Exceeding all ELGs in Reception

How common is this?
Has anyone's child exceeded all ELGs in reception & how are they doing now?

Hi, my DD exceeded in all aspects except Technology in ELG's. She is doing very well and we do support her at home.

My DC1 did, she is still well above average in all areas at the end of KS1. We have supported her at home but mostly school have been great at stretching the little gang of them in the class that needed it.
DC2 is a very different child but still exceeded in more than one area.
I don't think it is that unusual...

I think it is unusual because of the categories like art, technology and PE. It would be a rare child that was exceeding in all those areas at the same time although I appreciate the bar is set reasonably low. 120 in our year group no child was exceedi in every area

DS1 did in all except art/design and pe/sport (or whatever thenl equivalent is). He's just got all level 3s in his yr 2 SATs with no extra work at home but extra given in class.

DS2 has just got meets expectations for all of his (one exceeds for vivid imagination!) and I'm just as proud as he's not 5 until tomorrow!).

So only one so far on this thread

Thanks Beadgirl! Sounds like your dd is doing great.

I'm trying to get an idea of how unusual or not this is. Was thinking for a minute there that there would be no replies.

Anyone else?

Bit slow to post there!

Thank you.

In 15 years of the Foundation Stage I've never had a child exceed in every single area

noisytoys · 12/07/2015 19:53

Again DD exceeded all areas in reception and got level 3 for all SATs and teacher assessment report at the end of year 2.

I think meeting expectations is still doing very well. Think the expectations are generally quite high for 5yr olds.

DD2 isn't meeting any of her expectations Sad

Does anyone know if national statistics are published on this topic and how to access them?

Noisytoys, is dd2 one of the younger ones? I'm sorry you're upset.

DS did except one non-academic one which I can't recall now but as he is one of the youngest it wasn't a surprise. It was something like physical coordination or similar and he was still a 4yo in a 4yo body being assessed against 5yo standards.

He then got full marks in the Y1 tests and 3s across the board in Y2 (school doesn't assess above level 3). His teachers alcohol l acknowledge that he's top of the class and that's in a pretty high-achieving class.

That said, I think there's a lot of variation in achievement and development at age 4/5 and although the scores give a useful baseline they don't describe a child's soul. A bit like how babies are born on a certain centile but find their own line (higher or lower) after a few months. I wouldn't expect a child with very high EYFS scores to be bottom of the class by age seven but s/he could well be overtaken by children scoring a mixture of expected and exceeding in the early years.

No she is October. She has autism and development delay. She's only just mastered writing and reading her name. I'm not upset, everything she achieves is great but it was a surprise when DD1 was so far advanced with everything I just assumed DD2 would follow suit but everything is a struggle for her and she finds learning so hard.

Thank you TheBakeryQueen. Very pleased with her report, especilly after the expectations changed last September. Her teacher is one of the "moderating/assessing" regional group member.

I admire your attitude Noisytoys. Your dd2 sounds like she is progressing, despite obstacles, & that's a big achievement.

Thank you Mrz, I'll have a look at your link now.

I would be interested to know actually. There were lots at our school exceeded in all but 1 or 2 but as I say none exceeded in all areas.
Still only 1 on this thread!

MrsHathaway your post makes a lot of sense. Thank you.

It does seem that that the reception report is a indicator of the ks1 results but obviously no child's future is set in stone at 5.

DC1 got all exceeded last year and as far as I know is still quite a way ahead this year (a long way ahead in one area). I'm guessing physical development will slow down as they're really not sporty!

Haven't had DC2's report yet, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't the same!

Thanks Notworkingout. I would love a percentage but don't think it's recorded or reported as far as I can tell.

OP you'll find the SATs results similarly frustrating. You can find out what proportion of children got each level, but nothing about their overall total except what you can deduce (eg since only one child got a level n we can say with confidence that no child got all n; and since the lowest proportion of k came in subject area and was 28% we can say with confidence that no more than 28% of the cohort got all k).
