too busy with both, one or the other would be better. I think I was just so desperate to use those tiles (contrary to popular opinion I still really love them Grin ) maybe I can find somewhere else for them instead...

Great idea sw I've ordered more A4 sample sheets so I can make up a big swatch to experiment with.

I'll look into the perspex, but wouldn't condensation build up behind? I assume you seal it somehow?

If I do go for the wallpaper; the light one or the dark?

I love it all. The glassy tiles are very beautiful. I kind of agree that I would do the wallpaper in a cloakroom but less likely in a family bathroom but I know what you mean about making a statement. I'd be reluctant to wallpaper a bathroom for water / peeling issues more than anything..... To be honest though do what you love. If it makes you smile every time you see it then do it!

what other colours do the tiles come in other colours? I love the wallpaper! i think it will look amazing. I would go for the dark one and make a real statement. copper or gold accessories would also look amazing.

I would still go for the tiles, i think the detail is only visible up close. I think red may be too much though?

I might steal this idea! I wish I was braver with wall paper. my mum (interior designer) uses it in places it wouldnt occur to me, I might just get her to design my house for me. (when I finally bloody move in).

Jungle, dark wallpaper, but not with the reddish tiles. The colour is too much, I think.

I don't like the Sea Spray tiles.

I'd have the wallpaper only on the wall behind the bath - with a glass creen to protect from splashes.

Could you put the mosiac red tiles on the floor? Though at £160 a sq.m that's an expensive floor.

One thing to consider is the labour cost of tiling. I've recently paid £50 a sq.m which includes grout and other materials, and the quality of the tiler.

bumble here's the full range: www.firedearth.com/tiles/range/arabesque/mode/grid I like colour of the ''draa'' ones too.

I'm leaning towards the darker one too, I'll try it out on the walls when the sample sheets all arrive. I think the room should be light and airy enough to handle it, it has higher than average ceilings and a big south-facing window.

Ooh, Lizzie is the glass screen sealed? Do you have a source by any chance? I thought maybe they'd be less garish on the floor, but not sure if they might get slippery.

Oh I haven't got a glass screen myself, I was only suggesting it but I was imagining a thin glass sheath over the wallpaper from floor to approx 1.6m high. It would need to be safety glass. A glazier could advise and price it up.

Love the wallpaper so much. I think in for a penny, in for a pound - go for the darker pattern. I'm also slightly wary of the red tiles - how are you planning to use them? Is it going to be a splashback or a border, or something around the bath?

If you have a shower over the bath get a moveable shower head - you can't clean or just wash your hair very easily with a fixed shower head. Off topic I know.

Do the Jungle bathroom! That wallpaper is gorgeous. But not with those tiles, sorry. Either do the tiles, or the wallpaper, not together. Together, they will be too much.

The wallpaper is gorgeous! Funnily enough, I was doing my bathroom a few months ago and was debating those exact Madagascar glass tiles and wood tile flooring, but something about it was screaming beach theme (am wondering if I put a thread on here about it?), so in the end I went for marble and flagstones but with a ,vivid colour roll top and blind, I think we probably have fairly similar taste! Definitely go jungle brights, it will be a bit different. Here's my bathroom, I think the brights work
